‘XL Bully’ type dog attacked

Whentheboatcomein · 03/11/2023 22:38

My DH and our Ddog were walking tonight and it came running out of the dark, grabbed my dog by the back leg, and dragged him out of his harness and round the road. Thankfully my DH fought it off and lifted our DDog up over his head whilst shouting and neighbours came out to help.

DDog has puncture wounds but otherwise seems ok. DH is a bag of nerves.

A lady came out to inform us it is her sons dog, he found it abandoned and is keeping it in the garden and walking it at night as it “attacks other dogs” as she said.

thank god it wasn’t worse. Thank god my DH acted to lift our dog.

I don’t want this to be a bashing thread, I’m just so shaken and need to get it out.

here’s DDog for those who will ask :)

I would be putting in a court claim out of principle for your vet bill. Feck that " I don't have any money" malarkey.

AbbeyGailsParty · 04/11/2023 18:40

Call the police on 101 as they know it’s a dog that attacks and it wasn’t under control. Also give them ( owners) your vet bill.

ThereIbledit · 04/11/2023 18:51

@BellaAndDave Please could you PM me with the tool? I have a small dog and god forbid if one of them got to him he'd be dead pretty quickly, but I'd damn well like to give him the best shot going.

So would I. Small claims court.

Daisylookslost · 04/11/2023 19:11

Your dog looks so sweet bless him, and your DH is a hero hope your all holding up ok.
I keep hearing more and more about these xl bullies attacking children, adults and other dogs 😩 somethings got to give it’s not fair on society to live in fear of these extremely powerful beasts with a tendency to attack. I fear for my child if u see one out and try to keep them away because I know I couldn't fight it off 😣

Wolfiefan · 04/11/2023 19:21

That response from the police makes no sense. If it’s on the dangerous dog list (which doesn’t just happen) then I don’t think they CAN rehome it.
Your poor dog.

funbags3 · 04/11/2023 19:44

It needs to be put down not rehomed. What are they waiting for?

BMW6 · 04/11/2023 19:52

Those really worried about their own dog being attacked I recommend carrying a cut down wooden broom handle or suitable solid stick same thickness, with a very pointed end..........

Fine and dandy, but if they're on benefits you'll be lucky to get £10pm.

It's terrifying that we should have to discuss how to disarm a dangerous dog (if at all possible).

I was about to say maybe dog walkers need to carry tasers or tranquiliser darts until I realised how ludicrous (and never gonna happen) that would be!

A taser doesn't always work..
This video shows how an attack unfolds..and how futile blows can be..

The man miraculously survives.

Thanks to the heroic rescuer.

BellaAndDave

I remember you posting before. I cried reading about what happened to your precious Lab. I also have Labs and this is my worst nightmare. I don't know how you ever come to terms with something so traumatic. I'm sorry Sad

I'm glad that you killed the fucking thing though.

oakleaffy · 04/11/2023 20:51

Even after the obvious pounding the xl Pit in the video shown had {for a good 5 mins..it walked away after trying to attack several other people, including the older lady...Pic of it here.
The man screaming at the end with the lead isn't the owner- he's a neighbour.

Spoke to the police again.

  1. No Euthanasia - only with a court order of which we can’t get as it didn’t injure my DH
  2. The dog has been added to a list shared between various police forces in the area.
  3. The owner has been provided advice on keeping the garden secure and walking the dog at night
  4. Once the dog is rehoused the owner has to provide the details to the police who will contact the new owners to inform them it is on the dangerous dog list (doubt that will actually happen)
  5. There is no time limit on the owner to get the dog rehoused so he can just say he is going to indefinitely it would seem
  6. as the ban isn’t in place currently there’s nothing he can do in regards to that
  7. The police force here do not have scanners so could not check it was microchipped correctly and don’t per-sue it past the owners word that it is

Basically there is nothing to be done and he gets away scot free. Unless I pay to take him to small claims which is £35 to submit and thankfully our vet bill wasn’t much more than that (less than £100) there’s not really much point in doing that either.

That's outrageous @Whentheboatcomein I'm so sorry you're going through this. The police lie all the time so it might be checking with a vet what they believe the law states about dangerous animals*.

Also if they believe the dog is dangerous why 'walk at night' and not 'never leave the grounds of the house' and also why not 'muzzled'?

