Do you answer the door to trick or treaters?

I personally don't 😬 though I feel like I should maybe make the effort now I have kids!

When I was younger I remember the streets being really busy and getting an answer at most doors, seems to have changed now the past few years.

Do you answer?

If we put decorations out and have aweets in yes we answer.

If we don't decorate/dont have sweets obviously no as woulfn't have anything to give them.

Either you do halloween or you don't surely?

Gustavo1 · 31/10/2023 19:10

We do! Have our pumpkins put out to show we are ready 🎃

Deargodletitgo · 31/10/2023 19:11

Yup, ever since kids were old enough to want to trick and treat themselves

I would normally but don’t have any sweet sun so they’re out of louck tonight!

BitofaStramash · 31/10/2023 19:13

I've had queues of guisers at the door for the last hour.

Little ones doing a party piece and older ones telling (awful) jokes.

KatBurglar · 31/10/2023 19:13

Of course, until the sweets run out and we bring the pumpkin in.

Pipistrellus · 31/10/2023 19:13

I would but none have knocked. I have pumpkins but no plastic decorations as I refuse to buy tat.

lilyblue5 · 31/10/2023 19:14

Yes my kids have dressed up and waiting 🤣
we put lights up and pumpkins out and they have been waving frantically at anyone passing by…

megletthesecond · 31/10/2023 19:15

Of course. I'm up and down to the door until the sweets run out.
My teens don't care about Halloween anymore though.

TheDandyLion · 31/10/2023 19:15

I was going to ignore but we've not even had a knock.

RedCoffeeCup · 31/10/2023 19:15

We live just outside a village and don't get any - they all go up and down the main road through the village. I would give sweets if anyone did knock.

itsclh · 31/10/2023 19:15

I've only had 2 people knock so far! Thought there would be more as we live on a main road

I always buy something just in case but I’ve been living in this house for about 15 years now and have only ever had 1 or 2 families call in all that time! It’s just not an area with a lot of young families unfortunately.

In our previous house we would have had 10-15 families every year so big contrast!

Redglitter · 31/10/2023 19:17

I like the fact that the 'rule' seems to be if there's no pumpkin or Halloween decorations then you don't go to the door.

I dont get anyone at the door although the street has sounded busy

Loubelle70 · 31/10/2023 19:19

I do. However i live in countryside and haven't had any for years 😔..i love to see kids dressed up..so cute.i always get tub heroes but save em till xmas if no one comes. My pumpkins are out lit up..but no kids around. Pretty sad..id love them to come.

OldTinHat · 31/10/2023 19:20

I'm not decorated and feel sooooo bad - I've just popped out with recycling as a bunch of children went past and they were 'ooooh!' then 'oh'! Sorry people!

Blueemeraldagain · 31/10/2023 19:20

Yeah! Got our decorations and pumpkins out and had about 10 groups so far, mostly adorable small children (under 10) and a few older (but very polite) ones.

Angrycat2768 · 31/10/2023 19:20

Its my DS2's first year not trick or treating. He decided he was too old for it. He has made himself an outfit thiugh to give out sweets. I think he wants to go but he's too embarrassed to say it. DH has taken him for a,stroll ' to see the decorations'! But yes, we answer the door til the sweets run out or until its too late then take the Dec's in.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/10/2023 19:20

We used to, but then one year we didn't get anyone call and got left with the sweets we'd bought specially - sounds like an ok problem but they're really not good for us nowadays,

CarolinaInTheMorning · 31/10/2023 19:21

Yes, indeed. Lights on the porch and pumpkin decorations by the door. But I'm American, and it's a big celebration in these parts.

I wonder if people are only going to the houses that are decorated to the extreme now though? I have pumpkins in my window and only just got my first trick or treaters.

Sparehair · 31/10/2023 19:21

I would if they came but the weather here is foul. Seems not a lot of T&T tonight. Ah well.

Somewhatchallenging · 31/10/2023 19:22

We never get any and haven’t for many years.

NorthernGirlie · 31/10/2023 19:22

We do. Ds has been out with grandparents who said lots of houses had left a bucket of sweets at the door for kids to help themselves this year

Muchtoomuchtodo · 31/10/2023 19:26

We have lights up and pumpkins out and despite the rain we’ve had loads of trick or treaters tonight.

most have been fab except the couple of teens that just stood on the doorstep without saying anything….. I waited then said trick! They looked dumbfounded so I just gave them some sweets!

i’ve only got about a dozen sweets left now so hopefully they’ll be enough.
