Help! I've messed up wedding flowers!

Ahhh I could cry and throw up right now!

My BIL and soon to be SIL asked me to do their wedding flowers (they're on a budget) and I did floristry at college.

So they asked me and I said yes we looked at flowers and decided to order a 'wedding pack' from a supplier and well I've messed up on the delivery date and instead of it coming on the 4th of January it's coming... TOMORROW!!!

I have no use for £500 worth of flowers tomorrow argghhh!!

So people of mums net if you had £500 worth of flowers..... What would you do with them..... also any suggestions on how I'd be able to make some of the money back for them as now I will be having to spend £500 on new flowers for the wedding!

Babymamma192 · 30/11/2023 15:47

I've just had a lovely experience delivering a bouquet to someone's mum.
It was lovely to see her face when she opened the door completely not expecting flowers and she was just made up with them and it was lovely to be able to tell her that her daughter had bought them for her I thought she was gonna cry! It was so lovely to see!

The daughter just messaged to say her mum loves the flowers and do I have a flower page on Facebook 💐
.....i might make one 🤔

@user701 do you know if this would work for preserving the hydrangea? Looks like I'll have a few left so I'm thinking if I preserve them maybe I could make small bouquets with them for the flower Girls?

Preserved flowers are always a bit lacking. I'd preserve some to sell but use fresh for the wedding.

user701 · 30/11/2023 18:12

Yes that will do it. Mix it with lukewarm water (there are loads of recipes on the internet but I use roughly two parts water to one part glycerine). If you're doing something like eucalyptus (or in fact any foliage) it really benefits from a bit of food colouring too and then it stays properly green. Then just leave the stems in and they soak up the glycerine. They last for months and months. Much longer than dried flowers. I have some that still look perfect after more than three years. Hydrangeas work really well.

user701 · 30/11/2023 18:18

Not the best photo but I’ve just pulled these out of an arrangement. The one on the left is dried and three months old. It’s brittle and will break if knocked. The one on the right is glycerine preserved and three years old. It’s bendy and much better for arrangements.

Babymamma192 · 30/11/2023 19:25

@user701 wow that's amazing 3 years!! I have loads of eucalyptus left so I could possibly use it for the wedding if I do that. Thanks for the pic and all your help 👍 I'll have to pick some glycerine up tomorrow and have a go 😊

I am in no way a flower expert but I've got lots of dried hydrangeas in the house, all I did was stick them in a (dry!) vase and spray them with a little bit of Ellnett, they've stayed perfect for over a year now!

Johnbull · 02/12/2023 07:49

Perhaps the Eucalyptus could be sold to organised wreath making session's?
I'm in the Frodsham area and would like some this year. I'd be happy to collect

TokyoSushi · 02/12/2023 07:57

Nothing to add but what a lovely thread! Well done everybody!

LylaLee · 02/12/2023 08:14

Have you broken even yet, OP?

Have you got rid of them all?

Send an email to the suppliers and confirm, in writing, that your actual order is for Saturday 14th February 2025 (or whenever) and do this again a month before the wedding to ensure the actual wedding flowers are delivered on time.

Peachwednesday · 02/12/2023 08:27

This could be the start of a whole new beautiful business OP

MrsPerfect12 · 02/12/2023 09:55

Lovely flowers. I hope you
manage to get a good amount sold to get your money back. Good luck.

Dotcheck · 02/12/2023 10:03

Anyone else hoping this is the start of OP’s flower empire?

MrsKeats · 02/12/2023 11:03

Yes me dot
Mine are gorgeous.

makeminealargeoneagain · 02/12/2023 12:44

Hope you managed to make most of your money back. Good luck with the wedding flowers. Please post some photos of them. You've a real talent.

Babymamma192 · 02/12/2023 19:50

Hi everyone! First time I've come on here today and just seen all your lovely messages! Thank you all!

@Johnbull unfortunately I don't have any of the eucalyptus left!

@LylaLee i have 3 bouquets left and still have a bit of foliage.... Probably looking at £250 made back in total if I sell these 3 bouquets so half the money back which isn't too bad!
@Dotcheck @MrsKeats it would be nice to have a flower empire but don't think I could cope 😂😂 maybe a change of career though and finally get to be a florist....might see if there are any jobs going near me!
@makeminealargeoneagain thank you! I will post the wedding flowers 💐
