Help! I've messed up wedding flowers!

Babymamma192 · 28/11/2023 14:41

Ahhh I could cry and throw up right now!

My BIL and soon to be SIL asked me to do their wedding flowers (they're on a budget) and I did floristry at college.

So they asked me and I said yes we looked at flowers and decided to order a 'wedding pack' from a supplier and well I've messed up on the delivery date and instead of it coming on the 4th of January it's coming... TOMORROW!!!

I have no use for £500 worth of flowers tomorrow argghhh!!

So people of mums net if you had £500 worth of flowers..... What would you do with them..... also any suggestions on how I'd be able to make some of the money back for them as now I will be having to spend £500 on new flowers for the wedding!

Better a month too early than a day too late!

Wow so many suggestions! Thank you all!!
@Laurdo they're oranges, reds and the hydrangea are green so could pass as festive bouquets!
@Doormatnomore haha keep your eyes peeled I may just be there 🤣
@WishIMite im in the north west not far from Chester.
@QueenOfWeeds a trial run is also a good suggestion and if I can't get them sold on I'll be having a go at it 😂 at least I'll be prepared for the real thing 🤣

@OhMehGoddess thank you for sharing your story 🤣 good to know I'm not alone
.. Hope everything worked out for you and your mum!

Oh bless this is the kind of thing that happens to me, where will you be selling? I'm in Alvanley 6 miles from Chester.

How about Frodsham market on Thursday? Not sure if you need a license though.

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 28/11/2023 22:57

Whatever you can’t shift keep and dry them out to use as confetti on the wedding.

@stayathomegardener ahh Frodsham market is a good shout! I'll see if I can find any info about a license!

Failing that I'll probably end up trying to sell on fb!
Do you want to be my first customer 😂🤣 free delivery 😂

Loads of great ideas here. I'd trial a few bouquets and check FB for local Christmas fairs. Really like the dried flowers as confetti if there's left overs. Maybe some dried could be used in a table setting or centre piece? Make wedding favours, pot pourri?

stayathomegardener · 28/11/2023 23:13

I'd be delighted, can I spend £30 please? Happy to share on local village Facebook groups.
Also going to suggest Okells Garden Centre just outside Tarvin, very approachable family run business, plenty of room for a weekend pop up shop on a sale or return basis, lots of passing customers and they don't already sell fresh flowers.

Babymamma192 · 28/11/2023 23:18

@stayathomegardener Really? Wow thank you! I'll send you a message to arrange everything tomorrow once the flowers arrive!

I'll have a look at the garden centre too! Thanks so much for your help! Really appreciate it.

If you are thinking of being a lovely human, any you have left you could take to a place where people are stuck inside (mental health ward, children's hospital, hospice, old people's home, a 'live at home' scheme (ask locally, ask age UK etc) and do a demo with a free bunch?
It might cost you more than you can afford now, but better than going in the bin.
BTW I think you sound lovely.
What goes around, comes around OP.
I think this will lead to a new something for you.
Keep us posted on what it turns out to be!
(And there's always food banks - when I was rich, I bought flowers on the market. Now I don't.)
Good luck!

Babymamma192 · 28/11/2023 23:31

@CrebillionFils @LiteKim its really amazing! Didn't expect to get this much help and definitely didn't expect to be able to sell some to other mums netters!

I will keep you all updated and let you all know how I get on making some of the money back!

Preserve them with glycerine solution. Particularly things like hydrangeas and eucalyptus which preserve really well

Babymamma192 · 28/11/2023 23:43

@Peasnbeans thank you for your message! Love your suggestions! You also sound like a lovely person thinking of others, great ideas!

You never know, it would be nice if it does lead to something new!

I will keep you all posted!

Wishing you luck OP, wish I was closer, the flowers sound lovely!

DaisyMaisyFaisy · 29/11/2023 04:54

I wish I was closer, I’d definitely get some to brighten things up

Good luck!

LaurieStrode · 29/11/2023 05:10

I hope you resell them successfully.

Off topic but if you do need to earn, people get desperate for pet sitters around Christmas. Or house sitters.

ChateauMargaux · 29/11/2023 06:25

I would avoid spending any more money on cellophane or other additions.. perhaps some brown paper and string.. better for the environment and less expensive - you don't want to add to the cost if you can avoid it.

Look carefully at the prices of your flowers and foliage so that you don't underprice your bunches.

Look at what you need make to cover the costs eg 25 bunches at £20 each... what combinations can you make with the flowers you have - ie don't see 6 bunches of a dozen roses for £25 each and then find you struggles to sell what you have left. Think about family and friends as well as Facebook groups. In the time available, it might be challenging to find a commercial outlet with the right licences and permissions etc.

GOOD LUCK!!

FourteenTog · 29/11/2023 06:28

Please use paper and not cellophane, for green reasons?
