Are you really ok with having another Tory government? Because in all honesty that is what you'll get.

You do understand that in many constituencies not voting for Labour (either by voting for a minority party or spoiling your ballot) will ensure a Tory gets in? If you live in one where another party can beat the Tories, crack on.

That is not my problem to solve. Labour need to do better, then I'll vote for them again.

I won't be guilted into voting for them.

PattyDukeAstin · 18/11/2023 16:00

Many so called 'experts' on here talking about not voting and spoiling their ballots - lots of angry voices that say very little. You are not discussing political issues - just lots of shouting. Sad times.

It’s absolutely your problem. That’s what democracy means. The governance of the country is chosen by the electorate. What you are doing is choosing Tory. Vote for whoever can get/keep them out in your constituency as none of the major parties are worse than the Tories.

MintJulia · 18/11/2023 16:06

"No, not really. But I wouldn't vote Labour if you paid me.

I strongly suspect we'll end up with a Labour government but I will not have any part in electing them."

This. I don't know who I will vote for but it won't be Labour or the Tories.

Not in my name !

tiggergoesbounce · 18/11/2023 16:10

It boggles my mind how people convince themselves tories are the party for women rights. Its so deluded. Everything that is being allowed to happen now, is under a tory government who have had 14 years to sort this shit out. They have shown you they dont care about women's rights, they have shown you who they are.....listen.

3Tunes · 18/11/2023 16:13

OP, feel free to scold me for focusing on women’s rights. And to tell me to ignore a strong history of anti-semitism in the Labour Party, and how it’s really all because you care so deeply about the Palestinians (but somehow you don’t march, talk and protest so much about other oppressed minorities). Absolutely feel free to post on multiple threads about how awful Blair was, and how he’s a war criminal. And how the Lib Dem’s betrayed (not sure who, everyone?) over tuition fees.

But don’t then expect pragmatic, centrist voters to feel at home in the Labour Party. Or to vote Labour without some serious thought about least worst options.

ehb102 · 18/11/2023 16:21

I held my nose and voted Labour LAST general election. Not again.

ehb102 · 18/11/2023 16:25

@tiggergoesbounce It's not that the Tories are the party of women's rights. It's just that they aren't the pro paedophile pro cross dressing men pro abuser pro wiping out of women's rights that Labour are. The Tories have actually improved some women's rights, such as their changes to domestic violence law. It's like the petrol tax accelerator, it was more green than the Green Party would ever admit.

travelnorth · 18/11/2023 16:37

Starmer not only does not know what a woman is but he does not even know what working class is. The shadow cabinet is awful and would support Corbyn back anytime. I would vote Tories and for Tory major in London because the useless Sadiq Khan should go.

Cincinnatus · 18/11/2023 16:38

At this point I will probably be spoiling my ballot. They are all shit.

JaneyGee · 18/11/2023 16:41

I won’t be voting Labour for two reasons:

First, the woke madness. I am sick to death of having my history and identity sneered at and ridiculed. Both Englishness and Britishness have become almost toxic. Everything is now a target, from Churchill to Dickens. There is a serious effort underway to make British people hate and reject their past. The woke left identify a major figure from British history, find some dirt on them, pretend to be outraged and disgusted, demand they are ‘cancelled’, and then repeat the process. I even had an email from my university informing me they plan to ‘de-colonise’ the library. I mean wtf!!

Second, immigration. Last year, net immigration was 600,000. That is more than the population of Manchester. I live in rural Essex, and things are becoming unbearable. The traffic is now so bad I hardly go out. My local woods have been hacked down to make way for a new housing estate, and at the other end of the village a giant new estate is also being built. The migration crisis hasn’t even begun yet. Africa has the highest birth rate in the world. In fact, by 2050 the African population is going to double.

However useless the Tories may be, on those two issues Labour will be much, much worse. If it wasn’t for that, I would vote Labour next year.

Lifesd · 18/11/2023 16:41

It isn’t about angry voices - why should people vote for a least worst option just to virtue signal? The whole thing is a shitshow and I know many people voting with their feet and leaving the UK. Majority in high band tax payers as well - many in healthcare/police.

DarkRainyNovember · 18/11/2023 16:43

I would love to have a change but nothing convinces me and rather like looking at deeds and actions mot listening to platitudes : the tory gov has had several female pm now.

