It's other police officers mainly.
I have a thread running about Bianca Williams. (Can't link on phone abroad). The whole case is disgusting.

DrinkingMyWaterMindingMyBiz · 30/10/2023 13:46

@Mumofteenandtween yes it’s a shame that these things are only noticed when they happen to those in the public eye. If I had a penny for every young black boy I know who had been profiled and searched because the police “smelt cannabis” I could pay my mortgage!

I’m glad this couple didn’t just take it lying down though and these officers are being made an example of. I have little faith that it’ll do much to change the system but even if it just makes one police officer think before he acts for fear of reprimand, that’ll be a smidgen of progress I suppose.

DrinkingMyWaterMindingMyBiz · 30/10/2023 13:48

Just to add - I wouldn’t say they’re being “scapegoated” though. They did something wrong which they assumed they’d get away with (because they usually do), and didn’t. Tough tits really.

PurpleChrayne · 30/10/2023 13:51

It'll be a cold day in hell before I give any money to a copper.

SeventhIdiot · 30/10/2023 14:00

Certain behaviours are expected of the police and their staff, I would suggest funding racist individuals/organisations would fall under a disciplinary process. It would be down to individual forces to identify their staff and take appropriate action.

Oblomov23 · 30/10/2023 14:08

Watch the original video. Of the actual arrest and her crying and pleading to not be separated from her baby in the back seat. See how much sympathy you feel then.

Makes my blood boil.

DrinkingMyWaterMindingMyBiz · 30/10/2023 14:13

@SeventhIdiot The police are a racist organisation, so I can’t see that happening to any significant extent any time soon!

(edited typo)

Mackeroo · 30/10/2023 14:18

No wonder people don't trust the police. They just never change.

itsmylife7 · 30/10/2023 14:57

I'm disgusted by this fundraising.

Absolutely pathetic that people think those police are victims in this.

Yes, absolutely heartbreaking.

Quitelikeit · 30/10/2023 15:07

I haven’t heard about this incident but I’ve looked it up. It did seem like he was driving a bit erratically and it shows he was speeding.

SerendipityJane · 30/10/2023 15:19

Icefoot · 30/10/2023 13:25

I'm no expert, but I don't think tax is due on gifts?

Up to an amount. Otherwise companies would "gift" their wages to employees to avoid tax.

I just hope there aren't any nasty hackers out there who might do something someone might regret. After all 2023 has been open season on public servants personal data that should have been secured properly. Let alone a profit motivated outfit like GoFundMe and it's elk*

*Yes, I know.

Do you have any evidence of this? Everything I have seen is that the erratic driving is because of the word of the police officers. Who we now know to be liars. I tend to go with that liars lie and truthful people tell the truth. So without corroborating evidence I am not willing to believe anything that the liars / police officers say.

Quitelikeit · 30/10/2023 15:38

@Mumofteenandtween yes see the YouTube video above of said driving

DrinkingMyWaterMindingMyBiz · 30/10/2023 15:48

@Quitelikeit what is the point you’re making?

Doyouthinktheyknow · 30/10/2023 15:50

It’s disgusting! I have no sympathy for them. They abused their power and position.

Reugny · 30/10/2023 15:56

@Quitelikeit Remember how the Met Police under a certain person who later became commissioner manipulated the media over Jean Charles de Menezes?

Well this is them at again.

Don't take the warning given by black people, just remember if you are straight white woman you aren't safe from them either.

MaryJanesonabreak · 30/10/2023 16:07

I was thinking about this last night and talking to a friend, in my 43 years of driving, I’ve been pulled over once. It was foggy and one of my lights was out. The policeman asked me to get it fixed when I got home.
My friend lives in London, he said he gets pulled over on average about once a month. Guess who’s white?

StaunchMomma · 30/10/2023 16:17

That video is so hard to watch. You can hear how desperate he is to get home and protect his family.

The officers absolutely say they can smell marijuana to justify their treatment of him.

It's sickening and the scumbags should not be supported by their peers for bringing the MET into disrepute.

I hope this causes enough of a stink that the fund is closed down and monies returned.

Somanycats · 30/10/2023 16:35

This fund raiser has been big news since before the weekend. All that is happening is that more and more is donated. How could it be shut down? Loads of the just giving fund raisers are from grifters. Most of them in fact. And people are entitled to start a fundraiser for someone who has been sacked. Also this is like voting conservative. I've never met anyone who would admit to it but someone must be doing it. Loads of people clearly support these officers and they are indeed appealing. It's quite likely the decision will be reversed anyway.

Reugny · 30/10/2023 17:23

It appears black police officers are being put under pressure to donate to the fund raiser.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/oct/30/black-metropolitan-police-colleagues-donate-fund-sacked-officers

Just remember if you a woman Lady Louise Casey found the Met was guilty of institutional racism, misogyny and homophobia.

minou123 · 30/10/2023 17:39

Part of me thunk that if people are stupid enough to donate to this awful crowd-funding fundraiser page, then that's their stupidity.
From a moral perspective its fucked up, but there's not a lot you can do stop people donating money to things you don't agree with.

But, then I read the Guardian article and maybe someone who has Employment Law knowledge will know better than me.
It looks like Serving Police Officers are using wirk email to send emails to encourage other serving police officers to donate.
Could this be a misconduct issue?

I'm a Civil Servant and we can use our work email for reasonable and acceptable purposes. But it would be a misconduct issue if we were found to use work email for unacceptable reasons, and I wonder if this would be the same for the police?

ssd · 30/10/2023 17:40

You'd need to be an idiot to donate to this

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 30/10/2023 17:45

Yes I saw this. Absolutely depressing.
