I read on Twitter that someone who lives in the area said in the last 29 minutes there has been a sudden influx of police and ambulance. Hope they have been found

Oh I hope this is right!
(but you never can tell with twitter)

"I keep refreshing the news for an update"

"My gut feeling is that they've had a terrible accident in the car"

"Feel sick"

"What a nightmare"

"this is making me think back to the missing car with teenagers a few months back, which had careered off the road into bushes. It doesn't sound good."

"The longer they are missing - well I cannot imagine"

"I realised it looks bad as they haven't been seen since Sunday but sometimes unlikely things do happen, look at those kids found alive in the Amazon after 40 days having survived a plane crash"

Absolutely pointless catastrophising.

I'm not sure why you feel it's necessary to quote people and comment on their words in a scornful way tbh. Imagine wading in and trying to police how people respond to a worrying news story... bizarre. I do feel sick at the thought of how worried their families must be - and I'll never be sorry for my empathy or compassion.

Not necessarily. If you look at Google Street View from Shrewsbury to Porthmadog, there's quite a few sections where you can see junctions where the road joins with forest tracks. They could have driven down one of those to wild camp.

Would you do a forest track with a fiesta though, they’re not in a 4X4. And there should be last traced mobile phone signal, if they’ve turned into a track the general area should be apparent.

cheezncrackers · 21/11/2023 11:56

Yes, that's true about the last cell phone mast that the phones connected to. Hopefully this information is available to the emergency services to help them narrow down their search.

ifonly4 · 21/11/2023 11:56

Absolutely pointless catastrophising - I think most of us can associate with what their families are feeling and going through so want to discuss. Others want to raise awareness as that's all they can do to help. I don't think that's catastrophising.

hogangogs · 21/11/2023 11:56

they’ve located the car - NWP on FB.

🤞🏼 I do hope they’re all ok.

Flickersy · 21/11/2023 11:57

I hope they are found safe and well, but the posters who mention the drug issues in the area are correct. The sad fact is the balance of probabilities is weighted towards four young lads enjoying a weekend of freedom, potentially drunk or high, driving like they're invincible - as many do when they're young and newly allowed on the roads - and coming unstuck on the mountain roads.

But just because that's probable doesn't make it definite. There is certainly a chance they've wandered off and got lost, and they have nothing more than a good story to show for it. But four 17 year olds on their own with a car and inexperienced driver in the mountains after telling their parents they were elsewhere and all dropping out of contact simultaneously is not normally a recipe for a happy ending.

I wouldn’t in my small car, especially given the state of most of Wales at the moment (knee deep in mud). But teenage boys are poor at risk perception which I understand is due to how their brains work.

At least the weather is better at the moment for a search. Keeping everything crossed for them.

Crashed or parked?

They might not have gone far along the a track - just pulled off the road (or even into a layby) and be under trees.

It's only today that the public have asked to look out for a silver Fiesta, so before this morning no-one would have known to report that they'd seen one somewhere unusual.

Crashed or parked?

It just says they've located it after info from a member of the public but 'police and other emergency services are on the scene'.

CormorantStrikesBack · 21/11/2023 11:58

Crashed or parked?

This is the message:

Following information from a member of the public, Officers searching for four missing teenagers in the Porthmadog area have located the vehicle they were travelling in.
Police officers and colleagues from other emergency services are currently at the location and the families of those involved have been kept updated.
Further information will be released when available.

StardustGiraffe · 21/11/2023 11:59

Sorry "at the location", not on the scene!

hogangogs · 21/11/2023 11:59

they don’t say. i could guess from their post but i don’t want to.

(sorry, cross posted)

Indeed. There's always one isn't there.

This is headline news. People are understandably hoping for good news but given the circumstances it's natural to worry about what could have happened.

LubaLuca · 21/11/2023 12:00

It could be good news, they can only be so far from the car.

Pinkdelight3 · 21/11/2023 12:00

They would have said if they’d found the boys in car, so that’s good news.

The tracks I saw on street view were perfectly driveable in a Fiesta. Flat with gravel surface. Anyway, the car, at least, has been found.

Pinkdelight3 · 21/11/2023 12:01

Thanks!

ifonly4 · 21/11/2023 12:02

Flight radar shows a heavy helicopter presence around their home town, so authorities must think there's also a strong possibility they're near home, unless there's something else going on in that area.

pontipinemum · 21/11/2023 12:02

Oh God I really hope they are ok. I cannot imagine how scare they must be if they are stuck somewhere and how frantic their parents/ families are
