One opinion that you have that will never waver, no matter what?..

Spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It does matter.

This ^ and I will never change my mind. Standards now are so low it’s embarrassing x

Ebokebok · 03/12/2023 13:31

Yes it does and you should therefore know that you never put a coma before and 🙈

You are wrong I believe, but this is a matter of opinion; just like the presence and correctness of the Oxford comma.

Thank you. As mum of a trans dd (who incidentally is too scared to leave the house most of the time, and would be terrified to ever use the women’s toilets. And who incidentally isn’t even attracted to women and has a male partner) my heart breaks for her reading the vile hatred on here. These sad people who make it their number one priority to victimise trans people have probably never even encountered one in their lives really need to get a life. I notice they don’t seem to have the same hatred of trans men.

It’s absolutely pathetic and embarrassing seeing the seething, uninformed hatred on this site and others. I’m so sorry that your daughter is so afraid, you sound like a lovely mum!

QueenBitch666 · 03/12/2023 14:05

Animal rights
Women's rights

Carouselfish · 03/12/2023 14:06

Nothing justifies inflicting suffering on animals. Not food, not cosmetics, not medicine.

whitetip · 03/12/2023 14:06

I also do think that if someone is proven to have murdered, they should face the death penalty.

I’d say the main issue is the right to not face discrimination for simply existing! Unfortunately trans people experience discrimination, violence and of course death at disproportionate rates.

Can you provide evidence that this happens in the UK please?

MrsTopaz · 03/12/2023 14:07

One cuts, one chooses

keye · 03/12/2023 14:07

I don't have a hill to die on, at least I don't think I do. I like to think I'm flexible in my mindset and open to learning and happy to change my opinions if I become better educated.

The grammar one in particular, as a hill to die on, is very closed minded and really quite depressing. Not everyone has the benefit of a basic education, let alone a good one and many are simply not as clever as you - I'm certainly not clever and I didn't really come through school well never mind further/higher education. I try to pick things up along the way but the bottom line is I just don't know the grammatically correct detail that is your hill to die on

whitetip · 03/12/2023 14:08

@keye i agree.

HMP70 · 03/12/2023 14:08

Absolutely! They way a partner colleague etc treat others, be it cleaner waiter retail staff, speaks volumes.

@Menomeno I also refute the use of the word hatred simply for believing in biology. If you want to see hatred watch this:

That was a contraversal one. Apparantly the SNP politicians had not realised those signs were behind them. Although, why were they there? Very surprised as one of the women pictured is an extremely principled person and supporter of Feminism.

I think it's more embarrassing that you have no empathy or understanding that we haven't all had the same opportunity nor do we all have the same ability to learn.

Oh, and the x

No men, however they feel, in women's single sex spaces.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, but see that there are women campaigning to gain membership of the men-only Garrick Club.
My worry is that this provides ammunition for those men seeking unfettered access to women's safe spaces.

Really?
In this country?
I don't think that's true.

Humans cannot change sex, and there is a biological difference between men and women (despite what is taught in schools and universities!).

Agree

But why the use of the Oxford comma and shouldn’t it be “they”?

MadeOfAllWork · 03/12/2023 14:12

Ebokebok · 03/12/2023 13:31

Yes it does and you should therefore know that you never put a coma before and 🙈

Hmmm.

’I’d like to thank my parents, Beyoncé and God,’

or

’I’d like to thank my parents, Beyoncé, and God.’

so sometimes you do.

That the people who stand still on the moving walkway at the airport, rather than continuing walking, should be immediately shot on the spot, by a sniper in a special crow's nest installed in the ceiling.

In reality? That "everyday" racism and sexism matters, is never "just a joke", and should always be called out, no matter how awkward it makes the situation.

Menomeno · 03/12/2023 14:04

Why do we need your sympathy? What for? She’s not dying!

I was offering you sympathy because you said your heart was breaking, and that your daughter was terrified to leave the house.

Your reaction to me offering you sympathy does make me wonder how effective you might be in moving people over to your point of view…

FatchyPog · 03/12/2023 14:14

Languages evolve and change because they are living. Do some of you really want to speak Latin, or Chaucer’s English?

Older words in English that have survived in the States, such as gotten, are reviled on here as being incorrect by the very people who resist change. It makes no sense!

OhComeOnFFS · 03/12/2023 14:15

@Ebokebok

It is another think coming, whether or not it is the hill you'd die on.

It's "if you think that, you have another think coming".

That access to good education is the key to social mobility and that private/public schools should be banned in pursuance of this goal.
