Britney Spears... What to make of it

I've watched some of the videos she's posted over the past months-year.

Just watched one from 3 hours ago.

I still don't know what to think.

I don't know if she's repeatedly dancing like this because she was denied freedom for so long, or is she suffering from some mental health issues, does she just want to do it?

I feel sorry for her but I just don't know what to make of it.

I don't understand why there's no one around her, husband etc helping her? Or does she not need to be helped

What makes you think she isn't getting help? Not all mental illness can be cured, mostly it's just about managing the symptoms.
I imagine that being held against your will for years would have a devastating effect on a persons mental health even without previous mental illness. I doubt it's something anyone could truly get over.

itzbritneybitch · 30/11/2023 09:26

Like I said "does she even need help?"
I don't know if this is a result of those things or if she genuinely wants to do this, to which I say go her. It just doesn't seem this is the case

I’m not sure what you expect, she’s been suffering with her MH for years.

Of course.
I'm just trying to understand if this is as a result of that, is she being exploited by her husband or anyone else.

She was sexualised at a young age so that part doesn't surprise me

I think she had a theme with each dance. The pulling down of her knickers troubles me and I’m not even sure why as she’s a grown woman. She looks spaced out and she knows her sons absolutely hate her doing this. If she is mentally unwell then she’s vulnerable and watching a famous, vulnerable women try and do erotic dances to titillate (I’m guessing) feels somehow dirty for the voyeur.

itzbritneybitch · 30/11/2023 09:32

That's exactly how I feel.

I just feel so sad for her.

She doesn't look happy.

OP posts:
booktokbear · 30/11/2023 09:34

She split with her husband.

booktokbear · 30/11/2023 09:34

Nothing to do with the dancing. Just mentioning it btw.

itzbritneybitch · 30/11/2023 09:35

Did she? Oh I didn't know. I don't follow celeb news much.

Given the horrific treatment her father (and the US courts) subjected her to for so many years, is it any surprise she is struggling now that those shackles have been removed.

35965a · 30/11/2023 09:36

She has not been well for a long time. Not all mental health issues can be cured. Hopefully she is happy enough though, that’s the most important thing, she’s had a difficult life despite the money. Her parents absolutely failed her.

Without social media, someone like this would just go out in the street and perform or present, its connected to mania, being on a high (whether natural or drug related).

People without money are talking loudly at bus stops, down the pub, in the supermarket, on the streets.

As others have said, for some people MH symptoms are just managed and even then only just about managed, drugs cant cure it all. I do notice on this forum there is a mindset often that if someone gets 'help' or therapy, or medication or whatever they will get better. Thats not always true, either for physical or mental health problems. And what is 'help' meant to look like in her case?

itzbritneybitch · 30/11/2023 09:38

Again I've not expressed surprise in any of my posts.

My hope is she's happy too. She just doesn't look it in her eyes when she glares into the camera

Obviously in the past people with mental health issues didn't have the Internet at hand. Now it's sadly displayed for all to see. The downside of social media (amongst others)
Someone really needs to intervene to stop her posting online. It's very sad to see. Given her past its understandable how damaged she is, but its like watching a car crash in slow motion repeatedly and I'm pretty sure it won't end well.

That could be true.

I was first under CAHMS aged 4 and still suffer the same mental health issues. I'm aware there's often not a cure. I'm just thinking out loud I guess, hoping she's no longer being taken advantage is and hoping her mh is as best as can be.

She looks incredibly vulnerable and isolated to me. I don't see anything empowering about it.

bellac11 · 30/11/2023 09:41

Well also, its the case that just because someone is mentally unwell it doesnt mean that all their actions or choices are bad for them.

So she is dancing, its a good dance, she looks good, she still has agency unless someone is claiming she doesnt have any capacity at all. She has the right to make poor choices and who is to say its a poor choice to do this?

That's very true.

It must be awful for her. I didn't know she broke up with her husband, I didn't get a good vibe so hopefully that's for the better but what do I know.

Where did I say she was making bad choices or suggest I know how she should behave?

No, Im just chatting about the situation. Theres often a view (and I probably share it, perhaps playing devils advocate) that shes vulnerable/exploited/someone needs to stop her etc etc, when these things happen, actually not just to her but to anyone we see acting like this.

Perhaps thats our own discomfort, she has the right to make choices that we dont agree with.

Mind you, Im not on instagram so I dont see what else goes on.

RantyAnty · 30/11/2023 09:53

What misogynistic clap trap.

itzbritneybitch · 30/11/2023 09:57

@bellac11 Yeah it's tricky. I think as long as she's not being exploited and is capable of making such decisions then why not? The hard bit is that it doesn't seem like it's her own decision, it's to be expected after she was denied freedom for so long.

I guess if I'm to compare to say, Kylie Jenner, I don't have the same thoughts because I don't see her as vulnerable but I probably shouldn't see Britney as vulnerable either
