Help! I've messed up wedding flowers!

Ahhh I could cry and throw up right now!

My BIL and soon to be SIL asked me to do their wedding flowers (they're on a budget) and I did floristry at college.

So they asked me and I said yes we looked at flowers and decided to order a 'wedding pack' from a supplier and well I've messed up on the delivery date and instead of it coming on the 4th of January it's coming... TOMORROW!!!

I have no use for £500 worth of flowers tomorrow argghhh!!

So people of mums net if you had £500 worth of flowers..... What would you do with them..... also any suggestions on how I'd be able to make some of the money back for them as now I will be having to spend £500 on new flowers for the wedding!

I wish I was closer, I would definitely buy a bunch! Keep us posted 😃

MakesmySoulTripAway · 29/11/2023 07:44

I am miles away but wanted to say good luck. I did my sisters wedding flowers in the summer and loved it but it is very stressful, she really loved them.

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 29/11/2023 07:58

Sounds like you’ve pretty much got it sorted @Babymamma192 but just in case, did you know dried flower wedding bouquets are now a thing? If you don’t get them all sold fresh you could try drying some out then you’ve got longer to shift them.

@FatFilledTrottyPuss im hoping to sell them all on fb but if I can't then drying them is a good idea... I will give it a try, never done it before so might learn some thing new!

@MakesmySoulTripAway very stressful definitely, but lovely that you could do it for her and so special to get to make your sisters bouquet!

The flowers haven't arrived yet but should be here before 11am so will update when they arrive!

Call your local paper and see if they can generate interest.

Call your local paper and see if they can generate interest.

That’s a good idea. They’ll probably need a picture of you surrounded by millions of flowers looking shocked though.

rainbowstardrops · 29/11/2023 09:38

I'd have considered doing a trial run but that's a very expensive trial run!!!!

isthismylifenow · 29/11/2023 10:02

I'm not even the the same country as you OP but I would love to see some pics when they do arrive.

I live not far from a flower market. I go there from time to time, if I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself or just need some self love. As the minute you walk in there, the scent is just an instant perk up.

I have never left without several bunches or some plants of some kind. It's impossible not to 😄

The best part is, you can eye up several different types and then ask for them to be arranged. Off they go and next minute, here comes the most beautifully arranged bouquets. It is an art!

I wish you luck on finding homes for them, but I'm sure you will enjoy the aroma too.

AdultLounge · 29/11/2023 10:05

Oh yes please. Let's see some pictures when you're done. I'd buy some off you if I was near your area.

Let's hope you get them all sold.

user701 · 29/11/2023 10:19

Don’t dry them, glycerine them. Flowers sold as dried flowers are generally done in glycerine so that they last much longer (often with dye added for the pure foliage stems). It’s extremely easy to do

Babymamma192 · 29/11/2023 11:10

@ChateauMargaux thanks for your message! It's actually made me feel less stressed 😂 I can make 25 bouquets and saying it like that makes it feel like it's not a big deal 😂 so thank you!

@user701 Thank you for the advice! I will look into it more if I do have any left.

The flowers have arrived... I've conditioned them all and now I'm sitting down with a cuppa while the flowers have a big drink.
The house smells amazing and I would actually be in my element with all these flowers here (they're gorgeous) if I wasn't stressed 😂😂

Early Christmas presents for friends, neighbours, family?

isthismylifenow · 29/11/2023 11:31

@Babymamma192 that is really beautiful.

Maybe the smell will help de-stress you slightly, but you have a good task ahead of you admittedly.

As a previous poster said, rather a month too early than getting the order too late.

And you have to keep a few for your own home, just because... 😊

stayathomegardener · 29/11/2023 11:38

Super excited waiting for my delivery!

Call your local paper and see if they can generate interest.

Great idea, our DD was featured in the Chester Chronicle once and went viral, ended up all over the world and it's on line now I believe so no need to catch Thursdays editorial.

ChateauMargaux · 29/11/2023 13:50

Please share pictures of the whole shipment and the bunches when you have made them!!

And do take a moment tp enjoy even if it's steessful!!

JamieKnows · 29/11/2023 14:03

Just here for the photos! Too far from Chester or I'd have had a bouquet from you

OutOfSyncWithReality · 29/11/2023 14:24

What a lovely supportive thread. I wish I was closer so I could buy some but please keep us updated OP.

SunshineOnARainyDay3 · 29/11/2023 16:45

Have you got a link to your fb post?

Babymamma192 · 29/11/2023 11:14

Look how beautiful this hydrangea is 😍

Gorgeous! But I bet the person suggesting knocking up a few £10 bouquets doesn’t realise the bouquet would be one Hydrangea stem at flower wholesaler prices 🤣

EffinMagicFairy · 29/11/2023 17:13

Following to hear the outcome, wishing you all the best, I’d have a bouquet but too far away. Beautiful hydrangea - they do dry really well.

LylaLee · 29/11/2023 17:23

You could advertise for a last minute wedding floral deal. A bride who was not planning on spending anything for flowers might cough up £100 for a bouquet, centrepiece and some buttonholes.

Another suggestion is to contact local restaurants/pubs/cafes. Explain that you got an order on the wrong day.

One bride, a pub, and some bouquets and you've broken even.

stayathomegardener · 29/11/2023 19:25

Absolutely beautiful flowers, I'm delighted.
Thank you @Babymamma192
