Christmas eve boxes.
First of December presents (must have lost my mind with that one)
This long winded fisherman/mermaid game we have to play every time we get out the bath.
Letting tiny toddler DS walk in shops.

‘’plate presents”..little prettily wrapped gifts on everyone’s plates at Xmas lunch . I have to buy and wrap my own otherwise it would look odd…

Half-joking, but another professional qualification. Sounded like the great idea when I signed up for it. I was cursing at 2am Saturday morning as I was racing to get another essay finished...

That will be me tonight lol!
In fact I’d better get started instead of reading Mumsnet.

Buying a gift for my other child when it's their siblings birthday.
Was fine when they were little and they were happy with a colouring book and pencils.
I now find myself spending £100 on trainers or new hoody for the non-birthday child.

More fool you.

You should buy yourself something massively disproportionate. 😁Everyone else gets a lip balm, you get diamond earrings...

Sidebeforeself · 29/11/2023 14:58

I should! One year my DH bought me a gift so I had a surprise too.. I gave him the paper to wrap it so they all looked the same on the table . He forgot so it looked ridiculous. Also they were some earrings.. the back posts were sticking through the paper so there was no surprise either! And they weren’t diamonds!!!

Relationship with my ex

Robux. I caved once. Once. And now all I hear is ‘ can I have some robuuuuux?’. I’d rather flush my money down the loo

Christmas Eve boxes. Started in Covid for a novelty - DD's were adult ages
Now they just expect it to continue.
I've downgraded effort though - this year it's only pj's and tinned cocktails.
Maybe a few fancy chocs...

mantyzer · 29/11/2023 16:39

Running a volunteer childrens club. Being able to stop it was the one good thing out of covid.

Laiste · 30/11/2023 08:14

At this time of year? DDs many clubs.

''Oh lets let her learn instruments and different dance styles and sing and act and x y z ....''

It's all ok during the spring and summer months, but turning out after school in the dark and cold, and early sat mornings and sitting in freezing car parks 'cos it's not quite near enough to make it worth going home and back is 'orrible. And i wish i'd never encouraged her with so much stuff. There i admitted it.

I am so keen when I first start decorating! Oh the ideas I have! After about 2 hours I'm miserable and hungry. Painting the master bedroom here was like painting the fourth bridge. And I've still got the proper rooms to go.

I'm howling at "that fucking elf", "elf on a fucking shelf"! I'm so glad my DS was an adult when that came out!

I don't do Christmas eve boxes but my DS would get new pyjamas and a small gift from his presents under the tree.

olderbutwiser · 30/11/2023 08:47

The thick door curtain designed to keep drafts out of the sitting room. One of the fabrics is too soft and stretchy, they sent the wrong lining fabric, I’m not sure the tension pole will hold, i dont have enough buckram for the top so have to source something to do the job from somewhere, and it’s absolutely massive and totally unwieldy to sew. And now it’s cold and I need it and it’s not done and I will have to do it today come what may.

Also first marriage, and breastfeeding to sleep.

Getting involved with the office lunatic. Many miserable years of coercive control

Have you lost your mind. If they're old enough for £100 trainers they are old enough to be told this isn't happening any more

Why do you do this? My parents didn't even do this when my sibling and I were toddlers and we're Irish twins! Just tell them no and to wait for their birthday.

Clearing out the coat cupboard under the stairs
Yes it's lovely and clear but I have a pile of 18 coats now in my dining room which apparently I can "just put on Vinted" and they will magically disappear

Tbf, when I did this one person bought them as a bundle. 8 coats in one giant box. They were priced at max 8 quid I think, so reasonably priced. Was worth it for me.

Solidarity. I sort it into piles on the floor - finance file, pensions file, reviews of books I might want to read file etc etc...then all the stuff for a particular file is all together. And if you don't file it straightaway it sits on the floor guilting you until you do.

Edited

That is a great idea , however I think my cat would think I have bought him a great new toy called Scatter The Paperwork 😺

Last series of Mafs. I watched until the end and genuinely disliked most of them.
Getting fat again after losing weight.
Dh generally.

I'm so glad I opted out of MAFS before it even started this year! I feel so wholesome!

Decorating my living room!
First I broke my arm.
Then my mum got poorly and needed my full time care .
Sadly I've just lost my mum.
My house is upside down due to the decorating and I've still to make magic for the kids in a few weeks time 😩

So sorry about your mum 💐
