Dummy dipped in liquid malt every time I spat it out.
Given liquid Phenegan to make me sleep every night from 0-5 years.
As a toddler and small child, given huge bowls of currents/sultanas to eat multiple times a day as it was "healthy".

@hermenmumster I still have my Ed the duck! His hair is a bit of a paler green but he still has his sweater and his squeaker still works. He's very precious

Bambooshoot · 27/11/2023 02:24

As a child my mum dressed me in little tartan pleated skirts with a vest attached, or scratchy polo neck jumpers in shades of brown or orange.

I watched the Flumps, Mr Ben, Chorlton and the Wheelies and we only had three channels on the TV. Breakfast TV was introduced as a new thing when I was about 8.

Margaret Thatcher was kicked out when I was in sixth form.

SammyScrounge · 27/11/2023 02:50

Mum used to play vinyl records on the stereo unit.Us kids loved to dance round the room with her to the tune:

"She wears red feathers and a hula hula skirt
She wears red feathers and a hula hula skir

She lives on just cokey-nuts and fish from the sea
A rose in her hair, a gleam in her eyes
And love in her heart for me
I work in a London bank, respectable position..."

We used to whoop like apache Indians and war dance round the room after my Mum It was years before I knew we should have been Hawaiians

MixedCouple · 27/11/2023 02:56

Every one had a Cindy Doll, Polly in my pocket and Puppy in my pocket.

Cartoon Network & MTV was the best entertainment.

We had a Comador and Atari. We had the Cartridge gaming console called Lynx.

Didn't have the internet until I was 16. We used to spend our time speaking to "Oliver Bot" and thought it was the best thing ever.

Dawsons Creek, Saved by the bell & Heart Break High was the Jam.

Geppili · 27/11/2023 03:11

I watched the moon landing on a wooden TV with spindly legs and a dial from my towelling bouncy chair

I’m Australian. Those were the days when Australia was welcoming to refugees. My school was certainly not the only school with a sudden influx of Vietnamese children, I promise you!

Definitely not the same shool then 😅

The charity who organised them coming to the UK was based in our town and had a home there so we had a few refugees in school from other countries too. It was, as you say, all over the news and TV news filmed at our school quite a lot.

MintJulia · 27/11/2023 08:49

My parents drove down the road where the great train robbery was happening, on the way to the maternity unit.

Later the police asked my dm if she'd noticed anything unusual 😂

RainbowCrayons · 27/11/2023 09:13

Very seasonal and I feel this gives me away almost to the year but I though ‘Hosannah in Exelcis” was “Rosanna in a shellsuit“

Giggorata · 27/11/2023 09:23

JRR Tolkien published the third book of the Lord of the Rings.
The first advert was shown on British TV, for Gibbs toothpaste.
Winston Churchill was still Prime Minister during some of this decade.

Citrusandginger · 27/11/2023 11:03

FantasticButtocks · 27/11/2023 00:02

I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden...
Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me...
Where's your mama gone, where's your mama gone, where's your papa gone <repeat> far far away 🎶
Pinky and Perky
Listen with mother
Angliers junior aspirin
Polio vaccine on a sugar lump
Basil Brush
Sooty and Sweep

They used to read out long list of football results on weekend afternoons on telly and the winning score was stated in an 'up' tone of voice and loser in a down tone...
Bristol Rovers 1, (up) Celtic nil (down)
West Bromwich Albion 2, (down) Queen's Park rangers three (up)
If the scores were the same they went neither up nor down

Pinky and perky were the first record I bought.

SiobhanSharpe · 27/11/2023 11:23

As a young teenager -- shops closed at midday on Saturdays and being bored shitless on Sundays when everything closed.
Listening to Pick of the Pops with Alan Freeman (greetings, pop-pickers!) on the BBC Light Programme.
Pirate radio was fab! Met some of the DJs at roadshow type events on rare afternoon out from boarding school .
Wearing absurdly short mini-skirts and being complimented on my legs by strangers -men- in the street. And being absurdly flattered. 😤

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/11/2023 13:04

The Beatles
B&W TV only

Justcallmebebes · 27/11/2023 13:45

One of my earliest baby photos when I was a couple of days old, my mum sat holding me, dad standing proudly next to her, both stood with a lit fag in their hands
