I think you’ll find that Tories do know what a woman is. That’s why so many of them are being investigated by police.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/11/2023 18:07

Although they are equal opportunities enough that a lot of them are being investigated due sexual assault or sexual misconduct against men too.

pointythings · 27/11/2023 18:16

Compared to the state of the economy, infrastructure, the NHS, education, treatment of the disabled and refugees - damned right the trans stuff is a fringe issue. I get so tired of the hysteria about how women won't have any rights under Labour. It's bullshit.

jgw1 · 27/11/2023 18:41

BIossomtoes · 27/11/2023 16:09

Terrified. They’re still using the “know what a woman is” line but central office has now given them a new one so “Labour has no vision” has been added. Anyone know what the Tories’ vision is?

The Tory vision is a utopia where they and their rich mates have even more money that they don't need and couldn't possibly useful spend in many lifetimes and the rest of us scrap over which minority is to blame this week.

tobee · 27/11/2023 18:46

Anyone think the upcoming GE campaign might be a bit dirty? I give you this shared from The Byline Times:-

Could Isaac Levido Return the Conservatives to Power Again Against All the Odds?

(Might be behind paywall 😬)

I feel like actually they've now switched onto asylum seekers, based on the recent threads on here. Coming over here, using all the council money so services are dire...

The Conservatives/Sunak have lost the plot though. This made me laugh at the weekend:
"The question for people who care about tackling migration, who want to get our taxes down, who think we need to have more common sense in our discourse is: do you want Keir Starmer or me [Sunak] to be your Prime Minister?'"
Run out of ideas, trying But Corbyn Starmer for size. Not sure the answer is the one he wants it to be.

Notonthestairs · 27/11/2023 19:00

@tobee yes. They seem quite proud of that sort of campaign-

But the main thrust of the social media ‘battle of the thumbs’ was to put out a constant stream of so-called ‘boomer memes’, also produced by Topham Guerin, with two aims: to hammer home Johnson’s “Get Brexit Done” slogan and to denigrate Jeremy Corbyn.
The independent fact-checking service Full Fact foundd that 88% of the Facebook ads posted by the Conservative campaign in the first four days of December 2019 were misleading. d in 2019, Levido said he was “quite proud” of the digital campaign, which he described as “disruptive” and “edgy”.

88% of ads misleading! - that must be giving Trump a run for his money.

It’s an interesting line of attack when you are the sitting PM.

https://www.theguardian.com/inequality/2023/nov/27/uk-spends-more-financing-inequality-in-favour-of-rich-than-rest-of-europe-report-finds

In inequality news…

The richest 1% in the U.K. pay the lowest taxes of any large country in Europeand the U.K. is now the second most unequal rich country behind the U.S. Not that this government are going to do anything about that.

They did do something about it - they set it up this way because it benefits them. Angry

How do you call someone a liar in Parliament when you are not allowed to call them a liar?

Points of Order - Hansard - UK Parliament

At one point, it seems like he is going to ask the Labour MP to step outside, The language is very Shakespearian.

"Further to that point of order, Madam Deputy Speaker. For the avoidance of doubt, the hon. Member for Stockton North (Alex Cunningham) accused me of making derogatory remarks about his constituency. My response, issued through my office, was that I did not, would not and would never make such comments about his constituency. What I said was a comment about him. My apology was for using unparliamentary language, but I will make it absolutely clear, for the avoidance of doubt and with no ambiguity, that I did not, would not—
Alex Cunningham
You did.
James Cleverly
What are you calling me, sir?

Did anyone see Martin Lewis on The Last Leg this weekend? He said that the new policy to force people back to work includes a new definition of mental health disability. Once it comes into force new claimants with mental health problems will only be eligible for disability benefits if they are in 'active crisis' or psychosis. There's going to be a lot of mentally ill people thrown under the bus.

DuncinToffee · 27/11/2023 21:14

I watched it MrTiddles, was a bit awkward for Adam Hills after he said he was reassured by Mordaunt's DM (I think it was Mordaunt)

How unlike Sunak to be petty.

Mordaunt was accused of misleading the Commons over PIP in 2016-17 when she was Minister for Disabled People. Hundreds of thousands of people were getting shafted and she was her usual duplicitous self.

Why the fuck would Adam Hills believe a word she says? Because she's pretty?

Oh my god, that is terrible. Labour MUST reassure people that these proposals will be dumped. I am seeing so many people on social media who are terrified already.

It’s an interesting line of attack when you are the sitting PM.

I can’t ever remember when an incumbent leader was campaigning so enthusiastically for change.

I hope he gets what he’s asking.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/11/2023 22:32

This Tory government hate mental health disabilities. If they can find away to get rid of an entitlement they will and think everything can be patched up with a bit of IAPT.

I’m financially worse off after ditching the disability element of the tax credits but it’s much less stressful. And definitely less stressful that UC.

It’s nearly as funny as when he threatened everyone with calling a general election if the Rwanda thing didn’t work out the other week.

pointythings · 27/11/2023 15:40

If we're getting invaded by 'representatives' the Tories must be running really scared.

I have noticed some threads recently that I am sure are covertly designed to explore which issues might cause the most froth amongst the Tory inclined. Often started by new or newly name changed posters.

Maybe my tin foil hat is too tight, but I reckon there will be a Spring GE.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/11/2023 22:56

Spring GE tens to go better for Tories than autumn winter ones don’t they? So it makes sense that’s what they’d aim for. I think it might take a bit more than nice weather to mobilise their typical voters tbh.

How ridiculous. They are already discussing a potential loan arrangement. All he had to say was that he would leave it in the hands of the Board of the BM. Greece is an ally isn't it?

Smacks of an attempt to look tough.

BIossomtoes · 27/11/2023 23:10

I’ve been predicting May for months. Sunak can’t afford yet another appalling set of local election results before he goes to the country. I reckon the 2nd or the 9th.
