How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

How so? Someone sniped that Cliff drinks his own urine. I said, so does Madonna.

What's difficult to comprehend here??

I think Bowie went through a phase of that too.

He reminds me of a leathery old tortoise.

😂😂😂

Americano75 · 20/11/2023 17:03

Goodness, you'd think someone like cliff would know there's far worse things to be in life than overweight.

I'm sure he and Elvis would have got along famously too, they had plenty in common.

CR used to churn out a 'christmassy' song every year and top the charts - it was the bbc that banned him from the chart playlist and stopped that particular bit of exploitation.

They did it because of deciding he was too 'old' as they tried to move R2 to a younger demographic.

So thousands of us have left R2

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 20/11/2023 17:03

NannyOgg, I'm 54. Grew up listening to him but wasn't a fan. I'm not surprised nor saddened because he's not a 'together' person. Someone who is doesn't need to denigrate somebody who has come to do an interview with them. There's no excuse for that; none whatsoever.

He did do one song that I like 'She Means Nothing To Me', but, he's very forgettable and for me, that's because he looks down on other people when he really has no call to do that.

Things that are ok according to this thread:

  • Ageism
  • Veiled homophobia
  • Criticising Cliff Richards for being too thin at 80
  • A man who had a relationship with a 14 year old
  • Having a feeling that someone is a sex offender based on not liking his music or appearance

Things that are not ok according to this thread:

  • Criticising Elvis for being fat at 40
  • A man who who was subject to potentially malicious allegations and whose house was raided and brought forth no evidence

I don’t like Cliff Richards’ music (not fussed about Elvis either), and maybe he could have been nicer in that interview. But some people are showing their true selves on this thread and it isn’t pretty. Oh sorry, did I just pretty shame someone? It’s ok, she’s only an old biddy.

Some of the comments on this thread are eyewateringly atrocious.

Cliff was a megastar back when he first became famous, was considered to be a heartthrob and subject to idolisation by his young, probably mainly female, fans. His music was of its time. I never was a fan but it was listenable-to.

I'm sure he has really, really struggled with the ageing process. He does and did have a certain level of vanity but that went with the territory.

He's a similar age to the likes of Blondie and Tom Jones. I don't see them attracting the viciousness shown towards CR. TJ (whom I love as a singer, still has it!) was a massive womaniser, serially unfaithful to his wife.

Tom was mates with Elvis too!

Engagebrain · 20/11/2023 17:04

Perhaps A.H. didn't take any offence but when she sees this thread she'll think she should have?!

Scruffington · 20/11/2023 17:04

The actress Sarah Miles was a fan of drinking her own wee. Drank it for decades apparently. Which is nice.

He's not alone in that!

No he isn't and if Labour get in then there will be many more people doing the same thing.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 20/11/2023 17:05

Maybe Blondie and Tom Jones had more about them than to allow such unprofessionalism? Had PR people willing to shush/gaffa tape their gobs shut? Or perhaps they just kept their thoughts to themselves and got on with their jobs.

SweetBirdsong · 20/11/2023 17:06

What a thoroughly nasty thread. Shame on some of the people on here and the comments they are posting. Hmm

I don't think people should be too hard on him, with what was said on This Morning (plus it didn't happen the way the OP is saying it did anyway...)

Also, the reason people should not be too hard on him with the 'weight' thing - is because he was called out for being chubby when he was young (in the 1960s) even though he wasn't. Some character on Coronation Street said 'I like that Cliff Richard, he's a cute chubby lad.

Cliff was really upset, and started to become obsessed with being thin. He has periods of only eating 500 to 800 calories a day, and only has one meal, to make sure he maintains his 'svelte' figure.

I saw the show today, and I don't think he meant anything bad. He is just a bit food obsessed, and obsessed with staying healthy and 'svelte.' No way was he digging at Alison. That's a bit of a reach @Almost40andprobablynotfabulous

There are some really unpleasant and rude comments about Cliff on here. As for blaming him because some seamstress was obsessed with him, and the pictures of him traumatised her child WTF?! @AmyDudley ? 😆 Some people are reaching for the stars and beyond to try and find something to attack him for. I think it's disgusting, and I am not even a big fan of his.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/11/2023 17:06

Drinking your own urine is difficult to comprehend, regardless of who's doing it.

Do they drink it warm or refrigerate it first? Do they drink all their pee or just a certain amount.
1st pee in the morning, or last one at night?

So many questions.Confused

BeverForget · 20/11/2023 17:07

Tom never mentions that...

AlecTrevelyan006 · 20/11/2023 17:07

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/11/2023 16:33

I will never forgive him for penning a verse with lines ending in ‘time’, ‘wine’ and ‘rhyme’. Really grates.

How about????

A time for giving, a time for getting
A time for forgiving, and for forgetting

Genius!!!

You brought it up ffs!!!

Tell that to Cliff's record label.

And talking of records, for the record, I think Madonna is way more embarrassing these days than Cliff Richard. I grew up listening to her music and was a fan back in the day - not now though.

Is Cher creepy too??

^ this!

The amount of sheer ignorance on display too!

Nanny0gg · 20/11/2023 17:12

I'm not a huge fan of some of his lyrics

But please do point me in the direction of any of today's top 10 that have lyrics you'll remember in 10 years' time or that are remotely poetic

funbags3 · 20/11/2023 17:15

I can't think of one song of his that has stood the test of time.

Oh for God's sake grow up and get a grip - I was clearly being flippant, my DD was 25 and not remotely traumatised I used an exaggeration for humorous effect - you are at liberty to not find me amusing but don't get all ridiculous and make out I am accusing Cliff off traumatising my DD - could you be any sillier ? I am hardly attacking Sir Cliff in that anecdote - but it does illustrate (as do many posts on this thread) just how rabid and strange some of Cliff's fan are.

I stick by my comment on his mummified appearance - he is happy to comment on others appearance, I will pay him the compliment of embracing his bitchiness. I do apologise for the Cassowary remark though - I may have offended some cassowaries which I would hate to do as they are very cool birds and don't drink their own piss.

threecupsofteaminimum · 20/11/2023 17:18

😭😩 he is a nasty weird mummified pseudo-virgin

With his hair I don't know he he can talk about anyone else's appearance the daft old prat.

Depends.

There are a few of his that I really like, but then I grew up listening to them and my sister was a huge fan.
I went to see him in Panto every year (all the 'big' stars did Panto) and a couple of concerts (a friend of mine who really wasn't keen was very impressed as he really was an entertainer)

He is absolutely not for today's market but his first hits, Move It and Livin' Doll, were revolutionary when they came out.
