How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲

Hi,

Had TM on in the background earlier and I was absolutely shocked at how casually rude Cliff Richard was to Alison Hammond. Not directly to her, but MASSIVELY inconsiderate and offensive nevertheless.

He was talking about the reason he missed his chance to meet Elvis and he explained that Elvis was overweight at the time and he knew he'd put up a picture on his wall of him and Elvis, but didn't want to if he "overweight and didn't look good" 🤨🙄 He went on to say something else not looking good if you were carrying extra weight and you could see how upset Alison was. She came back with something and tried to be humorous about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't want to call him out on it there and then. And obviously it won't have just been Alison who would have been offended by his clumsy, tone deaf comments.

Did anyone see it? So bad 🫤

Nobody is denying that. This thread isn't about whether AH is overweight or not. It's about whether CR is a rude, creepy man. Which he is. No denying that either.

Why is he creepy? Have you heard something? Or is it just your personal, general impression? If it's the latter, you really shouldn't go online saying things like that about people as it can be very damaging.

old biddies don't exactly like the Rolling Stones etc. Shock

This old biddy does!

So does this one. I would rather go and see The Rolling Stones than Cliff Richard any day.

UnbreakMyFart · 20/11/2023 16:26

I’m not getting this, did he not want the picture because Elvis was fat, and he didn’t want to look at fat Elvis? Or because he himself was fat and he didn’t want an unflattering photo of himself?

mydogisthebest · 20/11/2023 16:23

Well if you have a "feeling" than he must have done wrong. How pathetic you sound.

I prefer Cliff to mouthy I love myself Hammond any day. She is so false with that awful laugh and "babes" all the time. Awful woman

Thanks for the insult.

Maybe read my post. I said it wasn't a feeling. Well done for insulting me and Alison Hammond all in the same post.

Not a fan of CR at all, BUT. Half of the people on here are being openly ageist. Why is fattism unacceptable but ageism isn't?

All of us will be older one day (if we are lucky)

There's a huge irony around a thread condemning perceived fattism stinking of ageism isn't there??

reminds me of that other lovely "singer" from Cliff's generation, Cilla Black, on Loose Women. Just after the Japanese tsunami, talking about "them over there" and how we couldn't relate as they were "all over there"
Tone Deaf, some of that generation. Not
all, but a far few.

Well she was a well-known nasty piece of work. Claimed to love Liverpool but didn’t want to live there did she. Cliff Richard looks like a skeleton. Peter Pan of pop? Not aged well. Soppy old duffer.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 20/11/2023 16:20

@CharingX976 well apparently Sue Barker’s parents weren’t happy with the age gap in their relationship even though she was 25 and he was 41.

I agree with you to an extent, he’s not guilty of anything as far as anyone knows but as in the case of Jimmy Savile etc people have raised concerns about him before and look where that got them. I’m not tarring Cliff with the same brush as Jimmy by any means.

And re the magazine, of course Cliff’s PR people will have liaised with them to ensure that the youthful, handsome pop star image was portrayed to their readers who as I said before were young girls. At least with David Cassidy, Adam Ant etc they were good looking and younger girls liked them.

As for your first point, I really don't understand the point... She was 25, not 17?

RiderOfTheBlue · 20/11/2023 16:28

@CharingX976 I'm fairly sure CR isn't reading what I say about him on MN. And even if he is, I'm not implying anything untoward or illegal. Just that I (and many others judging by this thread) find him creepy. I'm entitled to say that.

I suggest you have some camomile tea and calm down. Smile

I don’t find him creepy just rude today on that show.

Blimey, you're trying to defend someone from criticism by being utterly horrific about someone else. Really doesn't strengthen your case.

It's not Alyson Hammond who is accusing CR of anything, calling him a bad 'un or mentioning a "feeling" about him; she merely called him out on his pretty awful and shallow anecdote and fst-shaming.

SpeculatingRooks · 20/11/2023 16:30

Cliff slightly dissed Prof Noel Fitzpatrick there as well. That got my hackles up more!

ghostestwiththemostest · 20/11/2023 16:31

Talking of Cliff Richard...this made me laugh

How rude was Cliff Richard to Alison Hammond?! 😲
IClaudine · 20/11/2023 16:32

I have heard rumours about CR, to be fair (via people in the music industry), but mostly that he has a private life that he prefers to be private, which is fair enough.

Loving all the ageist old biddy remarks! Many of today's old biddies would have been into the Stones, the Who, Jefferson Airplane etc. and dropping acid. Cliff has always been totally naff. Music for people who don't really like music.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/11/2023 16:33

I will never forgive him for penning a verse with lines ending in ‘time’, ‘wine’ and ‘rhyme’. Really grates.

43ontherocksporfavor · 20/11/2023 16:34

I think Cliff was a bit paranoid about his weight as when he was young he had a chubby, baby face. Perhaps comments stayed with him but if that’s the case, he should know better!

Oh god, it is that time of year, isn't it? We'll soon be hearing that dross in the supermarket.

Ap24 · 20/11/2023 16:35

Cliff Richard having an opinion on anyone's looks is amusing. People in glass houses comes to mind.

Bouffe · 20/11/2023 16:38

This thread has been such an eye-opener. About a thousand years ago I worked for a PR/ events company that put on major product launches and events. Cliff Richard was one of the celebrities involved in one of them and my stunningly beautiful size 14-16 colleague returned from a planning meeting involving Cliff and his team strangely quiet and upset and said that Cliff wasn't what she'd been expecting. She later had a chat behind closed doors with the project manager and after that Sandy, who was a willowy 5'11' former model who looked like Nico of the Velvet Underground was despatched to meetings. And now I know why.

There’s a newspaper article where it says they weren’t happy about the relationship due to the age gap. Which is 16 years and is large by stretch even though she was 25 at the time.

porridgeisbae · 20/11/2023 16:40

@SpeculatingRooks I had to google him. He seems harmless enough. What did Cliff say about him? Sad

He's just coming across as b*tchy ,which just makes him seem like a gay stereotype while still supposedly being in the closet.

Treesinmygarden · 20/11/2023 16:43

Nanny0gg · 20/11/2023 15:33

What do you mean 'old biddies don't like the Rolling Stones'??

It was us 'Old biddies' who liked them in the first place and our tastes haven't changed! They're number 1 again and I bet it's my generation that's seen to that.

We weren't always old and in our heads we still aren't (that is actually a real thing - I'm still a teenager in my head)

So a little less ageism and patronising please

At least the older generations have some actual bloody commonsense!!!!

Did you ever hear a more ridiculous comment than "old biddies don't like the Rolling Stones"??? I am sick to death of the ageism displayed repeatedly on this page. Listen all ye patronising youngsters, you too will be old one day, if you're fortunate enough. Maybe by then you will have learned that a person's age does not define them.

If some people had brains, they'd be taxed.
