Is this dress okay for Christmas party? (With pics)

And if I like this, what other dresses would I like?

It's a black tie event, have been many years on the trip, quite an extravagant party with dinner and a big party. Flame throwers etc. people where dinner / cocktail dresses and some wear shorter dresses but nothing casual.

I love this dress, but not sure if it's Christmas party vibes.

What's everyone's thoughts? I'm so torn as I don't know where else I'd wear it and I absolutely love it.

Also open to suggestions please!

It's beautiful.

Wear it. A lot of MN people are Boden wearing middle aged women who look down on anything fun and revealing. It’s absolutely Christmas party suitable and it looks stunning on you.

Jealousy creeps in a lot on here.

That is foul. Come on, the OP is a young woman going to a party ! She doesn't want to be covered from neck to ankle.

what about this one @DysonArseWrap ? https://www.riverisland.com/p/grey-sequin-one-shoulder-shift-mini-dress-903237 not too pricy, a bit interesting, sparkly and sexy/fun without "showing all the goods"

I’m sorry but your suggestion is just as bad. It’s like a burlap sack with sequins 😂

Thank you! I do think it's Christmas party suitable too, I guess just not to everyone else's taste

Look how high the front is. You can nearly see underwear.

Sorry but that is a horrible dress.

Pickingmyselfup · 25/11/2023 11:44

I'm not a fan of it and I'm not sure it's black tie appropriate but black tie can mean different things to different people.

I spent ages last year searching for a dress for black tie and ended up spending a fortune on a floor length fishtail dress and others turned up in mini skirts! Really regret spending the money on something I will never wear again.

This year the same party is going ahead and I found a nice dress from New Look which will suit your event too and it's not too expensive..

It looks nice on, isn't frumpy or too out there.

39and · 25/11/2023 11:53

Can you tighten the straps? They look a bit loose/low. You are stunning and have the figure to pull it off. You will certainly impress. It's not to my taste and doesn't look "on trend" but it suits you.

TeamSleep · 25/11/2023 20:38

Yes, the advice above to tighten the straps is great, I think that’ll make such a difference and you look really lovely in that dress. Enjoy your party!

DoodlesMam · 25/11/2023 22:08

maybe try Mint Velvet's Mint collection. it's on a 20% off black friday deal this weekend. Lots of nice things. x You have nice skin, face and hair and a nice figure, so will find something fab.

Sunshineandchill · 25/11/2023 22:37

I think go for tightening the straps, it’s a lovely colour and I like the way it’s longer at the back. Maybe a nice necklace and a jacket too.

BrendaBicycle · 25/11/2023 22:42

I think it is a great dress and you look knock-out amazing

wannabetraveler · 25/11/2023 23:14

I just bought this for a work event (dinner with the Board and exec team); does something like this appeal? May be too conservative for you though.

fourelementary · 25/11/2023 23:23

Tighter straps and a better bra- or some kind of support there… and a blingy necklace! 🌲 🪩

PickAChew · 25/11/2023 23:24

It seems both too short and too low cut, at the same time.

PickAChew · 25/11/2023 23:39

Agree about tightening the straps. The more recent bodycon new look dress is fab for a figure like yours.

That anthropology dress is closer to something I'd wear as a saggy middle aged women but no way would I spend so much money on it.

Poorlittlebug · 26/11/2023 02:55

If it makes you feel any better about the comments OP, most of these repliers would have a breakdown clutching their pearls if they saw the mini dresses with no jacket I wear on the weekends 😂 by my standards, your dress is positively conservative 😁

CharlotteRumpling · 26/11/2023 04:10

It is a bit Strictly, but I honestly like it better than the other dresses suggested. But I am terrible with fancy dresses...

MissedItByThisMuch · 26/11/2023 06:15

FGS! OP is young and has a great figure and looks lovely in the dress. It’s Christmas party, and the dress code is “dress to impress” (why the fuck are people harping on about black tie?) That dress is perfectly appropriate for those circumstances.

Perfectly fine to wear OP.

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 26/11/2023 07:53

Dress to Impressis very different to Black Tie, You like it, you suit it, so just wear it OP.

LlynTegid · 26/11/2023 08:11

If you buy something else, do get something you can wear again and again.

CantThinkOfAUsername100 · 26/11/2023 08:16

Wear it. You look lovely in it 👍

cantbecaught · 26/11/2023 08:20

You look gorgeous in it and it's absolutely a Christmas party dress. You'll look back in 20 years and think, wow I looked amazing in that dress when I was young!! Wear it and enjoy the compliments. I do think a lot of people posting negative things have forgotten how it feels to be young and a bit flamboyant. You look great!
