Can you drink a whole bottle of Prosecco?

Most Friday nights I drink a bottle of Prosecco to myself. Sometimes I have a gin and Tonic as well, or a glass of wine. I often have a nice relaxed feeling but don’t feel drunk. Is this a bad sign? I feel like Prosecco is easier to drink and goes down quicker and easier than wine. I am going to do dry January and go until the end of lent, but am enjoying drinking what is probably too much at the moment….but it’s easy to tell myself this is my normal and rationalise it, so checking in with other people as to whether this is a worrying amount of booze….

I can manage a bottle, feel fairly squiffy and burp for England

🤣🤣 squiffy .. that would be me as well

EversoDisorganised · 10/11/2023 22:53

No way, two glasses is more than enough.

Seaitoverthere · 10/11/2023 22:54

No I would feel sick and the next couple of days would be very unpleasant.

I think prosecco is very mild stuff, only a tiny bit more alcoholic than fruit juice. I wouldn't drink a whole bottle though. Maybe a half.

NotFastButFurious · 10/11/2023 22:55

Yes, no problem! It’s generally a lower alcohol % than wine and definitely doesn’t get me as drunk.

foulksmills · 10/11/2023 22:58

Well, Prosecco being carbonated means I wouldn't like too much of it but I have very nearly polished off an entire bottle of sherry. 🍷

rainydogday · 10/11/2023 22:58

I got a bottle stopper for fizz. I am the only one who drinks it so feel I need to drink it all in one night or it will go flat. The new stopper is brilliant! Now I can drink it all week!Blush

GrumpyOldCrone · 10/11/2023 22:58

I can easily drink a bottle of Prosecco and not feel drunk. However, if I start on a second bottle I usually regret it. I don’t get hangovers but I feel quite tired the morning after. So it’s not a regular occurrence.

DanaBarrett · 10/11/2023 23:00

Just the one, dear?

beetr00 · 10/11/2023 23:00

@ThePenIsBlue depends on % alcohol.

Some bottles of prosecco are 4% ABV, some 12%

but just fyi; strength (ABV) x volume (ml) ÷ 1,000 = units, therefore, given previous examples, you'll be drinking either 3 or 9 units.

Cheers🍾

RedToothBrush · 10/11/2023 23:01

No. I'd be seriously sick if I tried.

DeireadhFomhair · 10/11/2023 23:03

I can't because it would give me terrible heartburn, but could easily drink a bottle of red wine 🍷

TheChristmasPig · 10/11/2023 23:03

Yes easily but I would worry I was going to start chatting shit, or fall into someone.

DelilahBucket · 10/11/2023 23:05

A month ago I could, wouldn't have batted an eyelid, but I was also drinking most nights. I cut right down and midweek drinking was the first thing to go. I started measuring what I was drinking too, so a gin was a single unit. I can't finish a bottle now. 6 units across the course of an evening (before dinner through to bedtime) is my max now and only if I don't have to get up in the morning.

Coolblur · 10/11/2023 23:06

You know you can buy small bottles that just contain one glass right? No need to buy and drink a full 75cl bottle (and the rest) yourself because 'DH/DP doesn't like it' when you could just have a couple of the little ones.

In answer to your concern I think a bottle plus extra is too much every week. Whether it's a problem or just a habit you've fallen into depends on how easily you can skip a week or two. Rather than saving yourself for dry January, start cutting down now and try to go without until December. If you're finding excuses not to, then you know you need to nip this in the bud before it becomes a bigger issue

I don’t actually like Prosecco , however I’ve just drunk a bottle of Pinot Grigio and I’m feeling fine

Urgh, don’t remind me, sharing the amontillado with DH gave me serious room spin the other night. I’m not fond of Prosecco, my stomach tends to mistake it for paint stripper. Give me a Blanquette de Limoux every time.

I’ve just flicked through the Prosecco available on my online shopping app. Every bottle was 11% or more, except for one at 10.5%.

It may well be that the OP is drinking a bottle of 4%, but I strongly doubt it.

Nippi · 10/11/2023 23:09

I thought my friend was joking when she said she drank a whole bottle.
I love prosecco but more than two small glasses and I would be ill.
I could have done it when in my 20s though.
I've discovered Lidl do a can of prosecco which is just right for me.

Buffypaws · 10/11/2023 23:09

a bottle of Prosecco is no problem and neither is a bottle of dessert wine as I found out last week

That is most definitely not normal.
If your body has got used to a full bottle plus an extra drink I’d say you’ve got a problem with alcohol.
Id be legless off that!

foulksmills · 10/11/2023 23:10

Fair enough @NumberFortyNorhamGardens sherry is very sweet and not for everyone but, perhaps unfortunately, I like sweet things. Including Malibu and peach schnapps. 🍑

idontlikealdi · 10/11/2023 23:10

Nope. I like a drink but the acid would do me in.

StampOnTheGround · 10/11/2023 23:11

Yes I could and I wouldn't be drunk either. Thought that would change when I stopped drinking for a prolonged period while I was pregnant and early days with a newborn, nope - I was still the same! 😂

Jamchops · 10/11/2023 23:12

Half a bottle yes. Not usually, but at a push two-thirds. I’d feel pretty sick drinking a whole bottle.
