How do you find happiness or enjoyment in winter?

I'm already struggling with the cold and rain and dark. In summer, I often drive out to the countryside for a walk or to the coast for a swim in the sea. If nothing else I sit out in the garden enjoying the sun.
But for the last few weeks I feel like I get in from work, get some tea, and am then just wishing my life away until I can go to bed.

Does anyone else relate? And if not, how do you stay cheerful in winter?

Really? You seem to wonder whyyyy people like weather that doesn’t cost them a fortune in getting to a bearable comfortable temperature

Not at all - I've actually never once said I don't understand people's love for summer.

All I've said is I don't like it myself and tried to explain why.

You’ve said it’s sweaty and sticky. That’s your opinion.

Up out and early walking in the fresh air. Today was absolutely stunning where I live. Was outdoors dog walking for just over one hour.

Right you get that I don’t like cold and damp but because you do I should shut up and stop moaning because you don’t like the few days of hot weather we get.

Batshit. That’s all there is to it. Not engaging with you anymore!

p.s.. gonna be FREEZING tomorrow. Yippee!

Yep. Not a criticism or a sign that I don't understand why other people like it 🙄

cardibach · 13/01/2024 19:38

I give up.
People who get the weather they like for the bulk of the year think it’s fab and those of us who find winter positively depressing (not a turn of phrase, actual clinical depression) should just shut up because it’s unreasonable to be nasty to them because they don’t like being a bit warm for about 2 weeks.
Not following or responding here any longer as it’s making me feel even worse than normal.

It's my favourite time of year for a dog walk - especially when the mud is all frozen so the dogs' stay nice and clean Grin

You don’t think that’s goady? Wow.

The teenagers seem to either shut the curtains to block out the light or shut the curtains to keep heat in whilst they blow up pixels.

Perhaps learn from them and blow up things digitally when you are feeling cross at the weather. It seems to make them happy regardless of the temperature!

You are really unpleasant aren’t you?

So we can't even respond to other people who enjoy winter without being goady?

You are NUTS!!! The woman brought her dogs for a walk in stunning scenery? I don’t have that where I live! It does spund blissful.

So you admit you're being nasty to people then?

You asked for it with your incessant need to press people, contradict them, tell them they are talking shit all because they prefer a different season. Cop on.

@cardibach I gave up on these threads years ago on the whole. They don’t get it. 6 + months of cold dreary weather. Massive heating bills. Summer is at most a fee weeks of it being warm and sunny the rest, on the whole, a disappointment. Yet still the moaning that summer is ‘hot and sticky’ what for a few weeks? Try imagine it being hot and sticky every day for 6 months with no respite and you may understand why we summer lovers get a bit tetchy in these threads.

Really imagine - day after day of hot and sticky weather for at least 6 months. Then you get your cold weather for 2 weeks. Yet then someone moaned it was ‘too cold’ and they didn’t like it.

margotrose · 13/01/2024 19:43

Why does it matter what other people like, though? Why does it affect you so much that some people enjoy winter @Delatron ?

If we had perpetual sunshine for 9 months of the year I would lose my mind. I can understand how the summer lovers can feel short changed in regard to the weather and how Winter could bring them down when it lasts for so long. That is totally understandable

I’ve already addressed that.

Delatron · 13/01/2024 19:44

I just get annoyed with the moaning and inaccurate description of summer on here. I wouldn’t do the same if it was reversed.

It would make no odds to me what people liked. Doesn’t change the weather.

Yes you did to be fair. That was appreciated.
Quite rare to see to be honest.

You can’t rewrite the weather though? If it’s not warm and sunny then it’s not warm and sunny. That’s simply a fact.

So we cannot have an opinion then? We cannot say we like Winter when we do? We cannot say we don’t like Summer when we don’t?

All because Winter is too long?

But we all live in different parts of the country and have different bodies and feel the heat (or the cold, or the humidity) in different ways.

I have said several times that I have autism and lots of sensory issues, so what would be totally manageable for many people is almost impossible for me. That's not me re-writing the weather, it's giving my own, genuine experience of it.

I totally appreciate other people are different and said as much upthread.
