How do you find happiness or enjoyment in winter?

I'm already struggling with the cold and rain and dark. In summer, I often drive out to the countryside for a walk or to the coast for a swim in the sea. If nothing else I sit out in the garden enjoying the sun.
But for the last few weeks I feel like I get in from work, get some tea, and am then just wishing my life away until I can go to bed.

Does anyone else relate? And if not, how do you stay cheerful in winter?

I prefer summer in the U K. I don't recognise the hot and sticky summers either😂 maybe be a few days, and it is because some people aren't used to! No air con I guess, but I've lived in much hotter and humid then the temperate UK. Even 'heatwave ' is bearable here, and I'm in the South East. Summers are not long here so I make the most of it. The winters drag on, grey boring days are more common so I hibernate and rest more I guess but it does Dragon compared to shorter summers here.

I’m not picking holes in your reasons any more than you are picking holes in mine.
Just let me hate winter which is 5 months and love summer which is about 6 days and stop complaining as though you are the hard done to one.

How have I picked holes in anything you said? I sympathised with you. You are being ridiculous but guess what? It will be cold and dark tomorrow and the day after, it’s like you are blaming the Winter lovers for MAKING it Winter 😂

I’m getting the sense that you don’t commute by tube in London, @cardibach.

As are you. And you have the best of the weather for your preference.

I am not knocking anyone’s preference…you are!

You don't have to "get it".

Ok. What hobbies do you have that you do t have to do in winter but don’t make you too ‘sticky’ in the 3 days of British summer?

Yes you are!
its hot
its sticky
it makes you miserable.
Same as I’m saying but in reverse.
But you get 5 months minimum and I get about 2 weeks.

Eh?

PurpleChrayne · 13/01/2024 19:18

I bought a bottle of Monin gingerbread syrup on eBay so I can make myself a gingerbread latte whenever I like. It really cheers me up!

Neither do most of the population. What’s your point?

I am telling you why I hate it. I am not questioning why you like it. Or asking stupid questions or trying to pick holes in people’s preferences because they are not mine.

You didn’t.
You revelled in your crappy weather preference. You said nice weather was sweaty and sticky.

You are doing exactly what I’m doing. But you think I’m wrong so it seems critical to you. I feel the same.

I like spring! Best of both worlds.

You revelled in your Summer weather. I think you are a bit nuts. Go back on my posts and read what I said!

I go hiking with friends and our dogs.

I don't like doing it in summer because it's too hot and busy - and yes, too "sticky". There are also too many people around and we've had lots of bad experiences. At this time of year, it's perfect. I don't have to do it in the cold, dark evenings, but I can go out and do it on nice, crisp sunny days without feeling hot and overwhelmed.

Is that okay with you? lol.

Newchallenge24 · 13/01/2024 19:24

People do seem to complain about being 'sticky' in the summer. Yes sometimes it's a bit comfortable to sleep and can get a bit hot being outside, but a lot of people seem to complain about sweating in places I've never sweated in. I think summer is probably more uncomfortable if you are overweight.

Icantbedoingwithit · 13/01/2024 19:25

If we had perpetual sunshine for 9 months of the year I would lose my mind. I can understand how the summer lovers can feel short changed in regard to the weather and how Winter could bring them down when it lasts for so long. That is totally understandable

Here’s one to start you off.

That's not criticising though. It's just a personal opinion about a time of year.

You don't have to be overweight to sweat more than others. Not a nice (snide) comment to try and make towards people.

I do. For two weeks. Do you see why it might be galling for people to moan about them when they have 5 months at least of what they like?

I'm not the one pulling apart everyone's comments and going "but whyyyy" at everything😂

Really? You seem to wonder whyyyy people like weather that doesn’t cost them a fortune in getting to a bearable comfortable temperature

Right you get that I don’t like cold and damp but because you do I should shut up and stop moaning because you don’t like the few days of hot weather we get.
