What pathetic comments which always come up on threads like this.

It’s all over the bloody news. Should people just read national news without commenting or discussing it with anyone else according to your tiny minds?

In general, people are worried and desperately hope that situations like this turn out well and want to talk about it with someone.

It starts out like this but always ends up descending into judgemental finger pointing and wild speculation. If people stopped that, I would agree with everything you had said.

Yes, very surprised none of these lads thought to take a charge bank

They're in 6th form, so practically adults, not some 8 year olds

Considering none of us know what happened and whether they had a charge bank or not and are in a position where they cannot use it, it is likely posts like that to which the pp’s are referring.

Dartmoorcheffy · 21/11/2023 14:34

Absolutely dreadful for their poor families.

Yes, very surprised none of these lads thought to take a charge bank.

I hope they took bottles of water too.
And a flint or matches to light a fire.

They're in 6th form, so practically adults, not some 8 year olds.

But sadly, I think this trip was a spur of the moment idea, and had no planning at all.

Are you a parent to a a sixth form boy? I am an IME spontaneity and impulsiveness are very typical.

Missing the point. Big difference between discussion of a new item and frothing at the mouth ghoulish speculation.

I haven't seen a lot of frothing at the mouth ghoulishness. I'm the first to call that out.

This is just a very difficult story which unfortunately is probably not going to have a good outcome.

If they'd planned on camping for more than 24 hours, I'm surprised one of them hasn't taken a power pack - most teens are glued to their phones and wouldn't want to risk being without power. We've stayed very close to location a couple of times and the signal is much better than many other locations we've been to. DD regularly stayed to the east of location and never had a problem contacting us.

Really hoping they're found safe.

To be fair they might have powerbanks but not been able to use them.

Speculation over ongoing court cases isn't allowed for very good reasons as it can compromise a trial. This isn't a trial of course, just pointing that out.

Edited

This isn't an ongoing court case
These comments happen on posts that are not ongoing court cases all the time.
People are allowed to talk about it

Yes I know, I literally said that. And I haven't said people aren't allowed to talk about it.

You edited your post. I read it and replied to what you wrote prior to that.

Surely if people think it's inappropriate to be discussing this then don't click on the thread? It's pretty clear from the title what people will be talking about.

Could not agree more. Clicking on the thread, even if it's just to type out a short comment calling other posters ghouls and looking down on them, will push this thread further up Google searches. As some posters are concerned that the boys' parents may come across this thread and have time to read it (unlikely, but sake of argument) then their best bet would be to avoid clicking on the thread, and defo to avoid making any supercilious comments which will have the effect of increasing traffic.

Lottie4 · 21/11/2023 14:37

You're quite right re: power packs. I didn't get that across, if what I meant to say if they were able to use their phones, I can't believe one of them hasn't used them.

OhmygodDont · 21/11/2023 14:38

Power banks can also loose charge bloody fast when it’s cold so if they have them or not don’t mean they will be working.

The sun (updated 14:26) says the car was found but no sign of the boys.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/24801189/desperate-hunt-four-teens-wales-camping-trip/

Is this true though? Is anyone else reporting it? Or is the Sun reporter misinterpreting the information that's publicly available? I mean I hope it is true

TokyoSushi · 21/11/2023 14:39

Good grief, let's stop bickering about whether or not we're allowed to discuss. It's the top news story in the country, of course people will want to talk about it. I don't think anybody has said anything on here that the police/family won't already have thought of.

I think this is a situation where a lot of us have teenage boys. We know they can do silly things and we're all just really hoping that they're home in a warm bed with nothing worse than a telling off soon enough.

Quite
My son is no longer a teen and he still makes some really silly decisions. He went 'hiking' a few weeks back in jeans and converse and 'forgot' that it now goes dark earlier, so he had to find his way back in the dark.
Luckily, it was a hill, not a mountain, and phones still worked.

BBC - although source and reporting a nit confusing

I think the reporter has probably misinterpreted as the only existing police statements don't mention the boys at all.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 21/11/2023 14:41

'Ghoulish speculation' or is it rather that terrible feeling that we are all diminished in the hurting of any child? Is this not part of being human?

BBC has just added a quote from 'Gareth Pritchard, former deputy chief constable of North Wales Police and trustee of the Ogwen Montain Rescue Team charity, says locating the teenagers is the biggest challenge facing the emergency services' which sounds like they're still looking for them, ie they weren't in the car.

SeasonalWitch · 21/11/2023 14:41

@GinAndJuice99 Who knows, but it says North Wales Police have confirmed.

Four teens lost in North Wales ⚠️
Dartmoorcheffy · 21/11/2023 14:42

Unfortunately the wording that the car "has been recovered " would indicate its not good news to me. Terrible.:(

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 21/11/2023 14:42

It is stated by the police that the search for the boys will be challenging. They are obviously not with the car

Scrap that its an ex police commenting

VivaDixie · 21/11/2023 14:43

From the BBC

Gareth Pritchard, former deputy chief constable of North Wales Police and trustee of the Ogwen Montain Rescue Team charity, says locating the teenagers is the biggest challenge facing the emergency services.
Speaking on BBC Radio Cymru's Dros Ginio programme, he said: "It is such a vast area and not knowing the route of the teenagers will make it even more challenging and will take a lot of time."
He says the community's knowledge and help is essential in the attempts to locate the the teenagers.

OK if i am allowed to post this - As the DM of a teenage boy I am hoping and praying that these boys went off walking, got lost and are hunkering down in a barn somewhere keeping warm. I am hoping that the air ambulance left because there was no sign of the boys - forensics are there to help trace the boys. It is highly likely that their phones are out because there is no signal.

Like everyone here I am just hoping for a positive outcome to this.

cheezncrackers · 21/11/2023 14:44

Praying they're found safe and well 🙏
