What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

i’m probably showing my age (I’m in my 40s) but am I alone in thinking the lip filler look is just awful?

I see them all over social media and in real life when I’m around people in their 20s. Why? They look so fake.

I know it’s not our fault as women. We’re manipulated into thinking our bodies and faces are never good enough. But lip fillers are so ubiquitous and look so, so bad, I just don’t get it.

@Mrsjayy A lot of people saying they "don't like looking at them", which is quite different from concern imo.

Being 'concerned' for someone who chooses to get lip fillers is a bit patronising- assumes you know best yeah?

BansheeofInisherin · 06/11/2023 13:28

Personally, I think societal expectations of aging women are misogynistic, not those who think lip fillers look awful. It's completely back to front.

Imagine starting or joining in with a thread that bashes women’s appearances. Fucking grim. Have a word with yourselves.

That said, I can’t help but laugh to myself that some of the women making these vile comments are doing so while wearing something from Seasalt or Boden 🤣

So you obviously are on a thread to bash women 🤔

beeswaxinc · 06/11/2023 13:29

I see a lot of fillers where I live and honestly, as much as I want women to be empowered and do what they like with their appearance, it makes me sad as I really don't think they look good.

Like with many things that are beauty trends these days, they might look good in 2 dimensional pictures on instagram with lots of makeup on top and a filter, but in real life they push up the skin outside of the lip and it looks odd and not like having full lips at all.

I was going to get them done when I turned 18 and I am SO glad I didn't. The irony is I already have full lips, but they are more trouty/rosebud type full than wide/glam full.

Love my lips….

I’m also botoxed to the point of no frowning and have my eyelashes curled and dyed.

BTW I also have no breasts or nipples due to breast cancer.

It’s my body and I probably only have a few years before the next cancer hits, I’ll do what I want with it.

If you don’t like it, don’t have it done.

I think you look lovely, but I also don't think you look like you have filler, you just look like you have nice lips. So there probably is a sweet spot that can look good with fillers, if done properly. But nobody will know as it looks natural. And sorry about your cancer, if you wanted duck lips you'd deserve them too! 😊

Couldn't agree more.

Good one, Sherlock 👏

BansheeofInisherin · 06/11/2023 13:31

I suppose at least my Seasalt coat won't impact my health or migrate to the other side of my face. Keeps me dry too.

Nonimai · 06/11/2023 13:31

Your filler looks amazing. Thankyou for the photo.

musickeys · 06/11/2023 13:33

I know someone who has them and I hate to say it but they look like a blow up sex doll.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/11/2023 13:33

MaliciaKeys · 06/11/2023 12:38

I work with predominantly younger women, and most of them have preventative botox, lip filler, eyebrow tattoos/laminated eyebrows, and fake eyelashes. It's a fashion trend, that's all. I probably looked equally ridiculous with my turquoise eyeliner and mascara, ultraglow blusher and skinny eyebrows when I was their age.

At the end of the day you could wipe the turquoise mascara and bronzing blusher off with some cleanser. Injecting chemicals into your body is more permanent (and less creative).

KingsleyBorder · 06/11/2023 13:33

I haven’t read the whole thread but my thoughts are these:

I think they look awful and would never have them, but isn’t that always the way with fashion? (I’m 50). Previous generations hated showing ankles, flapper haircuts, thin brows, thick brows, too much makeup, too little makeup, beauty spots, women in trousers, beehives, mini skirts, men with long hair etc. There are also class differences in terms of what people think looks acceptable.

Most men my age and class also think that lip fillers look awful. I don’t think it is men in general who are forcing women to make themselves look like ducks.

goodgriefsean · 06/11/2023 13:34

AInightingale · 06/11/2023 13:27

Strange how ideas of beauty change - when I was young, to have full lips or a big arse or heavy dark brows was enough to get you taunted. The older a woman is, the deeper and darker the indentation caused above the top lip seems to be, perhaps because of skin thinning naturally with age. Just looks odd and very obvious.

Exactly what I was just thinking, I was teased at school for my eyebrows and full lips and now the girls who did the teasing are women with lip fillers and eyebrow tattoos.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/11/2023 13:35

You aren't alone. They're awful.

I know, hun. Hence my writing, ‘That said.’ It’s a concessive statement often used for comedic value. Geez.

mrlistersgelfbride · 06/11/2023 13:36

All the lip filler photos I've seen on this thread look nice.
Unfortunately all the ones I've seen IRL look fake and very obvious.

Neverseenthatmuchjunkinthetrunkbefore · 06/11/2023 13:36

I find myself in a state of fascinated terror when I see them on TV- on MAFSUK, Laura, Peggy, Ella, new blond girl, and Shona and one of the boys had lip fillers. All young and, pretty enough faces. They all seemed to be doing some funny lucky thing with their tongues, but from the inside out. Like licking their lips but, licking the inside of the lips rather than the lips themselves.

In real life, I become even more fixated when I see them and have to remind myself not to stare. Correcting thin lips because you think they are too thin- fair enough, but to do it to perfectly normal lips- just why?

Cheesecakefiend · 06/11/2023 13:37

It’s a drag queen aesthetic. Unfortunately the women getting the lip fillers don’t seem to realise this.

TheKnittedCharacter · 06/11/2023 13:38

I hate so many modern beauty trends.

Out for dinner the other night, 2 young women came in and sat at a nearby table. They both had hair extensions, orange faces, HD brows, massive fake eyelashes and lip filler. Plus really long fake nails. The result was grotesque.

CasaAmarela · 06/11/2023 13:39

Young women getting preventative botox baffles me more than the fillers. I started getting light botox in my 30s when fine forehead lines began to appear and they've faded completely so I don't understand why women in their early-mid 20s are getting it.

Cheesecakefiend · 06/11/2023 13:40

CanIPetThatDawg · 06/11/2023 12:15

If everyone around you has a certain look it starts to look normal. And aspirational. Because people like to follow trends.

If you go to Beverly Hills you’ll see lots of women (and plenty of men too) with their lifted and tucked and filled faces, that’s their normal. Plonk them in a Swindon town centre and they wouldn’t look so normal.

Spot on. Because it’s a large group of people following this trend, they seem to have lost an objective view of how ridiculous it looks. The look is just normal for them now.

Burnoutwhat · 06/11/2023 13:40

Ivegotsunshineinabag · 06/11/2023 12:04

Mine look amazing - thank you very much.

Same I spend a fortune going to an actual doctor. My aim is for it to absolutely not look like filler. People don't like to believe it on here though as it's much more fun to belive it's all duck lips!

We are slightly obsessed with the awful
lips on MAFS too! And the level of artifice - when Ella takes off her makeup she looks like a completely different person.
