How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

@porridgeisbae he sniped that his book only reached number 2 because number one was a book written by "a veterinarian" and then he face palmed. Just sounded bitchy!

Cliff's a wrong 'un.

Yes, he lives abroad for tax purposes eventhough without the UK he would be a nobody.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 20/11/2023 16:48

I love Alison Hammond and Dermot on TM.

I also like Josie. Really don't like Cat and the Irish guy.

AllAroundMyCat · 20/11/2023 16:48

@Roussette

I'm with you. I know what you're saying.
Been waiting nearly forty years .

I'll keep waiting.

porridgeisbae · 20/11/2023 16:50

@SpeculatingRooks Sounds like he's not on the same page as most people, as his life is presumably so different. He maybe has Yes-men bigging him up often.

People love animals- so what? And most people are overweight.

Treesinmygarden · 20/11/2023 16:50

Roussette · 20/11/2023 15:55

As I said... for me, it's not just 'a feeling' but I shall say no more

Either 'put up or shut up'!!

I can't stand the vague insinuations.

You could literally make them about anyone!!

At least the older generations have some actual bloody commonsense!!!!

Did you ever hear a more ridiculous comment than "old biddies don't like the Rolling Stones"??? I am sick to death of the ageism displayed repeatedly on this page. Listen all ye patronising youngsters, you too will be old one day, if you're fortunate enough. Maybe by then you will have learned that a person's age does not define them.

If some people had brains, they'd be taxed.

The irony! If you don't like ageism then stop making similar comments yourself.

I’m risking outing myself here but this same thing happened to me last week. I was at an evening class and the conversation was about health. The teacher kept saying that the worst fear she had about a recent health scare was that she might put on weight due to the drugs she would need to take. How that fear was worse than the illness itself. Everyone laughed and agreed. And there I sat. Big fat bastard. Everyone else slim. Fortunately for me my self esteem is on the floor already so no harm done.

@Sunday12 That was so insensitive of her, talk about not reading the room.
If she’s a teacher in health related issues she needs pulling up on her lack of tact. I can think of worse side effects than weight gain.

fearfuloffluff · 20/11/2023 15:59

Re old biddies, I didn't mean anyone over a certain age. I meant women over a certain age who like their music safe and sexless. Daniel O'Donnell and Max Bygraves sort of singalongs.

I've got a few of said old biddies in my family, nothing wrong with it, takes all sorts and so on. I guess they're all 90 or over so maybe it's a dying breed!

What the hell are you on about?? Max Bygraves???!!! Daniel O'Donnell??

I think you need to get out more dear.

Justleaveitblankthen · 20/11/2023 16:53

I will never forgive him for penning a verse with lines ending in ‘time’, ‘wine’ and ‘rhyme’. Really grates.

Remember when he released the Lords Prayer as a song Confused

I saw an interview with Cliff probably about 10 years ago and the interviewer mentioned his latest calendar where he was wearing tiny denim shorts and iirc no top. He said he worked really hard to keep in shape for fear of being compared unfavourably to younger male popstars (or words to that effect) It was as if he felt he had the same fan base as the current boybands!

As if you'd go into WH smiths intending to buy a One Direction calendar ....and then change your mind when you saw Cliff in his hotpants ....🤢🤣

Sorry, forgot to add the Quote 😂

I think he might be a bit out of sync with his own thoughts tbh. I saw a very recent clip of him taking about artificial insemination instead of artificial intelligence.

You do have to wonder why he doesn't just give up with the public appearances etc and enjoy his fortune that he surely doesn't need to add to.

Yes I saw that on BBC Breakfast and thought it was a very odd comment. There's always something about him that I don't like, he gives me the creeps.

So does Madonna. Does she give you the creeps??

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 20/11/2023 16:18

Well, Elvis was a superstar who is still idolised and memorialised to this day. Cliff Richard, not so much. He looks like a cadaver and he will never achieve that status.

I like Alison Hammond; I'm sure she's had comments about her weight before and worse than that. She's a sweet woman though who most definitely doesn't look like a cadaver.

He is idolised by his fan base. I am not suggesting he is a world-wide icon like Elvis but he is incredibly popular across the world (though not the US - he never made it there) and he was definitely at the start of the pop revolution in this country.

Unless you are of a certain age you can't imagine how popular he was. Fans screamed at him as much as they did at the Beatles.

Shame though, like so many, he didn't want to grow old gracefully.

sleepismyhobby · 20/11/2023 16:56

What's this got to do with Madonna? What an odd comment

TheProvincialLady · 20/11/2023 16:57

Things that are ok according to this thread:

  • Ageism
  • Veiled homophobia
  • Criticising Cliff Richards for being too thin at 80
  • A man who had a relationship with a 14 year old
  • Having a feeling that someone is a sex offender based on not liking his music or appearance

Things that are not ok according to this thread:

  • Criticising Elvis for being fat at 40
  • A man who who was subject to potentially malicious allegations and whose house was raided and brought forth no evidence

I don’t like Cliff Richards’ music (not fussed about Elvis either), and maybe he could have been nicer in that interview. But some people are showing their true selves on this thread and it isn’t pretty. Oh sorry, did I just pretty shame someone? It’s ok, she’s only an old biddy.

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 20/11/2023 16:57

I’m overweight ( but not obese ) I have two jobs, in one I am the fattest person there. I wouldn’t assume that anyone discussing fat Elvis was a reflection on me. I’d be really embarrassed if people thought they couldn’t mention weight around me. Like I was some sort of elephant in the room.

How so? Someone sniped that Cliff drinks his own urine. I said, so does Madonna.

What's difficult to comprehend here??

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 20/11/2023 15:09

Eh?

The point was about Cliff Richard and the BBC (one of the most nauseatingly toady, biased, homogenous, smug broadcasters I've ever come across outside China and the Middle East). I will bash the BBC all day and every day, it's a pitiful excuse for a license fee.

CR used to churn out a 'christmassy' song every year and top the charts - it was the bbc that banned him from the chart playlist and stopped that particular bit of exploitation.

Oh it was you who made the nasty comment.

So it's ok for another famous singer to drink her own pee, but it's something else to hold against CR!!
