Can you drink a whole bottle of Prosecco?

Most Friday nights I drink a bottle of Prosecco to myself. Sometimes I have a gin and Tonic as well, or a glass of wine. I often have a nice relaxed feeling but don’t feel drunk. Is this a bad sign? I feel like Prosecco is easier to drink and goes down quicker and easier than wine. I am going to do dry January and go until the end of lent, but am enjoying drinking what is probably too much at the moment….but it’s easy to tell myself this is my normal and rationalise it, so checking in with other people as to whether this is a worrying amount of booze….

Prosecco is probably the thing I could drink the most of without feeling particularly bad. I can’t do more than 3 glasses white wine really without feeling it the next day (unless over a long period) but I think I could do a bottle of Prosecco fairly easily. I’ve definitely drunk a whole one over an afternoon/evening and not felt drunk let alone hungover. I do wonder if I metabolise it faster than other drinks or something? It’s not something I’d do more than once a year in a party situation though.

Chickenwing2 · 11/11/2023 09:10

A bottle of prosecco isnt quite enough for me, but there's no point in opening a new bottle just for 1 glass. Very annoying!

TropDrôle · 11/11/2023 09:15

I would need to be hospitalised after a full bottle. I don’t drink at all so I have zero tolerance.

I think it’s awful to have the tolerance to drink that much. A few glasses maybe but a whole bottle?

So you drink a bottle on Friday and Saturday?

Do you drink at all in the week?

I am AF now (have been for over 18 months as I was drinking a lot ) but when I was in my Prosecco phase I could drink a bottle (and then some)

Went off of it big time and probably didn't have more than the odd glass in the past decade. Red wine was my poison of choice and I'd easily do a bottle of that in an evening.

Not suggesting you need to stop. It's no-one else's business but people who enjoy drinking usually find their consumption only ever increases. Its very insidious.

How is it awful? Just because a grown adult has a tolerance to alcohol, don’t be silly - a bottle literally is a few glasses, just because you don’t want to drink doesn’t mean it’s the same for everyone.

Totally agree! Wine is better for that lol

SiobahnRoy · 11/11/2023 09:38

Cava or crémant yes, decent prosecco probably but the cheaper stuff gives me a bad head.

SallyWD · 11/11/2023 09:38

I mean I can but I'd feel drunk and sleep badly, then feel rough the next day. So I don't.

CallieQ · 11/11/2023 09:58

Half a bottle is my limit

THisbackwithavengeance · 11/11/2023 12:02

Yes.

EveWinter · 11/11/2023 12:10

Yes, I don’t drink very often (glass of wine three weeks out of four perhaps) but I could/have drunk a bottle of rose Prosecco over an evening and not felt drunk. I would have raging indigestion though.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/11/2023 12:45

Half a bottle would be enough for me, esp. if I’d had a G&T first.
Not that I really care for Prosecco, I’d rather have Cremant any day. .

porridgeisbae · 11/11/2023 12:53

You can treat your body with care and drink a bottle of Prosecco per week, same as you can treat your body with care and have a pizza/take away once a week.

Well, there's care and there's care but the NHS don't recommend we drink that much in one night. It's not good for the liver. In contrast, a takeaway once a week has no risks at all really, as long as the person isn't eating loads of saturated fat the rest of the week, too.

Changingplace · 11/11/2023 13:36

I just want a bottle of Prosecco tonight now 😄

I’m having a look and all I can see on the NHS website is it’s not recommended to drink more than 14 units a week and if you do then spread it over three or more days.

The single session drinking section doesn’t actually state number of units? I wonder if the guidelines have changed?

Prosecco is just like drinking lemonade, never get drunk o it always drink a whole bottle!
As for those saying you’ve got a drink problem or you’re binge drinking, what rubbish!

I could quite easily drink a whole bottle of wine every night, but I don’t, only on a Friday night and Saturday night, if it’s my weekend off, I also drink brandy, rum or whatever I fancy during the week, and usually a glass of wine with my evening meal!
I’ve never in my life suffered the next day, no matter how much I drink I’m still up between 5/5.30 every morning 🤣🤣🤣

TheChosenTwo · 11/11/2023 13:58

I don’t like prosecco but if i drank a bottle of red wine I’d be pretty drunk. Loud, singing,
lack of awareness…
last night I went out and had 4 pints and a cocktail I felt quite pissed/merry but not to the point where I didn’t know what I was doing and not out of control but I realised I hadn’t eaten since lunchtime. Got myself a pasty and 2 bottles of water for the train home and woke up feeling okay today. Not bright and sparkling but not headachey, just a bit groggy.

user1471538283 · 11/11/2023 14:47

I am particularly rubbish at drinking and get all silly on two glasses! I have been known to drink more but oh my, not good.

OldTinHat · 11/11/2023 14:57

Only one bottle!? 😁 Pass me two...!

menopausalmare · 11/11/2023 14:58

Yep, quite easily.

userxx · 11/11/2023 15:02

Nope, way too fizzy for my liking, give me a nice Rioja.

You need to keep a few mini bottles in!!

DeadBugMountainClimber · 11/11/2023 16:35

No, but that’s because I don’t like it.

I can drink a good bottle of Provençal rose in one sitting. I don’t do it very often (maybe twice a year) but I can.

I can drink a bottle of wine (with food) over an evening, often do, and be fine - obviously I'd feel the effects, but I wouldn't be outwardly drunk. If I drank four pints and a cocktail on an empty stomach I'd be smashed 😂

You wouldn't be hospitalised! I don't know why people are so dramatic. I've seen people who barely drink drink four/five glasses of Prosecco at a wedding and they've been fine, passed but fine. I drank a whole bottle of fizzy wine to myself when I was 16 and I was pretty drunk, but nowhere near being hospitalised. If the op was talking about vodka, I'd get your point, but she isn't.
