Can you drink a whole bottle of Prosecco?

Most Friday nights I drink a bottle of Prosecco to myself. Sometimes I have a gin and Tonic as well, or a glass of wine. I often have a nice relaxed feeling but don’t feel drunk. Is this a bad sign? I feel like Prosecco is easier to drink and goes down quicker and easier than wine. I am going to do dry January and go until the end of lent, but am enjoying drinking what is probably too much at the moment….but it’s easy to tell myself this is my normal and rationalise it, so checking in with other people as to whether this is a worrying amount of booze….

I could easily drink that and not be drunk. I'm quite large though so my tolerance is high. I have a friend who would be proper smashed on a whole bottle.

Jamchops · 10/11/2023 23:14

But I try to live by the Matchmaker Millionaire’s maxim:

”two drinks maximum”

sleepfortheweek · 10/11/2023 23:14

I can drink a heap of Prosecco and not feel drunk compared to other drinks!

I have a bottle of wine most Fridays...it's my treat and I enjoy it. I don't feel terribly drunk and I never feel bad the next day.

I can easily drink a whole bottle of wine/Prosecco with dinner and over a period of a few hours. If you have your first glass at 7 and finish at 11 and have dinner during that period, it's not going to make many people drink. If you neck it in an hour or so on an empty stomach, then yes!

icebearforpresident · 10/11/2023 23:15

I don’t tend to drink a lot of Prosecco but I can drink a bottle of wine in a night and maybe feel a wee bit light headed and have zero effects the next day. So given it’s a lower alcohol content I could probably manage a bottle of Prosecco to myself absolutely fine.

I’d be drunk on 2 glasses 🥂
To be honest I would be vomiting 🤮 for days if I drank a bottle .

You wouldn't be vomiting for days. Don't be so overly dramatic.

That is most definitely not normal.
If your body has got used to a full bottle plus an extra drink I’d say you’ve got a problem with alcohol.
Id be legless off that!

It might not be good for you, or sensible, or healthy or all sorts of things, but saying it’s not normal goes against what most people on this thread have said….. that’s why I wanted to ask. You either get people that say they could sink 3 bottles and run a marathon the next day, or people that say they couldn’t drink more than 2 glasses. This thread has made me realise I am prob drinking too much, but I’m also in good company. For various reasons I’ve got a lot of very nice wine and Prosecco in my house, and so I want to enjoy it whilst it lasts. January is a good time to start fresh (and I hope I’ll have drunl it all my then! I’ve got about 10 bottles of Waitrose San Leo in my wine fridge! And 15 bottles of nice Sauvignon blanc!)

Oh god yeah, and some. I can easily smash a bottle of red.

ThatWhiteElephant · 10/11/2023 23:19

God no, I'd be on the floor!
But I hardly drink. When I do I only ever have two, at a push three drinks and that's not very often at all.

Hubblebubbletrouble · 10/11/2023 23:19

Why not rather than binge drink your inventory of wine you drink it in moderation and continue to do so even in the new year?

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 10/11/2023 23:20

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. If you're seriously planning to drink 25 bottles of booze between now and the beginning of January you have problems!

Tawlk · 10/11/2023 23:21

Yes, yes I can. Good buzz after a bottle of Prosecco as it’s usually lower alcohol than wine. I would be wasted after a bottle of wine on the other hand!

I agree! I never understand why people do Dry January either unless they have an alcohol problem.

Here’s the maths and science advisory bit
1 x 750ml Prosecco = 9 units.
Max wkly allowance advised = 12 units

so plus a gin if that’s all you have all week then you’re within your limits.

Personally I can’t stand Prosecco but I’ve got a few demijohns of mead fermenting for Christmas that might not make it to the 25th

just a fairy's thimble for me, love.

ihavebecomecomfortablynumb · 10/11/2023 23:25

Quite easily, and I can’t really tell I’ve had a drink. I often have a couple of bottles on a weekend evening and I’ve polished off 3 or 4 bottles over the course of a day at the races, although usually champagne at an event like that. I actually prefer cava though. I know I drink too much, I spent a lot of years in a very male dominated organisation with a huge drinking culture and sometimes I do worry about the amount that I can drink without getting drunk or having a hangover. I am trying to cut down.

Rick9plus · 10/11/2023 23:26

Sad to say yes I can, easily. And probably have the other drink you mentioned as well!

Ok so my definition of normal and what you’re saying is normal ie lots of Brits do it, are two different things.
We’ve normalized this level of drinking in our country to the extent that a woman can drink 9/10 units of alcohol and not particularly feel drunk.
Good luck with putting your health first 💐

25 bottles.
wow
averaging 3 bottles plus a week that’s three times what’s recommended.
Thats a lot OP.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 10/11/2023 23:30

Yes, easily. If there’s crisps or peanuts I’m happy to carry on into bottle 2 tbh.
I have reached the point where I give zero fucks on a weekend.

coxesorangepippin · 10/11/2023 23:30

I'd be fairly legless off a full bottle of prosecco

HerbalTeal · 10/11/2023 23:30

Sure ✔️

squidgybits · 10/11/2023 23:33

it will keep a day or two with a teaspoon in the top, spoon side up, I don't know how or why it works but it does. You can also buy tops/lids/stoppers to keep it fresh

DaftyInTheMiddle · 10/11/2023 23:35

Alcohol level wise yea, physically no. The fizz, the heartburn… just not worth it.
