Dummy dipped in liquid malt every time I spat it out.
Given liquid Phenegan to make me sleep every night from 0-5 years.
As a toddler and small child, given huge bowls of currents/sultanas to eat multiple times a day as it was "healthy".

We shared a bath and bath water with our parents and siblings

I was bitten by ladybirds a LOT of ladybirds

Rafting2022 · 26/11/2023 22:01

The pips!

User1343 · 26/11/2023 22:05

My parents went to sit-ins at university and lived in a commune when I was born.

There was lots of casual drugs around during my childhood and people trying out ways of parenting as a collective, living sustainably, designing their own clothes.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/11/2023 22:05

OP - the sixties ?

PuttingDownRoots · 26/11/2023 22:09

My Mum went on "maternity leave" (actually a few years career break) when the office was paper based and went back to completely computers.

Teaching grammar at school was out of fashion

10p mixes at the newsagent

I got my first phone by saving coke can ringpulls

CryptoFascist · 26/11/2023 22:10

We had Myrtle the turtle in school IT lessons

Peanutcookies · 26/11/2023 22:10

Haha, we were definitely born in the same decade

GingerLiberalFeminist · 26/11/2023 22:13

I was a teenager when Kurt Cobain took his own life. I moved out of home when Diana died.

I was fed deep fat fried Findus crispie pancakes and alphabites as a child.

I had a rainbow brite doll, a carebear and always wanted a cabbage patch doll but didn't get one.

Advent calendars were pictures and you stuck cloves in a christingle orange, not marshmallows

Tiredandbored · 26/11/2023 22:16

Got a ruler across my palm in primary school;

Took turns to ride in the car boot as we were a family of 6 with a 5-seater car;

Spam or boil in the bag fish were regular midweek meals.

RedToothBrush · 26/11/2023 22:17

When I was eight I everyone went nuts for grolsch bottle tops, slap bands and neon lace wrist bands. Brother Beyond, Rick Astley, Kylie and the Pet Shop Boys had hits we danced to in the playground.

When I was thirteen it was all NafNaf jackets, shell suits and global hypercolor t-shirts.

When I was 14/15 doc martens boots, long skirts and being as miserable as sin was cool.

But by the time I got to 17/18 it was Adidas trainers, skinny 70s tops and jeans. We liked crazy ferrets from Manchester.

Our Reception teacher was allowed to smack naughty kids, and occasionally did so. But the teachers we had in subsequent years weren’t allowed to.

There was a time (late primary school age), when my burning ambition was to eat a Cadbury’s Flake in the bath.

As a teenager, I collected Spectacular nail varnishes, tried hair mascara and loved everything glittery.

I didn’t really discover the internet until I was in sixth form college.

waltzingparrot · 26/11/2023 22:21

My mum wore shockingly short dresses made of crimplene.

Icantsleepagain · 26/11/2023 22:21

My toys as a child were my little ponies and fashion wheel.
I had a few double denim outfits and a Ra Ra skirt. Always wore a scrunchie bobble, my cousin had these gripper things that went around buns.
Hair crimping was popular.
I had what we called ski pants (leggings with lines down the middle) with elastic on the bottom that went around your foot.
Shell suits.
As a teen spice girls, all saints were in the charts and during exam years I liked bands like Muse and Korn.

watermelonsugar56 · 26/11/2023 22:21

Distinctly remember packets of crisps with “Computers for schools” on them from when I was about 10.

viques · 26/11/2023 22:25

my mother searched high and low for chocolate decorations for the tree. She eventually found some covered in foil. The next day I rushed up to my parents bedroom to let them in on my amazing discovery……. To make sure it wasn’t a mistake I had checked everyone.

Cookerhood · 26/11/2023 22:25

I was woken up in the middle of the night to see the first man walk on the Moon.
The Falklands war was when I was at university.

TicTacNicNak · 26/11/2023 22:25

My birth decade was labelled "swinging", but it didn't have same meaning as today.

LakeTiticaca · 26/11/2023 22:28

No central heating. Ice inside the windows. No car. No phone. No money. No government handouts except child benefit.(Family allowance) Walked to school. Respected authority
Now everyone hates us and thinks we are to blame for present day ills 😉

Yup. Or occasionally Claire.

Had bay city rollers socks in primary. Tick.

Wore leg warmers as a teen. Tick.

Bubble perm when I started work. Tick.
