What date do they break up for Christmas?

And was half term earlier than normal?

I'm in North Yorkshire and our schools broke up on Friday with half term this coming week.

Halloween is usually in half term so it seems to be the usual time for us but they aren't breaking up for Christmas until Friday 22nd December, which is the latest it's ever been.

Back to school Monday 23rd October
Break up Wednesday 20th December

Dottydoodoo · 29/10/2023 22:18

My DS is back to school tomorrow after half term this week, and he breaks up for Christmas on the 15th of December and back on the 4th of January (East Sussex)

Stardustkid · 29/10/2023 22:35

Half term last week, we break up for Xmas on the 19th Dec. Cornwall.

gotomomo · 29/10/2023 22:49

@ThanksItHasPockets

My kids went to school in Leics - we would head straight to the ferry on the Friday in July they finished and bump into half the class. One year we did a haven place in the U.K. and 3/4 of the families in the kids entertainment were from Leicester (the rest were Scottish!). It was rather handy!!!

Wincher · 29/10/2023 22:56

Back tomorrow, then they break up on 21 Dec. Going to be a long haul! One is back on Monday 8 Jan and the other on Tuesday 9 Jan after an inset day! I'd much rather have more time off before Christmas rather than in cold boring January.

NatalieH2220 · 30/10/2023 05:50

Back tomorrow and break up on the 20th Dec.

Nursemumma92 · 30/10/2023 05:56

South west, just finished half term and school breaks up 19th Dec as a half day!

The 22nd is going to be gutted!

Hmmthatsgoodchicken · 30/10/2023 06:23

Cumbria here.

Have just had a week and a day off for half term. Go back today.
Break up for Xmas on Tuesday 19th December go back on Wednesday 3rd January.

peanutbutter00 · 30/10/2023 06:27

Term dates are not always the same within counties anymore due to academies, so do always check with your schools. Often they are the same but there can be exceptions

Place marking as also in North Yorkshire! Eight week and then seven week half terms are so long. Wondering what other counties are doing.

Lots of other countries don't have half terms I've found out recently. They get Christmas and summer and that's it!

KingofCats · 30/10/2023 06:38

22nd Dec. 8 week term - ugh

Awumminnscotland · 30/10/2023 06:43

We went back October 24th after a week off, break up again the 22nd Dec. 9 week term. Seems normal here I think.

CharlotteBog · 30/10/2023 06:46

BitofaStramash · 29/10/2023 22:16

Back to school Monday 23rd October
Break up Wednesday 20th December

Are you in Scotland or did they split the term into like 6 and 9 weeks per 1/2 term? Or 2 week 1/2 term? Seems uneven otherwise.

Sheraprincessofflower · 30/10/2023 06:55

22nd here which is bloody rubbish. What a long half term it’s going to be, plus the best bit of the Christmas holidays is the bit before Christmas. Who actually wants to be off school in January after the fun? Plus DS always ends term with some awful virus and if he follows his usual trend this time he will be ill for the whole of Christmas. What a shit decision.

Birdie8989 · 30/10/2023 06:56

Leicestershire - kids have already been back a week, and they break up Dec 22nd, so a 9 week half term.

SquigglePigs · 30/10/2023 06:59

TattiePants · 29/10/2023 18:19

My DCs are back tomorrow after a 2 week half term and finish on Thursday 21st.

I'm surprised how many other schools have had a 2 week October half term, I thought we were the only ones. Do you get shorter holidays at other times? We get two extra weeks holiday so DCs only at school for 37 weeks but do longer days.

We've got a 2 week half term - last week and this week. We only get a week and a half at Christmas (break up on 22nd Dec and officially back on the 4th January but the school has put in two inset days so the kids go back on the 8th). We also only have a 5 week summer holiday.

Smurfmurf · 30/10/2023 07:05

Scotland here. We had 2 weeks off from 9th October.

We have an in service day mid November on a Friday.

Christmas is 21st half day until Monday 8th January.

OzziePopPop · 30/10/2023 07:10

Both kids break up 15th December, Bristol and North Somerset. Yes, we’re back today and it feels early, you’re right OP, Halloween is usually in half term (for good reason I think!)

DinosApple · 30/10/2023 07:10

Back to school tomorrow (PD day), break up 20th December.

Last year it was the 16th which gave us a very long, but lovely build up to Christmas, and back to school on the 3rd January which worked well for us.

Quisto · 30/10/2023 07:51

Back to school today, break up December 20th, then go back for Spring term January 4th. Half term was at the usual time, DS has his Birthday in the last week before we break up. We're in Cornwall.

margotrose · 30/10/2023 07:58

Schools here go back today and break up on the 19th.

applebee33 · 30/10/2023 09:01

Ireland here, kids only finished Friday, off for a week so they won't be back to school until Monday 6th November.

Xmas hols 22nd December , I find it too late they should get them at least the 20th Dec
