Thread 11 - TalkLair: “The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles.”

Whoops, missed the filling up of the previous thread! (thread 10).

Although the nights are gradually drawing in, the new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey inside. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

What an ordeal @MouseMinge! Glad the next one should be quicker at least. Joining bint in picturing cancer cell obliteration.

SinnerBoy · 30/12/2023 11:25

MouseMinge · Yesterday 23:21

Well, may all your side effects be very mild!

duc748 · 30/12/2023 11:30

Wishing you well, Mouse!

That sounds like a long, exhausting and generally stressful day @MouseMinge ! Here’s to the next one being easier and, more importantly, the cancer cells realising they’re doomed and giving in quickly.

MouseMinge · 30/12/2023 18:03

I do hope so. Today is not too bad but I do feel rather on the sick side and all I want to have is water. Thank heavens for my feeding tube which means I'll get nutrition without having to go through my stomach. Snoop came around and I got out to Morrison's for cat food which was running v low. In there I realised that the one thing I would risk eating, although in all likelihood that would have been impossible, was a Ginster macaroni cheese bake. They don't do them anymore and maybe they were a brief try out or something but my god I loved them. The lovely pastry and the filling. It was undoubtedly a world of wrong, but the heart wants what it wants. Typing about it now I feel sick so that desire wore off quickly enough!

All in all, I'm not doing too badly. A bit of nausea is to be expected and I'm tired but so far so good.

weaseleyes · 30/12/2023 22:04

Glad there's one batch out of the way, mouse, and I hope you're doing some crossings off on a calendar.

VictorianBigot · 31/12/2023 00:07

@MouseMinge have they given you ondansetron?

Britinme · 31/12/2023 00:10

That stuff is brilliant for nausea. I used to take it when I had a migraine and was throwing up constantly.

MouseMinge · 31/12/2023 00:17

I think that's the one. I've felt sick all day but the smallest amount of actual sick because I have no appetite. Thank heavens for the feeding tube and cold, cold water!

MouseMinge · 31/12/2023 03:45

It is that one definitely. Alas not long after taking it earlier, I hurled. It stayed down though, mostly just water with some saliva, so there's that. I'm just starting to feel close to sleeping after another explosion from elsewhere.

VictorianBigot · 31/12/2023 11:38

Really hope you managed to get some sleep @MouseMinge. My friend had some sickness at the beginning but it passed relatively quickly, hoping this will be the case for you.

MouseMinge · 31/12/2023 13:46

I did. Django decided that this morning it was time for howling and being bold. Francis sorted the nonsense after I said "be quiet!" A couple of times. Anyway! I was a little grateful for the nonsense because I got to catch up with The Archers and then snoozed some more. Currently contemplating meds.

MouseMinge · 31/12/2023 19:40

Yep, today is a bad day. And oh my god the smell of my sweat makes me want to boak all the more. The cats, including boldy boy Django, are so well-behaved. I'm on the recliner with a blanket over me and my Francis next to me keeping me warm. I'm feeling the cold the past couple of days.

Anyway! After getting a bit tearful because it's finally sinking in that I'm a bit ill, I am watching Acorn Antiques which always makes me happy. They're in Birmingham during the summer so it's lovely to see the sunshine along with some nice bits and bobs and some odd bits and bobs too.

weaseleyes · 31/12/2023 19:42

You've been remarkably stoical so far. A bit of teariness seems understandable!

MouseMinge · 31/12/2023 20:19

I'm such a halfwit. They're in Leeds, not Birmingham. Roundhay Park. It's a lovely place.

Gonners · 31/12/2023 20:26

@MouseMinge - In your shoes, I'd be a snivelling wreck the moment I was on my own. Cats obviously help and it seems that lovely Francis has had quiet but very firm miaows with Django about his earlier behaviour. There may even have been batting around the ears.

I've never been to Leeds, or Birmingham. No, I tell a lie - I once flew into Birmingham from Trieste, on the way to Cardiff. All I really saw was the airport and the railway station, but the train journey down the west coast (do I mean coast? surely not!) of the Severn was absolutely worth the fact that it took about 2 hours longer than the faster route.

MouseMinge · 31/12/2023 20:45

I've been to both! Birmingham was a quick visit. We got a team together to try out for Universally challenged. We just missed the cut which wasn't too surprising as we had no science in our team at all and were mostly history. What we had in our favour was some maturity and brains full of useless information!

Leeds was to visit Pobbie back many millions of years ago. I liked Leeds.

MouseMinge · 31/12/2023 20:47

The Severn is beautiful. I lived in Worcester and we used to walk along the Severn and the canal as well. Lots of swans. Not a bad place to live for a while but the lack of sea was always going to be an insurmountable issue to my love of seahorses.

Just talking bollocks now!

VictorianBigot · 31/12/2023 21:17

The sea round here is grate at the moment. I've been down a few times this week and got spat at by the waves as I've watched on in awe. Not as pleasingly wild as when I used to live in the North East and the waves would threaten to drag you off the promenade, but it's been enjoyable all the same.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 31/12/2023 21:57

Sorry you're feeling ropey, Mouse.

If you're looking for cheering things to watch, we've just seen the xmas special (Coronation) episode of https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p0bh0ftr/dodger?seriesId=m001fqsb Not seen the series before,.so I don't know if it's all as good, but the special was great. Very funny, with some spendid scenery chewing by surprisingly big names.

Dodger

Hold onto your top hats, Dodger and the gang are in for one heck of a ride!

MouseMinge · 31/12/2023 22:48

I shall give that a look tomorrow. Thank you!

bignosebignose · 31/12/2023 23:34

I really lost track of these threads and have barely posted here or in the other place in recent weeks other than football predictions. Too much work plus running out of things to say on the main topic that brought us all here and/ or others (mainly women) saying it better than I could. (I still say plenty in real life to friends and family.)

Anyway, just wanted to pop in to say hello and wish you great people a happy new year. Maybe see you all more in the coming year.

bignosebignose · 31/12/2023 23:36

And large hugs to you MM.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 31/12/2023 23:40

Good to see you, BNBN.

Not sure if I'm still going to be awake for the bells (or, round here, foghorns) so I shall wish you all very happy new year. May 2024 bring good things for you all.

artant · 31/12/2023 23:43

Happy New Year to us all! May 2024 be an excellent year and bring us all - and especially Mouse - good health and happy times.