@ehb102 - how many people actually get sentenced for domestic violence?? Its ok changing a law on paper so people think they care; but non of it gets inplemented, its pointless and i cant believe people still fall for this tripe. Its the same as rape.
How many men get sentenced for rape ?

But they are a pro paedephile pro cross dressing men pro abuser pro wiping out of women's rights, we are under a tory government who are allowing those people around our children, educating our children and educating our children about irradicating women's rights, allowing men to invade our spaces, allowing men to invade our spaces in prisons, hospitals. Thats all the tories showing you who they are.(Listen) and knowing, (thankfully only a small percentage) tories will still vote tory with ridiculous excuses.

mrscatwoman · 18/11/2023 16:53

The shadow cabinet is awful and would support Corbyn back anytime.

Why do people say shit like this?

NoPallava · 18/11/2023 16:55

I wouldn’t vote Labour because of (mostly) their MAD STUDENT POLITICS! It’s embarrassingly naïve and woke. Plus Starmer made it on the backs of the taxpayer as an immigration barrister (guess which side his breads buttered?)

That said, the Conservatives are equally a bunch of thick opportunists. Sunaks a silly sixth former and Cameron is a middle-aged complacent vacuous waste of space grrr…

I hate them all!

jasflowers · 18/11/2023 16:57

LeRougeEtLeNoir · 18/11/2023 15:30

There is a huge issue in British politics Imo.

Tories are just …. Out. Grabby, self serving, liars, etc etc etc
But Labour…. Isn’t much better. It’s not just Palestine, the gender stuff. It’s how they refuse to even talk about brexit, the benefits system (eg they are not going to vote against the new rules that will claimants lose their rights to free prescription etc….) etc etc… they are not a party of the left supporting workers, disabled people and the most vulnerable anymore.

Who else is there to vote for? In a country with a two party system, Not a lot 😢😢
But it’s certainly not democratic or representative of the population.

What do you think the press would do if Lab opposed Brexit? went against benefit changes?

They'd be accused of being against the people and in favour of scroungers.

We've seen it already, Starmer goes to see Macron and he is betraying the people, sunak does/says exactly the same and he is boosting the UK!!!

I think Labour have to be bolder but they also have to be careful too.

When they were a party of the left, supporting workers and the disabled, we all voted them to their worst defeat since WW2.

This isn't true.

Given that Labour looks on course to win with a huge majority, if I don't vote for them the most likely thing I'll get is a Labour government with a smaller majority, or possibly even a minority Labour government requiring the support of smaller parties to govern. The latter in particular would be by far the best outcome I can envisage, particularly in terms of making the transition to a properly democratic electoral system more likely.

We will only get a Tory government if enough people vote Tory to deliver them a majority of seats. As for whether I'm OK with that - it's not up to me. I can only use the vote that I have, and unfortunately I have to share this country with a large number of idiots. If they elect a Tory government then I'll do my best to survive as I always do when circumstances are compromised by idiots.

And it's not like Starmer is even pretending he'll do much differently from the Tories anyway.

Quite!!!

The Tories, unlike most other countries, let family members come in too with people on work or student visas - madness.

MotherofPearl · 18/11/2023 18:15

I agree OP. There is no perfect party with perfect policies. FGS, we need to knuckle down and get behind (by far) the least-worst option and vote Labour. I for one feel like I can't endure one more day of this revolting government, let alone another whole term.

superplumb · 18/11/2023 18:21

I'll vote for thr party I hate the least who can get in. That will be labour. We need the tory party gone.

Thelnebriati · 18/11/2023 18:32

We don't have to vote for bad politicians or bad policies. They actually get paid to do that job. They are the ones who need to represent us and do better.

Tiddlywinkly · 18/11/2023 18:42

I'll be spoiling my card. I'd never vote Tory, but I have no confidence in Labour which I would have voted for if not for this woke shite.

literalviolence · 18/11/2023 19:04

I think we need to consider who we are envisaging when we imagine the 'least worst'. It's not the women who will be locked in prison cells with men I think , or the women who will be assaulted or traumatised in 'womens' wards. There is a certain privilege in being able to consider labour least worst though of course on some scales they are.
