I need a good cry. What songs make you cry? I might make a playlist. The Disturbed version of The Sound of Silence gets the tears flowing for me, especially if I sing along loudly, although it's a marmite song here on mn.

Yes, isn't it fabulous. Have seen it a couple of times.
Saw them live in Manchester in May too. Best concert I have been to in years.
Looks like they will be touring again next year! Exciting, especially as have heard rumours they might be doing something special for the 40 year anniversary of both the Kimono My House and Propaganda albums.
Glad to see I am not alone in the Sparks love!

Omg I'm so envious.
I'm of an age where I remember them the first time around but my extremely cool dc has gone down a Sparks rabbit hole and taugh me so much about them.

They're so prolific I had no idea.
Once they did a run of shows doing an entire different album each night.
They're in their 70s fgs.

We couldn't go see them this year as dc was in last throes of uni exams.

Fingers crossed for 2024!

@NotMyDayJob I'm so sorry for your loss 💐
@Sellingbedtime Yes, I've got a 'dance around the kitchen' type of playlist - full of absolute bangers!

As I Lay Me Down - Sophie B Hawkins

The Carpenters- Bless The Beasts And The Children

Pink- Who Knew

Honey- Bobby Goldsboro

The Folk Singer- Tommy Roe

Many songs on Pink Floyds The Wall or Wish You Were Here are pretty sad.

Little Green, by Joni Mitchell
The Mother, by Brandi Carlile

I really like Brandi Carlisle. Spotify introduced me to her - I'll look that one up @mathanxiety

Anything by the carpenters to be fair!

My sister by tindersticks is officially the world's saddest song. Tiny tears will also get me blubbing.

Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space by spiritualized will also do it

Beth Orton's cover of the sisters of mercy

She Used To Be Mine by Sarah Bareilles

joan12 · 18/11/2023 14:00

Some great songs that I'm glad to be reminded of.

I'd add Travelin Soldier by the Chicks

Funkyslippers · 18/11/2023 14:02

Against All Odds by Phil Collins (no cover versions will ever match the emotion in his voice). I find it hard to listen to, I always get so choked up

Funkyslippers · 18/11/2023 14:04

Also She Goes On by Crowded House & Slipping Through My Fingers by Abba 💕

Little Green, by Joni Mitchell
The Mother, by Brandi Carlile

And The Joke by Brandi Carlisle.
Not forgetting The story either .both beautiful songs .

I've just remembered that In The Ghetto by Elvis also makes me cry when I hear it. The futility in the lyrics, plus the fact that it's over 50 years old & not much has changed.

Also a lot of Tracy Chapman's first album, for the same reason.

Shakespeares Sister - Stay
Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green) need your love so bad
Paul Weller - You do something to me
Dixie Chicks - fly
Matchbox Twenty - you won't be mine
Any song by George Micheal as I'm still sad he's gone.
