I made a thread last time so thought I'd do another for those of us who are due to receive it. Due to be paid between 31st October and 19th November.

Anyone had theirs yet? I haven't, nobody else I know who is due it has either.

@TroglodytesTroglodytes did the text say that you personally will get it? I got the text but I don't know if that means I'm eligible.

If you received the text it means you're eligible, they don't send it to people who aren't getting it

Can anyone please tell me if I am going to get this payment? I really don't understand the qualifying date criteria. My qualifying period was 12th August to 11th September and I got a payment on 18th August.

Like every other scheme and benefit and discount, I'm not entitled to this. If you're on a low income but don't claim benefits, you are in a terrible position in this country.

Edited

Id rather be working my well paid job than receive the COL. people on benefits struggle and need the payment.
Fed up with the divide and conquer rhetoric on here. 'i work and get nothing, those who dont get everything '. No, they dont. I work with people who really struggle on benefits, lets not do the deserving and undeserving

sanityisamyth · 02/11/2023 07:06

Just had mine paid in - UC in Cardiff.

ladygindiva · 02/11/2023 07:13

Then claim benefits then? How many people are you supporting on one low income?

People seem to think if you work full time you're better off but in many cases you're not.

Run a house on one wage. Have to pay for everything yourself (dentist, prescriptions repairs on house etc)
Just because someone works you're not always better off.

I do run a house on one wage

Beezknees · 02/11/2023 07:51

Many people who receive this payment DO work full time. I work full time. I get UC because I'm a single parent and my wage is low.

OP posts:
Pipistrellus · 02/11/2023 07:52

I pay for everything for two people. Benefits are less than the cost of a child.

So do i...run house iny wage.
I have absolutely no issue with anyone receiving what theyre entitled to benefit wise, nor do i begrudge anyone.

Yep. If I was single with no dependents I could live in a bedsit and my food bill would be half what it is now. As it is, I need 2 bedrooms plus feeding a teenage lad who eats more than me, school uniforms, clothes for a growing kid, school trips, extra curriculars, etc.

There's no denying that it's difficult living as a single person but it's also a lot cheaper.

Yes, me too.

If you have no dependents you get nothing sadly.
Good on you for working full time. :)
But there should be something in place for single people with no dependents who struggle too, yet they get left to the bottom of the pile.

Running your own home isn't cheap on one wage, especially if you need to factor in repairs too. Plus the cost of living (food, running a car which is essential for work etc)

I do run my own home on one wage. The UC I get (£500 a month) goes towards things for my DC. I pay my full rent and bills out of my wages.

Running a house in one wage with children is even harder. Benefits don't cover what children cost so you have less disposable income than before children, not more.

I got mine today.

I work full time like many others on UC.

Employment rate for people on Universal Credit was 41% in June 2022. That does not mean they all work full-time.
I admire those who work full-time and pay tax.

ginandtonicwithlimes · 02/11/2023 08:49

To the lady talking about the work shy Ukrainian. Good luck to that lady because UC don't tolerate people who don't want to work. She won't be able to do it long.
