Help! I've messed up wedding flowers!

Ahhh I could cry and throw up right now!

My BIL and soon to be SIL asked me to do their wedding flowers (they're on a budget) and I did floristry at college.

So they asked me and I said yes we looked at flowers and decided to order a 'wedding pack' from a supplier and well I've messed up on the delivery date and instead of it coming on the 4th of January it's coming... TOMORROW!!!

I have no use for £500 worth of flowers tomorrow argghhh!!

So people of mums net if you had £500 worth of flowers..... What would you do with them..... also any suggestions on how I'd be able to make some of the money back for them as now I will be having to spend £500 on new flowers for the wedding!

Wow @Babymamma192 , you shouldn’t have any trouble selling bunches like this.

TheWetBandits · 29/11/2023 19:51

@Babymamma192 they are stunning!

How are you getting on @Babymamma192 ??

stayathomegardener · 29/11/2023 20:09

Is there a market for a mobile florist I wonder?
I do think the industry will see changes, I've been considering starting to grow UK foliage as suspect costs to ship from Holland are going to be prohibitive in the future.

Bernardmanning · 29/11/2023 20:15

Wreaths. Can you do uplifting Christmas wreaths? Also, send your bil.and sil a bouquet as an early Xmas present.
You could also contact a local hospice. Sometimes terminally ill patients have last minute weddings.

Minkyscamp · 29/11/2023 20:22

You could (subject to having time) make wreaths using all that foliage and hypericum - good time to be selling them.

Should be able to offload the roses/carnations/hydrangeas to a local florist if the price is right!

Babymamma192 · 29/11/2023 20:38

@EffinMagicFairy @TheWetBandits Thank you both! Glad you like them 😂 hoping people on fb will like them when I post on there tomorrow!

@Rattymcratty getting on ok! Just had a break to bath the kids 😂 gonna try and make as many as I can tonight so that I can post them on fb in the morning.

@Bernardmanning @Minkyscamp good idea about wreaths! I'm going to try and use up all the flowers in bouquets but definitely could make wreaths with the foliage that's left!

@stayathomegardener i think it would be a great idea to grow foliage at home...florists always need foliage and you'd be cutting out the shipping cost so could make quite a bit of money 🤔

I was going to post some pics of the bouquets I've got but they don't look as nice on the pictures as they are irl.... Anyone have any tips or tricks they could share with me?

No tips but please post the pics anyway.

Everything looks better in natural light… so next to the window or in the garden.

Madcats · 30/11/2023 09:47

Just popping back to congratulate you/bride on their unusual choice of colours for a wedding; that bouquet is lovely!

ChateauMargaux · 30/11/2023 09:50

What a useful opportunity to think about how the wedding flowers will look on the day and in pictures...

MakesmySoulTripAway · 30/11/2023 09:55

Very nice bouquet, my sister had roses, lisianthus and sea thistles as her main flowers. I then picked greenery and added willow stems along with the eucalyptus I bought and some ornamental grass and stems of rosemary. Rosemary is for remembrance for loved ones that have passed and her and her new DH were both widowed.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2023 09:58

Do are them to local churches?

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2023 09:58

Donate

Babymamma192 · 30/11/2023 10:01

I've taken a couple of pictures near the doors.... Look better than they did when I tried to take them last night so thanks for the tip @DuploTrain 👍

Can you put something matt underneath before you photograph? The reflections from the floor detract from the flowers (particularly in the first picture), imo.

FireandBrimstone · 30/11/2023 10:11

Not in a position to buy but just chanced upon the thread and wanted to say that it's giving me all the feels, lovely that so many MNers have rallied and so heartwarming. Good luck OP, your bouquets look stunning and I hope you're on track to recoup your money.

sashh · 30/11/2023 10:29

If you do end up donating them OP consider your local food bank / community shop. Flowers for me are a real luxury, something I buy perhaps once a year.

Obviously only if you can't sell them.

Oh and that buquet on the right is stunning.

AdultLounge · 30/11/2023 10:44

The smell in your house must be amaaaaaazing!!

LaurieStrode · 30/11/2023 10:55

Very pretty! Great colour palette.

MargaritaHargitaysLittleSister · 30/11/2023 10:55

Aw this is such a lovely thread

Babymamma192 · 30/11/2023 11:02

@FallingAutumnLeaf great idea thanks!
@AdultLounge it does smell good 😂
@MakesmySoulTripAway sounds beautiful!
@sashh great idea to take them to food banks 👍 I will do that if they don't sell! Be nice for someone to enjoy them.

Beautiful bouquets, @Babymamma192 what a talent.
For photos try taking them with your eye level looking straight at the vase instead of looking down at them, that should help