*A dog I was once trying to rehabilitate viciously bit the vet. She had bitten many many people by this point in time and was on her last chance with me. She was usually muzzled, I had taken her muzzle off to give her some water and the vet walked so quietly in the door that we both jumped and she bit him. He told me this dog is not coming home with you, I'm reporting it to the police and either you can agree to immediate euthanasia or I'll write a report for the police to use that will give them no choice but to issue a warrant for the dog to be euthanised. Now I assumed that to be true but who knows. I allowed her to be euthanised as she was a hopeless case no two ways about it.

*Many years ago neighbour had his dog confiscated as it was a dangerous breed back then, an American Bull dog ? / unsure. Anyway it hadn't done anything but people complained about it. The police took the dog for six months to an isolation place where it was aggression tested. They gave it back as it was found to be non aggressive.

oakleaffy · 06/11/2023 12:33

These fighting breeds are incredibly dangerous.
All the ''My bully's as soft as, they are nanny's'' {sic} is a load of nonsense.

NO dog was ever used as a ''Nanny''- Find the proof- there is none.

Pit bull types {and XL s have Pit in the mix} were bred for one thing only -fighting.

The damage they can do to children is incalculable.
They are ''Soft as'' ''Wouldn't hurt a fly'' til something flips them.

This is baby JJ. Definitely NSFW.

Too many illegal Pits in the UK according to Dog warden, but this attack took place in USA. Neighbour's Pits got out of the garden and savaged him.

oakleaffy · 06/11/2023 12:36

JJ now, after repeated surgeries.. His scalp is still missing large parts - too graphic to show. {missing teeth- he will never grow adult teeth. His eye is also affected.
Here is his little face now. ''Nanny dogs?'' ...far from it.

A little boy playing in his own garden should be safe from escaped dogs.

daffodilandtulip · 06/11/2023 12:55

We've just had a stand off with a woman with an XL on a lead. We were both on the path and dog flatly refused to move. She had no control over it. It was snarling and growling at us and she could not get it to move. She told us to go past but the length of the lead would not have stopped it from attacking us if we tried. I don't think any rules can really do anything about these dogs.

oakleaffy · 06/11/2023 13:22

@daffodilandtulip Sounds par for the course.
Had it lunged at your well behaved dog or you, the owner would have done nothing to help.
They are so often hopelessly out of control.

SomeCatFromJapan · 06/11/2023 17:07

That is utterly pathetic from the police. Your poor sweet boy, so glad it wasn't worse.
I honestly wish they could all be rounded up and euthanised so that other dogs and their owners could continue to enjoy their lives in peace.

I've read the only way to stop them without a weapon, & help someone is to get something around their neck, even a belt or jacket sleeve and choke them out.

Yes, you are right( I googled)

Without a firearm or bladed article, ( illegal in U.K.) a lead or something held high behind the head and pulled tightly as possible to cut off airway is only way
but much easier said than done (vids of how to do it on You tube)

or if they have a collar to lift or twist that

But we shouldn’t have to be living with dogs capable of biting and mauling so badly that they need choking.

Anna8089 · 07/01/2024 13:04

I dont understand why that isn't done either. Its the only way .

50plusandfabulous · 07/01/2024 13:16

These posts chill my blood , I live in fear of coming across one of these dogs whilst out with my own thankfully I haven’t seen any in the area I live , but it has stopped me going to certain further afield locations where I’d have gone in the past.
I’ve seen so many ‘rehoming/rescue’ posts on social media of people taking these dogs in for the past couple of weeks , photos of them cuddled up to babies and toddlers and lots of ‘well done hun, our Xxx wouldn’t hurt a fly’ . Terrifies me.
My mum told me about a house not far from her where the owners have 8 XLB but only one can be walked as the others are too aggressive . I’ve seen the one that is ‘ok’ and it is horrendous , barking ,snapping and straining at the lead.

oakleaffy · 07/01/2024 14:06

They are a very dog aggressive “Type” and there are numerous videos where these large Pitbull crosses are seen attacking dogs and people- one shows a taxi driver who came to a delivery person’s aid- he was smashing it over the head with a metal wrench with all his strength and it just made the Brute bite harder
They got it off in the end but it was seeking to attack others in the street, including a little old lady.
Choking a dog out is hard as what happens when the choker lets go?

No one needs an aggressive dog like this - It’s completely antisocial.

Wolfiefan · 07/01/2024 21:04

Why have you resurrected a thread from last year? XL bullies are now not allowed out in public without a muzzle or off lead.
