Is this dress okay for Christmas party? (With pics)

And if I like this, what other dresses would I like?

It's a black tie event, have been many years on the trip, quite an extravagant party with dinner and a big party. Flame throwers etc. people where dinner / cocktail dresses and some wear shorter dresses but nothing casual.

I love this dress, but not sure if it's Christmas party vibes.

What's everyone's thoughts? I'm so torn as I don't know where else I'd wear it and I absolutely love it.

Also open to suggestions please!

I wouldn't wear that to a black tie event.
It is far too casual.

Plumful · 23/11/2023 09:24

Absolutely not. Sorry but it’s not appropriate. You have a good figure so I’m sure you can find something better.

Reallynotoverreacting · 23/11/2023 09:26

I love the back but the front is giving me 2001 Britney spears vibes. You have a cracking figure so I'm sure you could wear anything and look good but this is just not black tie appropriate

Ahhhh no I was hoping it would be okay.

Okay, back to the drawing board. Any suggestions?

A lot of women wear glittery mini dresses so I thought this would be okay (maybe) but if nobody thinks it's appropriate then I'll find something else

The favourite Mumsnet term but it does look very dated and a bit too revealing. You have a fantastic figure so could find something much nicer and more modern. It's also quite gapey around the chest area

lesdeluges · 23/11/2023 09:28

Some of these threads amuse me. OP has a fab figure, looks great, is young, great hair etc. and can wear a bin bag and look good.

But still needs approval and validation of their choice. Unless it is provocative in that the outfit is a bit OTT to anyone looking on.

So OP wear what you want. Your body your choice. I think you know yourself that the dress is a bit...... thus you asking us to actually point that out for you.

Reallynotoverreacting · 23/11/2023 09:30

lesdeluges she asked for opinions??

birdling · 23/11/2023 09:32

I think possibly either chest or legs revealed, but not both.

Drpawpawspaw · 23/11/2023 09:34

It’s a little bit Strictly for me! But if you love it wear it!

CherryMyBrandy · 23/11/2023 09:37

I'm not sure how that's been described as "casual". lol. Wouldn't wear that at the weekend while slobbing around the house, doing the shopping, walking the dog!

Having said that I do think it looks cheap and dated. The material's not very nice, too shiny. Also looks a bit like something an ice skater would wear.

You have a stunning figure OP. Sure you can find something much better.

Hereforthedramaz · 23/11/2023 09:38

OP does the invitation or details actually black tie? That's quite specific and as people say has a strict code, which your dress as others your describe wouldn't meet.

Sounds like you are describing cocktail dress which your dress would work for.

Tad strictly for my taste but suits your figure and you already own it!

rainbowstardrops · 23/11/2023 09:41

Sorry but I don't like it. I do like the dress that @Reallynotoverreacting linked to. Very classy and elegant.

The invite says 'dress to impress' on it.

I would prefer it if it's was specifically black tie! It would make this much easier Grin

I think actually you can get away with it for black tie, the question is should you. It looks very dated now, I assume it’s old, which there is no issue with, but generally not ones that jusy look dated.

i would also think if you have money get something more current. If you have not them just wear it, it’s one night and you like it.

I'm asking for opinions on a dress which have been useful to me as now I have since realised it's not appropriate to wear.

I think you like nice and you love it so wear it. It’s perfect for a Christmas party.

Celebrationsnakes · 23/11/2023 09:48

This is stunning.

Frasers · 23/11/2023 09:46

I don’t know if you maybe have no budget, so have went for something low cost. Sequined mini dresses are very current at the moment. There is so many to choose from.

Look how high the front is. You can nearly see underwear.

TheAccidental · 23/11/2023 09:54

Just out of interest, what occasion exactly do people think OP could wear this dress for? It definitely looks evening wear to me. I think black tie these days is a very broad remit and short dresses are fine. The colour and fabric of OPs dress are also black tie suitable. The cut might be dated or not to others taste, but that's not what she's asking.

OP if you're happy in it and love it then I say absolutely wear it.

newusername763849 · 23/11/2023 09:56

That early 2000s look is back in, so I'd ignore posters saying it looks dated!

jollygreenpea · 23/11/2023 09:57

That's a beautiful classy dress.
Legs or boobs never both.

Frasers That's too short you would spend most of the night trying to pull it down to cover your knickers, you would have to put something over your legs when sitting down.

ChristmasShopping23 · 23/11/2023 09:59

If it’s dress to impress I think you can wear it!
