What date do they break up for Christmas?

And was half term earlier than normal?

I'm in North Yorkshire and our schools broke up on Friday with half term this coming week.

Halloween is usually in half term so it seems to be the usual time for us but they aren't breaking up for Christmas until Friday 22nd December, which is the latest it's ever been.

We break up on the 22nd and go back on Jan 8th.

I’m looking for a week somewhere in January!

4intheCorner · 29/10/2023 19:37

Somerset, back tomorrow and break up 15th December. Back on Jan 4th. Feels really early this year, 10 days of trying to entertain a hyper, over stimulated child 😬

We're in Northumberland and are off this week, break up for Christmas 22nd. It was 23rd last year so this is an improvement!

We've been back for a week already and don't break up until the 22nd. 9 weeks!

Are you Leicestershire? It is absolutely bonkers. It’s well-established that autumn 2 is the hardest half term - one of the busiest, with dark mornings and evenings, and often with the highest levels of seasonal viruses.

Gingerlygreen · 29/10/2023 19:41

Mine broke up Thursday for half term next week then break up 21st Dec - 8th January.

I'd much rather them finish earlier and go back earlier, it doesn't feel much like a Christmas break when they're off for 2 weeks after the actual day.

They're only in then until 9th February as half term is really early next year!

Finishingoff · 29/10/2023 19:41

Same as you OP. We have an 8 week half term to look forward to now. And, for some weird reason, the Xmas holidays are only a week and a half long. I’ve never known it not to be 2 weeks before. There is also a random teacher training day in December too when the school is closed. Why the fuck couldn’t it be added onto the end of the holidays.

Xmasbaby11 · 29/10/2023 19:42

Same here op. So a full 8 weeks! I do think they should make the term shorter somehow - maybe a longer half term!

Neurodiversitydoctor · 29/10/2023 19:42

DD is back tomorrow, off for christmas on the 15th, not back until the 8th of jan.

SwankyPants · 29/10/2023 19:43

Inset day tomorrow. Break up 15th Dec.
Inset day 2nd Jan, back on 3rd.
I'd rather they broke up later and went back later.
Somerset

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/10/2023 19:44

DD1 is just finishing half term and finishes for Christmas on the 15th December.

DD2 had a week and a half for half term (her pre-school is a different area) and finishes on the 20th December. She only does 2 half days so less tiring for her.

SquirmOfEels · 29/10/2023 19:45

Half term was last week, and we break up for Christmas on 21 December

This term always seems dreadfully long, especially as there are no Bank Hol weekends to break it up a bit (I know people might be less inclined to use an autumn Bank Hol as a mini-break, but I still really wish there was one, just to interrupt the feeling of long slog!)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/10/2023 19:45

Kirklees
Broke up on Friday
Finish on 22 Dec, although that day is actually an inset day for DD.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 29/10/2023 19:56

Back tomorrow, break up 22nd. The have lost so much schooling to RAAC so next week is actually the first week the week all be back full time and one will still be being educated off site with a modified timetable and not getting all the subjects so as far as I'm concerned they can make the terms as long as they like so they stand a chance of catching up!

Ebtsaqt · 29/10/2023 19:59

We had rhis week and went away abroad . Was all closing up by friday so wouldnt be open for holidays this week coming.

moonbeammagic · 29/10/2023 20:02

In London, yr8, half term is two weeks - 2nd week starts tomorrow and breaks up on 22nd for Christmas, which feels much too late even though they don't return until 8th January.

HesMyLobster · 29/10/2023 20:08

Half term was 2 weeks ago for us - we went back last Monday.
Break up for Christmas 22nd December so we have a 9 week half term . . It's going to be painful! 😣

Equimum · 29/10/2023 20:16

Mine go back tomorrow (well, Tuesday, but tomorrow is an inset) and finish on 15th. Unfortunately, the school I work for, in a different county, has a two week half term and finishes on 22nd!!!!

Littlebitpsycho · 29/10/2023 20:17

Just finishing half term, break up for Xmas Friday 18th, back to school January 3rd

Littlebitpsycho · 29/10/2023 20:18

Littlebitpsycho · 29/10/2023 20:17

Just finishing half term, break up for Xmas Friday 18th, back to school January 3rd

Typo, obviously meant Friday 15th 😅

Zoologydragon · 29/10/2023 20:19

We broke up Friday before last and have a two week half term so are currently half way. We break up for xmas on 15th Dec but go back on 3rd Jan. (Kent)

BCCoach · 29/10/2023 20:19

Back to school tomorrow, break up on 15th December.

Theokaycokey · 29/10/2023 20:20

Well, I thought that they were back tomorrow, but apparently not!

Dorriethelittlewitch · 29/10/2023 20:21

NE Scotland here. Kids back tomorrow after 2 weeks off and they break up on the 22nd.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 29/10/2023 20:24

Just finished two week half term. Break up 13th dec.

familyissues12345 · 29/10/2023 20:30

15th Dec - a bit rubbish really, would rather go back a bit later in Jan (they are back on the 2nd!)
