‘XL Bully’ type dog attacked

Whentheboatcomein · 03/11/2023 22:38

My DH and our Ddog were walking tonight and it came running out of the dark, grabbed my dog by the back leg, and dragged him out of his harness and round the road. Thankfully my DH fought it off and lifted our DDog up over his head whilst shouting and neighbours came out to help.

DDog has puncture wounds but otherwise seems ok. DH is a bag of nerves.

A lady came out to inform us it is her sons dog, he found it abandoned and is keeping it in the garden and walking it at night as it “attacks other dogs” as she said.

thank god it wasn’t worse. Thank god my DH acted to lift our dog.

I don’t want this to be a bashing thread, I’m just so shaken and need to get it out.

here’s DDog for those who will ask :)

This is really helpful thank you, I did think it sounded a bit odd that it only mattered if it attacked my H. As otherwise we’d have dogs attacking other dogs left right and centre.

Is the dog warden separate to the police? They said a “beat” officer would call into them at some point to offer the owner advice

Did you report it as an XL Bully? It should be registered if it is. The law requires it to ha e a muzzle on every time it's in a public place.AND most Importantly the Law says it must be leashed in public.

I'd go back to the Police and report it as such. The person has an out if control dog, who may not be registered, not muzzled, not on a lead, it attacked your dog, and it's highly likely NOT REGISTERED. Tell them you will log a compliance with your MP if they don't follow this up. As they are not enforcing the law.

Lighteningstrikes · 11/02/2024 23:59

Report it.
FFS why don’t these thick morons keep them on a lead or put a muzzle on them.

Your dog looks lovely, I hope it’s ok 💐

@TheWorldisGoingMad I want to buy some kind of super strong dog lead type nylon lead that can easily be looped around an attacking dog's neck, even if it is not wearing a collar, ideally by just wrapping it around the dog's throat and then through a strong metal buckle to form a noose so that if one of these monstrosities ever attacks my children I can choke it to death. Do you have any recommendations on the sonething I could buy that would serve this purpose please?

I've had random dogs completely out of control of their owners and off lead in public places attack my children twice already, but fortunately were not these types so could be deterred with a violent kick or two, when the useless owner was of course still 50m away then turns up belatedly claiming they have never been vicious before. With so many of these abominations to nature around now I want to know I have something with me that I could use to kill the thing.

A nylon slip lead has the disadvantage of needing to be looped over both the attacker and innocent victim, as they are like a 'noose'

You need something like a belt that has a free end.

Maybe a properly made stirrup leather? They are strong, long, can be threaded through the buckle and hauled up tight.

If the thing is wearing a collar, maybe a tent peg that can be inserted underneath and twisted

Trouble is {I had a run in with one of these foul things and it's useless owner}
they move like a lumbering hippo and getting a 'belt/stirrup leather' around it's neck may be harder to do that to talk about.

Beating them seems to only make them bite harder from what people say unless you are like this very strong young man who seemed to know where to hit.

They were attacking him.

They won't muzzle the brute ''coz my fur baby won't hurt a fly/is a big soft lump/ is a nanny dog'' {sarcasm}

They won't muzzle the brute ''Coz how can he defend himself''

They won't muzzle the brute as they like the feeling of fear their brute instils in parents and pet dog owners.

My friends dog was mauled by a probable xl bully yesterday. The xl had escaped from its home and killed my friends dog. It has been reported to the police and the dog has been removed. It is in police kennels to verify the breed.

Oh my God. That's horrific.

These things are an abomination.

Americans are saying how we can't defend ourselves with firearms here, or even pepper spray.

These brutes are always escaping.

Vile things. WHY should some arsehole's choice of dog cause grief and suffering to innocent people and dogs?

The ban should have been far stricter and enforceable.

FreeZor · 13/02/2024 02:07

Thanks @oakleaffy . It doesn't sound like there is any way to be safe with these things on the loose, any more than you could if people were walking around with tigers.

The guy in that video did an amazing job. But most people wouldn't have the strength, or being able to get up onto a car before they got mauled, or have a huge piece of wood with them.

All if these fighting type breeds/ mixtures if breeds that contain them should be euthanised, no exceptions or certificates. It's unacceptable for the public to be put at risk like this.

Justfinking · 13/02/2024 02:09

Next time it will be a child. Report it. This dog needs to be put down

MixedCouple · 13/02/2024 04:58

Report it asap. Next time it could be deadly and even worse a child!!!

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 13/02/2024 05:24

The police are completely useless!! Shocking. So sorry that happened to you.
I've heard of a dog repellent spray but not sure if it works.

Polypropylene towing rope might fit the bill. You'll probably need to cut it to length and seal the end to stop it fraying.
Or you could use a length of paracord folded in half, using the fold to make the loop.

Another person injured by an XL Bully, a woman of nearly 80. Unfortunately her sweet little Schnauzer was killed in the attack.
Oh and the woman arrested was also charged with drug offenses, to I would imagine everyone's complete lack of surprise.

I think it is well past time to look at mass euthanasia now, this is untenable.

Woman arrested over suspected double XL Bully attack

Police continue to investigate the attack that took place in Albert Street, South Normanton, on February 4

@SomeCatFromJapan Agree. These lumpen aggressive fighting dogs are owned be the lowest common denominator of dog owners.

Lawless, Amoral and grossly irresponsible.

Woman in pharmacy said the dogs “ Look thick” they have tiny sullen eyes and just don’t look remotely like nice dogs- Because idiots hace bred them to look and be as unpleasant as possible.
