Thank God you posted the BBC article to replace the Mail one... us feeble minded types refuse to worry about 4 lost teenagers when it's reported by the Mail. But now we can read the BBC article in our safe spaces we can now worry!

Well given the Mail has posted two very different versions (first saying they're experienced and have equipment and then the opposite), it could hardly be considered the most reliable.

There's actually two DM articles. The first one I saw does say they are 'experienced campers'

Police launch urgent hunt for missing camping trip teens: Four young men haven't been seen since getting into a Ford Fiesta in North Wales on Sunday morning leaving their families 'worried sick' | Daily Mail Online

They are believed to be experienced campers and had equipment with them, but the lack of contact was said to be out of character and friends said their families are 'worried sick'

Vs: Four teenagers missing in North Wales 'are not experienced campers and just had a tent and sleeping bags' - as police continue urgent hunt for youngsters last seen getting into a Ford Fiesta and heading to Snowdonia | Daily Mail Online

Four teenagers who are missing in North Wales are 'are not experienced campers' and only had basic equipment with them, the mother of one of the boy's girlfriends has revealed

Typical Daily Mail getting it all muddled up 😩

LoveThisDog · 21/11/2023 10:25

One of their mothers has commented on a Facebook post saying they lied about where they were/were going, hence the delay in flagging them as missing, and that there is no phone reception in that part of Wales. Hopefully they are camping safely out of signal and will be picked up safely.

Crumpetdisappointment · 21/11/2023 10:26

they know the registration number - whose car was it?
they look so young

TheUsualChaos · 21/11/2023 10:28

It's not sounding good is it. Their poor families.

What are the roads like in that area? It's odd that all their phones are out. My gut feeling is that they've had a terrible accident in the car but there is still hope they could be sheltering somewhere and found alive. Really hope they are found before dark today 😥

TokyoSushi · 21/11/2023 10:29

Hope that they're found quickly, what a worry for everybody.

ThreeRingCircus · 21/11/2023 10:30

This does not sound good at all. Praying for a good outcome and that they were planning on being AWOL for a bit if they lied about where they were going.

yarnwitch · 21/11/2023 10:33

Really really hoping they are just lost somewhere without phone signal. I have a son around this age and I can't imagine what their families are going through.

Stop it. Does it really matter?

They look so young. Hoping for a positive outcome.

TheAbsurd · 21/11/2023 10:35

It’s possible they don’t have a phone signal but it is unusual the car has not been discovered after a search.

Crumpetdisappointment · 21/11/2023 10:37

very worrying

There are large parts of the area that are unpopulated hilly uplands with no/patchy mobile phone signals. Batteries also don't last as long when the signal is weak or the weather is cold so it's not that unsurprising that their phones can't be contacted after a couple of days.

There's hundreds of miles of roads to be searched, if they're even still in Snowdonia. If they've parked somewhere secluded and gone off on foot, it could take a while to find them, especially given the limited daylight and poor weather probably meaning not many other walkers will be out and about.

RoseAndRose · 21/11/2023 10:41

Cars are quite big to spot from the air, unless under trees, and SKY has been reporting that there are helicopters up looking for them.

Really hoping they are stranded for some reason and are found soon

youdontneedtopoo · 21/11/2023 10:41

I don't mean this rudely but is it a normal time of year to camp in that area? November seems late in the year with the weather but I'm not experienced at all. Are there shelters/huts or proper trails they could be using if they're experienced?

skyeisthelimit · 21/11/2023 10:44

my first thought was that car accident in Wales as well.

The first article I read said that they were experienced campers, but I can see that it was recently updated to say that they were not experienced :(

I hope they all turn up safely, it is very odd for 4 people to go missing at the same time.

The police will be able to see where their phones last picked up a signal so will hopefully have some idea of where to search.

Let's hope that they find them soon.

Lavinia56 · 21/11/2023 10:46

I hope they are found quickly. A total nightmare for the parents.

RudsyFarmer · 21/11/2023 10:46

The police will be trying to track their last movements via their phones. The concern for me would be coming off the road and being trapped in the car. Hopefully they are retracing their car journey as we speak.

alrighthen · 21/11/2023 10:47

Fingers crossed for their safe and speedy return

Of course - but in areas with lots of areas with no reception, this might not give a reliable lead. But here's hoping

Whodhaveem · 21/11/2023 10:55

Just read on another forum that apparently the car has been fitted with a black tracking box for insurance purposes.

They obviously couldn’t contact the insurance company over last night when the alarms were 1st raised so that should be on going this morning and imagine once they do the car will be tracked very quickly.

Really hope it’s a good ending.

grass67 · 21/11/2023 10:59

@youdontneedtopoo Lots of people camp in winter (myself included) but unless they have made it to a campsite, I'm guessing they are wild camping. Therefore carrying all their gear. It's not going to be easy to keep warm without good quality equipment. Not sure how cold Wales is at night? It's astonishing that so many hike without proper equipment, let alone camp. The weather can turn so fast, it can be very dangerous.
I really hope they are safe.

Crumpetdisappointment · 21/11/2023 11:02

i know someone who walked up snowdonia in november and a colleague also did the same thing quite recently.
seems foolhardy

MaliciaKeys · 21/11/2023 11:05

These boys have gone missing near where I live. There are camping barns and shelters and if their mobile phones are out of battery, then hopefully they are all okay and completely unaware of the worry they are causing.

TheUsualChaos · 21/11/2023 11:05

It's a terrible time of year to camp. Short hours of daylight, unpredictable weather and plummeting temps at night. Really not something you would want to do unless have decent kit and plans in place for if things go wrong. As said up thread seems to be conflicting reports on how well prepared they were likely to have been.
