10% of eligible voters needed to trigger recall.

13.2% of constituents signed the recall petition

Mordaunt launches her leadership bid by saying that messages from Johnson disappeared from her phone and she was told at the time that Boris had deleted them from his phone. This is in evidence she submitted to the Covid inquiry. Shocking that Boris may have lied.

IClaudine · 20/12/2023 08:31

Not sure how this would help her leadership bid, really? We all know Johnson is a liar. Now if she could find something to incriminate Sunak...

But still, it is great to see them fighting like rats in a sack (with apologies to rats 🐀).

DuncinToffee · 20/12/2023 09:24

Johnson lied yet again

But Keir had a beer

At least inflation is falling faster than expected

They will make hay with the inflation and hope we are stupid enough to forget about the rest of it.

BIossomtoes · 20/12/2023 09:49

They got lucky with inflation, it’s down to the Bank of England. They’ll still take the credit for it though.

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/12/2023 10:28

Inflation might be low at the moment, but it doesn't feel like it. Prices for essentials like food are still far too high.

Wages haven't kept up so people are still feeling much worse off. I wonder how much of this "low Inflation" at the moment is due to energy prices dropping in September as a quid pro quo for their record profits. These are set to rise again in January meaning inflation will start to rise again.

It's just another deceitful act from Sunaks government as far as I'm concerned.

Agree with this.

Plus many things have still gone up to count for the previous inflation rise when it was in year and prices couldn't rise. One example is leisure activities. Prices are rising in January to account for the energy price rise etc during 2023 following on from 2022. These things are usually such luxuries already for those on low income (has anyone seen the price lately of a family swim?) and with wages raising lower than inflation they become more expensive with less disposable income.

itsgettingweird · 20/12/2023 10:34

My ds swim training went up £4 a month last season.

From February it's going up 10% to £135 a month.

This is the trap Sunak has managed to set himself.
Inflation may be lower than it was, but the cost of what people need to buy is much higher than it was a few years ago, so they are going to feel worse off.
All Sunak does by insisting that inflation is down and we should feel happy about it and him, is remind people that he has no clue how normal people live.

I would love to know the answer to this...

^Baroness Charlotte Owen's can’t be discussed in the press because of a super injunction
Who instigated the super injunction - who paid for it - whose super injunction is it?^

Charlotte Kathryn Tranter Owen, Baroness Owen of Alderley Edge (born 10 May 1993), is a British life peer and former, she is the youngest recipient of a life peerage since they were introduced in the Life Peerages Act 1958.

BIossomtoes · 20/12/2023 11:03

It seems that we can expect to see petrol prices go up again soon. Given that they impact on the cost of virtually everything it seems Sunak’s failed on all five of his pledges.

newnamethanks · 20/12/2023 11:07

Well, to be frank, petrol prices only concern car owners. I only travel by air, I'm a very busy man.

The problem with inflation for the people who will be affected most is that general inflation doesn’t matter a huge amount when food inflation is so high. If food prices are still going up hugely and energy prices are still going up then you are screwed. Doesn’t matter if it’s going up less than it was.

Notonthestairs · 20/12/2023 12:13

Department of Transport announcing £235 million to improve London roads as a Network North project (ie diverted HS2 funds) seems tone deaf.

Presumably the roads are in North London🤷‍♀️

This makes me sick. It can't be discussed but it can't be something decent and above board or nobody would take out a super injunction. So something dodgy happened but just by paying for a super injunction nobody can look into it.

I don't know why I'm surprised by yet more corruption.

newnamethanks · 20/12/2023 13:10

She is now part of our legislature, paid by us. We know nothing about her. Is she Vladimir Putin's lovechild? Elvis in a new incarnation? A perfectly ordinary young woman who worked jolly hard for Bozo? At least as hard as 👑 Mone but much harder than Nadine? Who knows? None of us. It's disgraceful and shouldn't be permitted. I wonder what Nadine thinks of this one?

IClaudine · 20/12/2023 13:12

I wonder what the grubby little secret is? Could she be Johnson's daughter?

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/12/2023 13:13

I don’t think she’s Johnson’s daughter. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’d shagged her.

Mind you if we put every extra marital affair Johnson had had into the HoL we’d be going forever.

seems the most unlikely with her silence and superinjunction doesn't it Grin
Maybe Nads can tell us in her next book
