Do you answer the door to trick or treaters?

I personally don't 😬 though I feel like I should maybe make the effort now I have kids!

When I was younger I remember the streets being really busy and getting an answer at most doors, seems to have changed now the past few years.

Do you answer?

Protocol in our neighborhood is porch lights on, knock for treats, otherwise skip the house.

Truthfully though, we get so many kids that I have taken to just sitting outside. many of my neighbors do the same. It’s much easier than answering the door every 15 seconds.

That's annoying, mine isn't working. The kitchen and hallway light were both on.

No, we don't do it. But I love that the "rule" of only knocking houses with pumpkins out is stuck to so well now. Gone are the days of feeling uncomfortable with random door knocks all evening.

I do bit we only had one knock tonight.
I love seeing the little kids all dressed up and I had loads of sweets ready.

We do! Until we go out trick or treating ourselves 🎃

Nope! Curtains drawn and lights off in all the rooms at the front of the house.

If parents want their children to eat candy they can buy it themselves. I'd rather spend that couple of quid on a nice latte from my local independent business.

Maybe I'm a misery...but I don't understand the concept of knocking on peoples door and expecting food.

Its fun?. If kids have made effort im all for the magic of it all... bless them. These things they remember. For a few quid, im happy to add to those early memories

Totally agree @Loubelle70 my dc is 11 and she went trick or treating with her younger cousin and a friend - we walked around our local roads for an hour and a half and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Lots of people had gone to great effort with decorating their homes and wearing costumes to give out sweets - there was a great atmosphere with lots of people out and we were so lucky with the weather too!

It's fair enough if you don't want to take part, but I think you're really missing the point with the money comment. I spent more on sweets to give out than my kids received trick or treating, and I'm sure it's similar for most people. It's about the excitement and magic of the night, and the lovely sense of community that comes with whole neighborhoods getting together to create a wonderful experience for the local children. It's brilliant around here, people dress up to open the door and are really kind to the kids. The rule of only knocking if there's pumpkins is well respected.

I absolutely love having trick or treaters round. There's something so wonderful about their little excited faces and their costumes they've gone to effort with, I love being part of a magical night for them and bringing them that joy for the cost of a few sweets. And it's a great way to get to know the neighbors.

Nope.
Because nobody knocks, I've lived in my flat for 12 years and only had someone knock once. In the dark my front door is not obvious, even though it opens onto a well traversed pavement. I don't leave out Halloween decorations because the chances are, some wonderful human being will either nick it or take it somewhere else.
