He's good looking, financially comfortable, works full time, funny, fit and healthy

But it just seems such a huge age gap

Jesus, no!

FKATondelayo · 11/12/2023 13:26

I'm 49 and I think it's gross. When I was 20s and dating men 15/20 years older than me, it was fine because 30s/40s is still relatively fit and attractive and I would never have got into a serious relationship with someone that age.

But a man in his 60s while you are only just 40? No way. I just can't imagine finding a man that age attractive plus the risk of becoming his carer in the next decade or so.

I think any more or less than 5 years is icky.

AMuser · 11/12/2023 13:26

I was late 40s dating after a divorce. I wouldn’t even consider mid 50s on. I’m 51 now and with a lovely 48 year old man. no way would I have considered a man in his late 60s - equivalent gap.

CactusMactus · 11/12/2023 13:27

Yes, if he was very rich (joking...obvs).

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 11/12/2023 13:27

Personally, no, but I wouldn't judge anyone else in this position.

Gettingbysomehow · 11/12/2023 13:27

I'm 62 and I wouldn't date a 62 year old man they are usually stuck in their ways and in a few years will need looking after.

A Freudian slip perhaps 😁

Maybe lol 😂 - seriously, they make a great couple. Both outrageously luvvies, she sings and he’s her Accompanist

User69371527 · 11/12/2023 13:28

Nope
think about life in 10 yrs time.

if he was uncommonly youthful for his age and I fancies him, possibly a short fling but not beyond that

minipie · 11/12/2023 13:28

No. Mainly the health reasons mentioned above.

But also - aren’t you at rather different life stages? He is presumably retiring soon, any kids are likely adults, whereas you still have years of work and/or childcare left… you are going to want different lives if so. Appreciate this doesn’t apply to everyone and you may actually be at similar stages despite the age gap. But statistically speaking.

BeggyMitchell · 11/12/2023 13:28

No way. Not because of the way they look because I can find myself attracted to all sorts, I've never had a type.

But because how (IME) they view women. How they value (or don't) women. How they're likely to view dating younger as something that validates them among society/their friends. It's rarely a true connection and it gives me the ick.

Loveandloveandlove · 11/12/2023 13:28

I’m 45 and 100% would not be interested. Anything over 50 is a no no for me.

minipie · 11/12/2023 13:29

Also - I would be asking myself why he isn’t looking at dating women his own age.

There isn’t a nice answer.

spacechimp79 · 11/12/2023 13:31

No way would I date somebody who was 62. I'd need to be at least 57 to even consider it. Too much of an age gap.

whatausername · 11/12/2023 13:31

Absolutely bloody not. As a PP said, "it reinforces men's entitlement."

Nannyfannybanny · 11/12/2023 13:33

62, isn't "middle aged", even 40 is pushing it. Maybe likely to live to 80, definitely NOT 124.

Nannyfannybanny · 11/12/2023 13:35

Not attractive!! Brad Pitt,Tom cruise!

27icey · 11/12/2023 13:35

I'm late 30s and my partner is in his mid-60s.
He's the best person I've ever met. Sexy, an amazing listener, high energy, fit and healthy, eats well, works out, strong libido, he's super fun and funny and the most caring person I've ever met, with amazing communication skills. Creative and imaginative too. The opposite of a victor meldrew type. He has so much enthusiasm for life. I feel so grateful to know him.
We share all the same interests too. I've never met anyone so aligned with me, and I've dated many men and had lots of relationships. I've never fancied a much much older man before, but he blew my socks off.

FKATondelayo · 11/12/2023 13:35

I've never met a man in his late 50s/60s who isn't either a) a monologuer or b) completely lacking in social chat. I don't even talk to men casually if they don't ask questions about other people or stop talking about themselves for 1 minute.

Reddog1 · 11/12/2023 13:35

Check his bank balance and echocardiogram first. You may strike lucky if the first is good, and the second is bad.

Seriously, this guy is a bit gross if he’s chasing you. 🤮 Tread carefully. If you’re the one doing the chasing it’s different I guess. Has he asked you out or do you want to ask him out?

marshmallowfinder · 11/12/2023 13:37

Yes, if there's a connection and I really liked him. Why not? You don't know unless you give it a go!

constancee · 11/12/2023 13:41

If you don't mind then it's fine.

But for myself Christ no, I wouldn't consider someone so old - eight years younger ir older is my limit.

My father would be bemused, to say the least, as that's near his age.

Neelsplace · 11/12/2023 13:46

Only if he was richer than my wildest dreams and wanted to marry , fast.

krustykittens · 11/12/2023 13:47

A friend of mine married the love of her life and had twins with him - he was nearly 30 years older than her. She was widowed in her 50s and he developed alzheimers at the same time as her mother, so she paid a heavy price for that age difference. But she has no regrets and says she would do it all over again. As a PP said, you never know how life is going to turn out, it might be you needing the care. If there is a genuine conenction there and he's not just an entitled prick who only wants to date women out of his age group, I would go for it.

Jackfrostnippingatmynose · 11/12/2023 13:47

I'm 63 and wouldn't be happy to date someone 20 years younger. Viagra might mean the sex would be good, but longer term what would you really have in common as you're at different life stages (if you want kids and he's coming up to retirement?)

My recently divorced BIL is 66 and successfully hid his health issues from his much younger OW until after she moved in with him. He needs care and she works fulltime. So she's gone from expensive fancy dinners, holidays and hotels to having to help him wipe his bum in 3 years.

BeggyMitchell · 11/12/2023 13:50

And then all of a sudden she was face-to/face with those saggy balls ⚽️ ⚽️.
