Christmas eve boxes.
First of December presents (must have lost my mind with that one)
This long winded fisherman/mermaid game we have to play every time we get out the bath.
Letting tiny toddler DS walk in shops.

My marriage

You have agency.
You don't have to do any of that.

Watchthedoormat · 28/11/2023 15:10

Buying a gift for my other child when it's their siblings birthday.
Was fine when they were little and they were happy with a colouring book and pencils.
I now find myself spending £100 on trainers or new hoody for the non-birthday child.

Buying advent calendars for friends' children. It seemed like a good idea, but no.

... and edit: this will be the last year.

De-cluttering.
Every. Fucking. Time.

I agree with the long winded, delaying tactics of bedtime games- we have a ridiculous lump game, bonfire game part 1 and 2, tweety bird game 😬🤩.
Elf on the shelf. I’ve lost count of the number of times I wake in horror in the middle of the night to drag my sorry arse downstairs to do something elfish. Ditto refillable advent calendar.
Quite sorry I dye my hair too. I quite fancy letting the white in and having creamy coloured lowlights.

Baneofmyexistence · 28/11/2023 15:58

I’m usually pretty good at just not doing things e.g have always refused elf on the shelf point blank but I do stockings for Christmas for the kids and it’s a pain. It’s just extra money and faff and there is nothing I can put in one for my disabled DD! Wish I’d never bothered but my boys love it.

IHS · 28/11/2023 16:10

Feeding one of my cats during the night and then letting her outside. She's a bit of a bully and I'm scared to say "no".

Wow, I’m reeling at the £100 gifts for non birthday children! I guess you can afford it or you wouldn’t do it. I have never heard of parents doing that, just grandparents who do it for toddlers who might throw a strop. Do they tell you what they want, like the actual birthday child? Do you have a plan to stop when they leave home?

My ex mil had to do this and also buy my ex SIL and ex bil a present too when my exH and I got married because she didn't think it was fair to buy us something without buying the other child and partner something as well. Fucking pathetic if you ask me!!

The fucking elf

Clearing out the coat cupboard under the stairs
Yes it's lovely and clear but I have a pile of 18 coats now in my dining room which apparently I can "just put on Vinted" and they will magically disappear

roarrfeckingroar · 28/11/2023 16:39

Letting my children's father into my home with the kids to put them to bed because it means I get the odd evening out to myself.

Especially under the stairs.

Top to bottom flat redecoration. I just hope the actual work doesn't take as bloody long as all the planning/decluttering (and yes, I swear some of the stuff sneaks back in when I'm not looking).

LindorDoubleChoc · 28/11/2023 16:54

Smoking, aged 21. How could I have been so stupid?

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 28/11/2023 16:59

The elf 100%, it was DH’s idea and I fucking hate it. Hopefully only a few years left.

Doubleespresso33 · 28/11/2023 16:59

Not taking mine off. I don't want to know what's underneath (Victorian flat). Decorators are going to be told to paint it.
