Just curious as I'm 51 and they're still regular.

OP posts:

56, it’s bliss finally to be rid of them.

dick27 · 23/11/2023 15:26

54 and still going. Over 10 years ago I was told by my then GP that 52 was the average age for menopause. The practice nurse recently told me it's now 55.

Firefly2009 · 23/11/2023 15:43

I’m 46 and it’s been 6 months

So..,46 (probably)

My periods were completely normal until I had the Pfizer vaccine; then all of a sudden I had hot flushes, sweats, and started missing periods.

Just a coincidence, of course

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/11/2023 16:55

Wonder if any link when you start

I was 10.5. Still going strong at 50

Where are some friends (we all grew up together and still friends 40yrs on) didn't start till 15 (and got worries bless her) but she stopped periods - had menopause early 40's

A few months ago a consultant gynaecologist told me the average age is 51. Other doctors have assumed I must have stopped by 55 or 56 ‘you’ve had some vaginal bleeding?’ or ‘I’m assuming from your age…’

LonelyAndLostToo · 23/11/2023 17:37

48 i had a six month break, seems to be one every six months at the moment. I am 50 now. Just long enough to lure me into a false sense of security to a " oh i'm mentruating", dang nabbit

Same here. 50 flipping 6 I was!

Augustus40 · 23/11/2023 18:49

Oh and they started when I was age 11!

OnGoldenPond · 23/11/2023 18:58

I was 41 when my periods stopped abruptly never to be seen again. Though that turned out to be due to a brain tumour.

My DM was around 57 when hers finally stopped.

Had a natural early menopause 39 . I wasn't offered hrt and because the symptoms of it wasn't too bad , so therefore did not ask to go on them.
Sadly I now have clitoral atrophy ( it's basically shrivelled away to nothing ) and I'd hate to think what my bone density is like, so I kind of feel I was failed by my gp at the time who should have suggested I went on it .

Same with me, menopause at 41 and GP just said "nothing we can do for you, it's just nature".

After 10 years I requested a bone density scan and found had osteopenia. Only prescribed calcium tablets. Next scan two years later showed no improvement.

Finally managed to get on HRT (despite GP desperately trying to talk me out of it, saying "what will you say to your children when you get breast cancer?") and next scan showed normal density. But still apprehensive about what other damage all those years without hormones will have done.

The NICE guidelines now say women with early menopause (usually 40 or younger) should be actively encouraged to take HRT as a preventative measure so you would hope the same would not happen now. Though sadly I suspect nothing much has changed.

Wacadu · 23/11/2023 19:16
  1. Just stopped. My mum had early menopause too.
Keswick1967 · 23/11/2023 19:25

I’m 56 and had the mother of all periods in May last year, and spotting in November and December then nothing since, so all being well by December this year that will be my year without, yay.

DiaryofWimpy · 23/11/2023 19:38

45/46 then they came back for around 6 months then completely disappeared at 47.

TryingToTalkYourWayOutOfIt · 23/11/2023 19:41

6 months before I was 60. I had a horrendous 6 years before that - flooding (had to wear 5 pads at once and it still came through my clothes), periods lasting 2 weeks then starting again a week or 2 later. LOTS of tests, womb biopsies, hormone tablets. I was massively relieved when it all stopped.

52 and still having periods, but they are getting irregular and unpredictable. The joys!!

PurplePansy05 · 23/11/2023 19:47

Those of you whose periods stopped in late 30s, were they irregular beforehand? Any signs at all of perimenopause when you think back? I'm finding it worrying some of you say it happened out of the blue (I'm nearing late 30s and considering another DC).

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 23/11/2023 19:59

I'm 47 and have had about 3 periods max this year. The last one was about 3 months ago or maybe more so fingers crossed my uterus has hung up the closed sign for good

momtoboys · 23/11/2023 20:04

54

DragonflyLady · 23/11/2023 20:43

I’m 54 and had my last one in January. However, I have this feeling I’m about to have another one.

Fizzadora · 23/11/2023 20:50
  1. I had one after giving birth to my DS (only child) then had Mirena coil fitted. I think I was around 50 when I had it removed but never had another period. I'm 64 now so presume I have gone through the menopause.
confusedlots · 23/11/2023 20:59

I was 41 when mine stopped. Kept thinking I was just going through a stressful few months and they'd return, but they never did.

Mine stopped at 41 out of the blue. I think I had one or two lighter periods at the end but they were still regular, and then they just suddenly stopped.

Wherethewildthymeblows · 23/11/2023 21:04
  1. They were irregular for quite a few years beforehand though. In fact, I don't really recall them ever getting properly back to how they had been in my 20s before I had children. I spent nearly all my 30s either pregnant or breastfeeding, then probably had a few years (now forgotten) of regular periods before perimenopause started.

43, the same.
