It's hard to understand how it was so far off the road that it wasn't spotted for two days but unfortunately I think that's what must have happened

I can fully imagine it in a remote place. Looking at the map of that road there are a few houses around, so it could very well be that someone local has either taken their dog out for a walk today and discovered the car, or heard about a missing car today and remembered hearing a strange noise at the weekend so went out to look.

I'm an optimist normally, but this doesn't sound promising. I pray that I'm wrong though.

SheIsStuck23 · 21/11/2023 15:51

I fear we are going to be told the worst.
But until that time comes I will hold on to any hope of any other outcome.

confusedlots · 21/11/2023 15:51

I find the wording on bbc news a bit strange. It says no questions will be taken today. Makes it sound a bit like they are expecting there will be further statements coming on another day?

Unless this came from a reputable and confirmed source, please do not post conspiracy theories like this.

If the boys aren't in the car I guess there's still hope they'll be found. I thought I saw mountain rescue has just left but surely they would stay and help search? Unless they're just changing shifts perhaps

It’s getting dark, so they’re likely to come off about now and resume at first light.

That ex-copper is also a mountain rescue trustee, so might be well informed. So there may still be hope

update from police expected at 4:30pm

Okay mumsnet police.

They were right, your post was incredibly inappropriate. This isn't a story, this is happening to real people!

heldinadream · 21/11/2023 15:56

Yekaterinap · 21/11/2023 15:54

Okay mumsnet police.

It's a totally reasonable request, otherwise anybody could post anything and the speculation could be wild and totally unfounded.

NoraBattysCurlers · 21/11/2023 15:58

I think it's a bit inappropriate of one of their girlfriend's parents even speaking to the media.

I agree. Unfortunately, some cannot resist their opportunity for fifteen minutes of fame.

I was just thinking the same. Praying all hope is not lost.

I’ve only read a few posts and there’s a lot of inappropriate stuff here. What the fuck is wrong with them? Full of ‘concern’ but seem almost excited. It’s sickening. I bet they’re all hoping to be first to update. Nicola Bulley, the boys on the ice, the submarine, they attract the same type of poster with their speculation and need to be part of it.

WaitingImpatiently74 · 21/11/2023 16:02

Please stop guessing. One of the boys is related to me and people guessing what is/has happened is rather unpleasant and unnecessary. The aim of this thread was to raise awareness not to speculate.

You don't understand the pressure the media put on families and friends to give statements.

Many years ago our family was involved in a missing person story. Random neighbours and elderly relatives found news crews outside their door, it was relentless. A happy ending in our case, but the process was brutal.

I’m so sorry for you and your family, this situation must be heartbreaking for you Flowers

Actually a totally reasonable request… how does speculation like that do anything but cause more harm to their
families/friends who could read it

I came back to respond to say this was exactly why I thought spreading conspiracy theories was inappropriate, incase family were on here amongst other reasoning.

I'm very sorry for all you are going through the minute. It's everybody's worst nightmare and the boys, yourself and those who love them are in my thoughts.

In situations like this I think some people can't distinguish reality and fiction. Maybe MN needs to consider if this sort of thread is appropriate, obviously people may be discussing it in person but t'internet does allow too much speculation.

Cincinnatus · 21/11/2023 16:08

What a truly harrowing situation. Feel for everyone involved.

CharlotteRose90 · 21/11/2023 16:08

Let’s all wait for the press conference so we have the answers. I’m holding out hope but I fear the worst and my thoughts are with the family and friends of the boys.

TickingTocking · 21/11/2023 16:10

They don’t care, they let a poster post 10 threads about NB, full of speculation. It’s all traffic for them and there’s plenty of sickos to oblige.

SerpentEndBench · 21/11/2023 16:10

It is a dreadful situation, the poor families, and friends too, I feel for them.
