Is this dress okay for Christmas party? (With pics)

And if I like this, what other dresses would I like?

It's a black tie event, have been many years on the trip, quite an extravagant party with dinner and a big party. Flame throwers etc. people where dinner / cocktail dresses and some wear shorter dresses but nothing casual.

I love this dress, but not sure if it's Christmas party vibes.

What's everyone's thoughts? I'm so torn as I don't know where else I'd wear it and I absolutely love it.

Also open to suggestions please!

I really like it, and you look stunning in it

Cas112 · 23/11/2023 12:19

OP the dress is fine. Please don't listen to half these comments

Calendargirly · 23/11/2023 13:32

I think it fits the "dress to impress" dress code BUT I don't think it flatters your amazing figure and it's very strictly vibes. I also agree it's a bit dated.

You have a great figure and can find something much nicer for you to wear.

Its okay I dont really like the front it looks like a frill skirt I'd go for a nice midi or something with a leg slit and boob tube maybe or spaghetti straps. Curly hair down or hair up and big dangle earrings. Sexy but sophisticated look. I think its the material of that dress might be the light quality but looks a bit cheap and dated

BungleandGeorge · 23/11/2023 17:45

It’s not black tie. But if the party isn’t specifically black tie you could wear it, I think it would be fine. Even if the party was black tie not everyone sticks to the dress code and what does it matter really. With the right accessories it’s not so casual that you’ll look like you came straight from work!

DueyCheatemAndHow · 23/11/2023 17:54

I really think it lookss more like a costume - and I'm sorry quite cheap one. You've got a great figure, def show it off with something either short or low cut - but I don't think this dress is right for the party.

DisforDarkChocolate · 23/11/2023 17:57

It looks like your part of the dance troupe providing entertainment. You do look amazing in it though.

Catsandcuddles · 23/11/2023 20:42

Agree with PP about the dancer look. I don't think it's too short /inappropriate etc but it's giving strictly come dancing vibes. If that's what you want, they great go for it, you have the figure for it!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/11/2023 20:52

If you like it and you feel good in it then go with it.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 23/11/2023 20:54

Luckingfovely · 23/11/2023 11:51

In terms of the dress itself, no matter when you bought it, It looks absolutely cheap, dated, and costumey, rather than black tie, elegant, or modern. Also far too revealing for most work events (not all depending on industry, but definitely most).

On the other hand - you look awesome in it and if you like the look then wear it!

It's your choice, I think the thread has been mostly in agreement about the dress not being great, so it's up to you now - have fun! Smile

What a truly nasty response .

NectarinesAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 23/11/2023 21:04

I don't think it flatters you. There are some really elegant dresses in the links above. I'm sorry, but I think yours looks cheap.

Mummyofbananas · 23/11/2023 21:23

Your dress is fine I'd say, it's not my style but you look good in it, it flatters your figure and the colour is nice, I think maybe a different bra just so it fits a bit better in the chest. I don't think it's too revealing for a dress to impress dress code.

The dress above is stunning!

Ilovemycatalot · 23/11/2023 21:28

jusr waiting for the recommendations for boden ankle length monstrosities that someone always suggests on here!
OP your obviously young with a great figure mumsnet is probably not the best place to get on trend suggestions.

GalileoHumpkins · 23/11/2023 21:30

The up and down hem is awful and the fabric looks shiny and cheap. You have a great figure, you can do much better.

itsmyp4rty · 23/11/2023 21:37

I feel like you're going to break into 'Making your mind up' and rip the rest of the skirt off! I'd like it to be the length it is at the back at the front too BUT I'm old and if this is the sort of thing everyone else is wearing then you should go for it - actually you'd probably be much better of asking the opinions of your work mates then us randoms on here.

wincarwoo · 23/11/2023 21:39

It's absolutely fine for a black tie. I

OneCup · 23/11/2023 21:41

It doesn't look black tie to me.

PinkPondQueen · 23/11/2023 21:43

You can absolutely wear this! I have a Christmas party on Saturday at a famous hotel with a 'Dress to Impress' code, i've been looking at dresses for weeks and guess what i've seen so many short at the front/longer at the back dresses like this one so how in any way in this dated?!

All those saying 'oh you can do so much better' what if OP can't afford to?! She has a dress that she looks amazing in snd which is entirely appropriate for the occasion. Plus in reality no-one will give a flying fart what she's wearing including OP once she's had a few drinks.

I don’t know if you maybe have no budget, so have went for something low cost. Sequined mini dresses are very current at the moment. There is so many to choose from.

How is that more appropriate??

IMustDoMoreExercise · 23/11/2023 21:54

I think it is perfect for a Christmas party.

I really don't understand some of the negative comments.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 23/11/2023 22:08

I think it looks like you might be about to break into a rumba. However I don't think either of the poses are helping as they look quite "dancery". It's very sexy but I wouldn't say it is appropriate for black tie which to me is far more conservative.
hiwever I am a fat old middle aged woman so may be tinged with jealousy 😁

boudiccathecat · 23/11/2023 22:16

It’s fab, wear it

Frasers · 23/11/2023 22:20

InaBitofaHurry · 23/11/2023 21:54

How is that more appropriate??

Well I think she wants to flash some flesh, it’s more modern, and I mean general style rather than that one specifically, and doesn’t have a Debbie McGee doing strictly vibe to it 😄
