Are you really ok with having another Tory government? Because in all honesty that is what you'll get.

Spoiling my ballot.

GetTheWinterQuiltOut · 19/11/2023 11:23

The more shouty, patronising and dismissive you are and the more you insult people for not sharing your views, the more you’ll convince people they should agree with you. The tactic of leftists everywhere.

this is why Labour had such a shock at the polls last time around because the leftists were all over social media haranguing people, and everyone else just went out and voted

aswarmofmidges · 19/11/2023 11:25

I am not sure that the op plans to vote for anyone !

CheesyJacketPotato · 19/11/2023 11:25

@EasternStandard @EatMyHead

I'm free to start a thread that expresses an opinion. Whether you like it or not though.

I also think men should be voting the tories out. Not just women.

Spoiling my ballot.

I understand why people do this. But I don't think it's really achieving anything & is effectively not voting.

I just don't understand the air of desperation, op. Labour would have to do something monumentally stupid to lose the next election.

What satisfaction are you getting telling everyone what to do?

I think a lot of people desperately want the tories out.

I will vote Labour because I believe the left need to move together and not tear each other apart over single issues. We need evolutions not revolutions and to have meaningful discourse that find middle ground. We do not need people hoiking their bosom and flouncing off with righteous indignation.

The right centre on their own greed. Morals aren't really involved so it's far easier for them to stay cohesive. The challenge of the left is not tripping on our own sense of right and choosing better rather than insisting on best.

This Labour Party aren't exactly lighting the world on fire. I'd like to hear a whole lot more about how they will improve state schools rather than make private schools even more elite by charging VAT. I wish they would defend women's rights and could actually define a woman. Will I still vote for them? Yes. Will I try to involve myself in the discussion? Yes.

Desecratedcoconut · 19/11/2023 11:30

Perhaps, but they aren't all hen pecking women for having different opinions and intentions. What are you getting out of it?

EatMyHead · 19/11/2023 11:31

cardibach · 19/11/2023 11:16

No, it’s how FPTP works. Why do so few people get this?

They do get it. It's just that it's bullshit.

People are responsible for the consequences of their own actions. It's the people who vote for a Tory a government that are responsible for us having a Tory government. My choosing to vote for someone other than Labour, or to not vote at all, is not in itself an action that creates a Tory government.

You need to get over the fact that this emotional blackmail is not working any more.

CurlewKate · 19/11/2023 11:32

@GetTheWinterQuiltOut "The more shouty, patronising and dismissive you are and the more you insult people for not sharing your views, the more you’ll convince people they should agree with you. The tactic of leftists everywhere."

Are you saying that people on this thread are being patronising and shouty?

Incidentally- I am always confused by this way of thinking. If someone whose views I largely agree with was patronising and shouty (and I could name many!) I wouldn't then change my views. Surely that is the absolute definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. "Well, I now have a government that doesn't represent my views. But at least I showed AN Other person on social media where they got off...."

EatMyHead · 19/11/2023 11:32

What has Labour got to do with the left?

Once again. It's not emotional blackmail-it's maths.

Yes it is. The consequence of voting for a third party in a Tory seat is that the Tory wins. My ex ILs have never forgiven themselves for voting LD in 2010 to 'teach Labour a lesson.'

Some people say to vote for the lesser of two evils. I don't think there is one, and to vote for a party other than Labour or Tory is a wasted vote.

At least this way my hands are clean from the ongoing sh!t-show

On one hand I think women can hoik and be as righteous as they wish, and on the other I think it’s dismissive to use those words for women who feel strongly about things that they care about.

You are wishing for things from Labour you may not get, once they have your vote why would they listen to what you want?

When atm they really don’t want to hear those concerns

lemmein · 19/11/2023 11:43

For the first time ever I'm planning on not voting - i can't even be bothered spoiling my ballot. I don't feel like any of them represent me. Ive always voted Labour previously.

I was so looking forward to an election; another 4 years of tories is depressing as fuck but I honestly cannot vote for a party that supports Israel and threatens to sack those that don't. Dark times Sad

CurlewKate · 19/11/2023 11:45

"Perhaps, but they aren't all hen pecking women for having different opinions and intentions. What are you getting out of it?"

Well, I for one would LOVE it if people understood how the FPTP system works. If you want another Tory government-that's absolutely fine. It you want the Tories out the only why to achieve that is to vote Labour. Whether you're a man or a woman. Voting for minority parties as a protest just will not work.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 19/11/2023 11:49

CheesyJacketPotato · 19/11/2023 10:28

How on EARTH can you not care about the moral bankruptcy of the Tories, how much of our money they've wasted & how little they care about those they govern?

What are you on about? Who said I don’t care about the moral bankruptcy of the Tories? I certainly didn’t.

I vote FOR a party. I won’t be voting Tory, I never do. The point of my comment was that I won’t be able to bring myself to vote FOR Labour either, even though it’s my natural party. Because of Labour’s iniquities. Because I’m not voting for something I find repugnant.

They could quite easily do the right thing and stop being misogynist and antisemitic. Then I’d feel able to vote for them, as would many of their natural supporters. So why don’t they? For the party supposedly on the side of doing good, they’re making an absolutely dog’s breakfast of it.

Desecratedcoconut · 19/11/2023 11:52

People do understand the fptp system. They just don't want to support either of the two parties, that's their choice. They are happy to make their democratic choice and aren't outcome orientated.

Personally, I agree it's a wasted vote. Which is why I'm voting Tory.
