Can you drink a whole bottle of Prosecco?

Most Friday nights I drink a bottle of Prosecco to myself. Sometimes I have a gin and Tonic as well, or a glass of wine. I often have a nice relaxed feeling but don’t feel drunk. Is this a bad sign? I feel like Prosecco is easier to drink and goes down quicker and easier than wine. I am going to do dry January and go until the end of lent, but am enjoying drinking what is probably too much at the moment….but it’s easy to tell myself this is my normal and rationalise it, so checking in with other people as to whether this is a worrying amount of booze….

I mean I could. But I would be totally wasted. And feel ill the next day.

HippeePrincess · 10/11/2023 22:36

Easily, if I start early enough I’d drink a bottle of fizz plus a bottle of wine and a night cap.

Hardly, a bottle of Prosecco only has 9 units in it!

More than 6 units in a session is defined as binge drinking for women, and 8 units for men, so PP is technically correct.

I believe the uk definition of binge drinking is 6 or more units in one session for a woman, 8 or more for men. So yes, it is.

I can’t manage a lot of sparkling wine. It makes me feel sickly quite quickly. I definitely couldn’t manage a whole bottle of wine plus a gin and tonic by myself though. If pushing the boat out, I might have a cocktail and half a bottle of wine on a night out but for an evening in front of the telly only usually manage a glass and a half of wine or one or two bottle of beer.

StarDolphins · 10/11/2023 22:40

I love Prosecco. All my friends have no problem drinking a bottle of wine/Prosecco then 1 other drink.

I could but I don’t usually, I chuck the last inch of the bottle away, pat myself on the back & remind myself I’m superior to them🤣🥂

December though, either a full bottle or a few baileys as I love this too.

Enjoy your drink😊

"Vomiting for days"...fortunately we are all different. I would quite happily drink a bottle of prosecco or wine in one evening.

Figgygal · 10/11/2023 22:40

I struggle to even drink a glass after an unfortunate bottomless brunch has rendered it my kryptonite.
I can drink a bottle of wine at a push

OhpoorMe · 10/11/2023 22:41

Would you call yourself a bingedrinker?

A bottle of Prosecco, a gin and tonic and a glass of wine.

I expect the gin is not a small pub measure, and that the glass of wine is not small, either.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 10/11/2023 22:42

Prosecco usually lower %alcohol than regular wine, so a bottle slips down very easily.

This would count as “binge drinking”, even if that’s all you drink all week. (You don’t mention other days.)

Perhaps you should switch to something less drinkable, in order to cut back a bit?

It’s one day a week. Honestly, what do you think the repercussions will be from that?

ichundich · 10/11/2023 22:44

Not unless I'd had a really big meal before. I try to stick to 1-2 glasses at a time.

Fizbosshoes · 10/11/2023 22:45

I have done once or twice and not felt either drunk or hungover afterwards.
My usual drinking pattern is 1 or 2 small glasses of wine on a fri/sat/sun. But if I go out I occassionally have prosecco. DH not keen so I wouldn't drink a whole bottle at home. Having a bottle when you're out is usually better value than having 2 glasses.

CornedBeef451 · 10/11/2023 22:46

No it makes me burp too much!

My maximum is about 2 glasses then I'm uncomfortably bloated and feeling a bit sick.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 10/11/2023 22:46

I used to be able to drink two! (I used to party quite hard). Now i‘m in bed browsing mumsnet on a Friday at 10:45pm. You’ll get old too one day!

ichundich · 10/11/2023 22:47

This thread is quite eye-opening, unless most posters are students in their first year at uni.

Vikina · 10/11/2023 22:47

Yes, easily, but many on Mumsnet will tell you that you have a drink problem.

How do you know it’s one day a week? The OP doesn’t say.

And she clearly has concerns about her drinking, or she wouldn’t have posted and mentioned dry January etc.

bathroomcupnoard · 10/11/2023 22:48

Can't even manage a glass of Prosecco. Doesn't agree with me at all

A lot of people on Mumsnet try and normalise what is really quite heavy drinking, though.

Shopkinsprincess1986 · 10/11/2023 22:49

No. If you don’t feel drunk after drinking a whole bottle you need to cut back Op.

On this very thread, in fact.

Horriblewoman · 10/11/2023 22:51

I can easily drink a bottle if I’m socialising and have no ill effects but I don’t get as much enjoyment for doing at home alone so tend not to.
