How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

😭😩 he is a nasty weird mummified pseudo-virgin

With his hair I don't know he he can talk about anyone else's appearance the daft old prat.

I think you can tell by his sour face he drinks his own piss

funbags3 · 20/11/2023 17:23

@Nanny0gg That's what I mean. Living Doll is definitely of its time. When this generation of fans is gone, I doubt any of his music will make a comeback.

No idea why he's so revered. His music's dire.

Wired For Sound and Carrie are good. That's it.

Mistletoe and Wine gets turned off when it comes on at Christmas.

You brought it up ffs!!!

Tell that to Cliff's record label.

And talking of records, for the record, I think Madonna is way more embarrassing these days than Cliff Richard. I grew up listening to her music and was a fan back in the day - not now though.

Is Cher creepy too??

What the flip does Cher have to do with this? This thread is bonkers. And for those in doubt it's about Cliff Richard, not Cher or Madonna.

threecupsofteaminimum · 20/11/2023 17:25

I'm not having Joan Collins bought into this though. She's brilliant.

But as it was revolutionary for its time it won't be forgotten, It came out in 1959, just as they invented teenagers, pre-Beatles.
So it is part of music history

I'm not a huge fan of some of his lyrics

But please do point me in the direction of any of today's top 10 that have lyrics you'll remember in 10 years' time or that are remotely poetic

I do like that Taylor Swift uses some quite long words in her lyrics...

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 20/11/2023 17:29

Meow cliff. No need to be so catty

porridgeisbae · 20/11/2023 17:29

I can't think of one song of his that has stood the test of time.

Devil woman

Can you really not comprehend the point?

Cher is of a similar age. Also had lots of work done. Also paranoid about keeping her body youthful...

Don't see anyone making nasty comments about her?

funbags3 · 20/11/2023 17:32

@Nanny0gg It may very well be a well-formed pop song but it's hardly revolutionary.

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 20/11/2023 17:33

This thread is quite an eye opener! Who knew Cliff had such rabid bots fans!

He really is a case of none so blind as those who refuse to see. You get a few people in the public eye like this. I think it's people who have personal experience of "creepiness" (as it's being politely called on this thread) who have the radar. I just can't understand why people get so defensive!

Nonsense! It was at the time!

I think some people need to check out the history of popular music tbh.

That's. Because. It's. A. Thread. About. Cliff. Richard. 🙄

Thoughtless git. I didn’t see it but it doesn’t even sound like an interesting anecdote. Just an opportunity to be an offensive twat. He’s obsessed with his ‘Peter Pan’ image and his boyish figure (<gag> sorry) is part of that, so he has an internalised terror of weight gain and the idea of anyone being fat and happy is anathema to him.

I don't think Presley was fat and happy. He was obese because of addiction issues and an eating disorder.

porridgeisbae · 20/11/2023 17:36

They probably would, we're equal opportunities here. Smile But Cher can pull it off, she must have an excellent surgeon.

Cliff looks ok- not overly fake. Madonna...bless her.

I am far from a "rabid fan".

I am however a rabid fan of fairness, and some of the comments here are both ill-informed and unfair.

Yet when I bring up famous singers of a similar vintage, posters try to shut them down as irrelevant!

I don't think Cliff Richard is any 'creepier' than any other singer of his vintage. How dare a male singer get old??!!

That's because this is a thread about Cliff.
If it was a thread about Cher people would be unpleasant about her too.

funbags3 · 20/11/2023 17:37

@Treesinmygarden Why was revolutionary?
Not trying to have a dig, just curious. I know McCartney liked it and The Young Ones covered it I can't imagine it'll be remembered fondly by the next generations.

Sooo, one can't compare other singers around his age with Cliff Richard, because the thread is about Cliff Richard??

Right...
