What would your death row meal be?

Only 1 option, 3 courses if you wish.

What are you having? I'll go first..

Starters: prawn cocktail with iceberg lettuce and avocado (basic I know but I love it)
Mains: rare-medium rare beef wellington either triple fried chips, mayo for the chips, pan fried asparagus and long stem broccoli, with a red wine gravy.
Desert: old school butterscotch tart, Cornish clotted cream.
Then a bix of Jaffa cakes or two.

Washed down with a litre of disaronno and cranberry to help me on my way.

What's yours?

I know I am being uptight but your question is terribly tasteless (no pun intended).

You could have asked about an ideal menu without bringing racially discriminatory, state-sanctioned murder into it.

The term has somewhat different connotations here in the UK.

I was going to say something similar. I remember reading a study of death row last meal requests and it was overwhelmingly things like corn bread/fried chicken/collard greens... the obvious racial bias was heartbreaking.

EdgarsTale · 02/12/2023 17:13

Such a tasteless question.

@SuspiciousSue "There's actually a higher percentage of white people on death row in America than ethnic minorities".

Yes, because there is a higher percentage of white people in the population at large. The question is, are the numbers on death row proportionate to those in the general population? The answer is no.

Eg. 41% of people currently on death row are Black whilst only 12% of the US' total population are Black.

You are over 10 times more likely to be sentenced to death if you are a Black person who killed a White person than if you are a White person who killed a Black person.

Anyway, back to the menu....

Started - garlic pizza bread
Main - chicken burger with fries and a side salad
Dessert - warm cookie dough and ice cream, with a side of fresh, juicy watermelon.

I'd also like to be served ice cold diet cokes throughout, and the occasionally strawberry daiquiri (blended not shaken).

Why not just have that for your dinner tonight?!

You must be referencing the well-known social media habit of turning the other cheek.

Starter: Heinz cream of tomato soup
Main: Chips and curry sauce with loads of salt and vinegar and soft, white, sliced bread to make sandwiches.
Dessert: A selection of cheese, crackers and chutneys with a glass of port.

WhichIsItWendy · 02/12/2023 17:36

Starter; summer rolls (with rice paper) with a selection of peanutty and spicy dips

Main; Thai curry with tofu, sticky rice and mango salad

Dessert; strawberry pavlova as long as the meringue is chewy.

Mmmmmm.........

Comedycook · 02/12/2023 17:38

I'll have a Chinese

Prawn toast, seaweed, ribs, spring rolls and prawn crackers as a starter

Then Singapore noodles, sweet and sour pork and crispy chilli beef

Pudding, I'll have a raspberry pavlova

Baircasolly · 02/12/2023 17:39

Starter - some sort of mushroom concoction. Maybe just fried in garlic and white wine, on a thin slice of fried ciabatta.

I know you said just one meal, but am I allowed to choose a lovely fresh, gingery, limey pad Thai, loads of coriander etc, not too spicy, with a SIDE of macaroni cheese (with the sort of silky white sauce that I've never managed to perfect), mixed with roast butternut squash, and topped with a perfect crunchy breadcrumb and parmesan crust.

Pudding - tarte tatin, made with really well caramelised apples, a hot salted caramel sauce, and vanilla ice cream.

Ps what I'm actually having: soggy left-over potato waffles and congealed beans, because I'm equal parts lazy and incompetent. Sigh.

I'll take the starter and main together and dip the sandwiches in the soup.

Spookymormonhelldream · 02/12/2023 17:59

Starter: Irish smoked salmon and brown bread with Irish butter.
Main: roast chicken with roast potatoes and gravy all made by my mum.
Pudding: Apple pie (made by my late gran) and vanilla ice cream.
All washed down with a vat of Chablis.

NetballHoop · 02/12/2023 18:00

Sprouts and cabbage with a side of beans.

If they're going to take me down, I'm going to make them smell it.

Maybe some asparagus too to make my final wee smell too.

eandz13 · 02/12/2023 18:06

Starter: probably bruschetta with plenty balsamic
Main: beef roast with all the trimmings, loads of thick proper gravy, extra Yorkshire puds... preferably cooked by DP
Dessert: cup of tea with some Leibniz biscuits to dunk

Haha I love this level of spite!

Hbh17 · 02/12/2023 18:17

Hot buttered toast (white bread, obviously) and a glass or two of Veuve Clicquot champagne. Nothing finer.

frozendaisy · 02/12/2023 18:38

Morphine

AgnesX · 02/12/2023 18:40

I'm inclined to feel by that point I wouldn't be giving a flying fuck.

fizzyred · 02/12/2023 18:44

Smoked salmon terrine (the one M&S do at Christmas)

Roast beef, with Yorkshire puddings (home made), cauliflower cheese, and lots of seasonal veg

Either Sticky toffee pudding and custard or a cheeseboard

Bernardmanning · 02/12/2023 18:46

I've often thought about this highly tasteless question and I would really struggle to choose. I think that after all that time eating plain bland meals I would probably crave a huge pile of junk food. Maybe a good cheese bacon burger and skin on fries with home made blue cheese dip and gravy. Or fish and chips. Maybe one as a starter! Then it would have to be a massive bar of Cadbury's chocolate for dessert.

Hopefully it won't ever come to that though. I tend to try to keep out of trouble.

Lilithlogic · 02/12/2023 18:47

Egg, chips and beans, big pot of tea and buttered white bread. I can only have egg and tea of that list now I'm all healthy

DoraSpenlow · 02/12/2023 19:10

Mint Aero

Box of Malteser Teasers

Three pack of M&S Walnut Whips (the mixed fillings one)

Washed down with a bottle of pink champagne
