What date do they break up for Christmas?

And was half term earlier than normal?

I'm in North Yorkshire and our schools broke up on Friday with half term this coming week.

Halloween is usually in half term so it seems to be the usual time for us but they aren't breaking up for Christmas until Friday 22nd December, which is the latest it's ever been.

Break up Friday 15th Dec

Somerset
Back to school tomorrow and break up on 15th December which feels far too early. Our Christmas performance will be on 30th November!!! Then back on the second for inset.

Whoever put the term dates together this year is an idiot!

BendingSpoons · 29/10/2023 18:00

8 weeks before Christmas (finish 21st) and then 5 weeks before Feb half term. Other places nearby have Christmas hols a week earlier. I wish we did. 8 weeks is a huge slog!

Term starts tomorrow and we break up 15th December. Our LA does the 6-term school year, so tomorrow is Term 2.

Aramist · 29/10/2023 18:01

I mean it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
Just means spring or summer will be shorter than usual.

Tarantella6 · 29/10/2023 18:02

We break up Fri 15th Dec as well which is freakishly early in my opinion. I would much rather struggle through to Wed 19th or something. It's going to be a long 10 days to fill before Christmas.

CissOff · 29/10/2023 18:02

Half term starts tomorrow and they break up on the 22nd. I’d much rather time before Christmas than after 😑

Bristol here. I prefer it early!

MissCalamity · 29/10/2023 18:02

Cheshire here, back to school for both tomorrow, secondary & primary.
They finish on Thursday 21st & Friday 22nd for Christmas.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/10/2023 18:05

My son's school has a 2 week half term (Hmm) and their last school day before Christmas is Friday 22 December.

APurpleSquirrel · 29/10/2023 18:06

Somerset - half term last week. Break up for Christmas on 15th December; go back on 4th Jan as there are 2 INSET Days on 2nd & 3rd.
Seems very early this year, but checked for 2024 & they'll break up on 20th Dec.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 29/10/2023 18:09

3 children are going back tomorrow and half term was last week
DD1 in 6th form college back to school tomorrow ( 15 th December last day of college)
DD2 secondary school back to school tomorrow ( 15th December last day of school)
DS primary school back to school tomorrow ( 15th December last day of school)
we are in Hampshire

falgelednl · 29/10/2023 18:11

Isle of Wight - we are half way through a 2-week half term and finish for Christmas on the 19th. However, we are back on Jan 2nd and go through to July 27th next summer.
personally, as a parent and a teacher, I like this longer break in autumn and am happy with only 5 weeks in the summer. Most schools here do it this way, although we have a few who have a 2-week Whitsun and some only have one week each half term but kept the 6 week summer.

Chasingup · 29/10/2023 18:11

It’s an inset day tomorrow so DS is back on Tuesday and breaks up for Christmas on the 15th of December

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 29/10/2023 18:12

a 3 of them goes back on Wednesday 3rd January

RandomUsernameHere · 29/10/2023 18:13

20th December which I already thought was too late, but can see others are even later! They don't go back until 8th Jan due to inset days. I would much prefer they break up earlier and go back earlier, although realise the dates aren't set around parents' preferences. We are South West.

megletthesecond · 29/10/2023 18:14

Hampshire, state school and college. Break up for Xmas on 15th Dec.

PartnersInCrime · 29/10/2023 18:15

Back tomorrow and break up on 15/12 and back on the 2nd of January

Seriously79 · 29/10/2023 18:17

Back on Tuesday, break up 20th, North Somerset.

TattiePants · 29/10/2023 18:19

My DCs are back tomorrow after a 2 week half term and finish on Thursday 21st.

I'm surprised how many other schools have had a 2 week October half term, I thought we were the only ones. Do you get shorter holidays at other times? We get two extra weeks holiday so DCs only at school for 37 weeks but do longer days.

Susuwatariandkodama · 29/10/2023 18:26

Back tomorrow, break up on the 15th

skyeisthelimit · 29/10/2023 18:28

Half term last week, break up 16 Dec.

MrsTulip · 29/10/2023 18:29

Me (Wigan) and DS (Salford) have both been off this week however at Christmas he finishes on the 15/12 and goes back 4/1 and I don't finish until 22/12 and go back 8/1.

UdderlyPumpkin · 29/10/2023 18:29

Back to school tomorrow and break up on the 20th of December

ThanksItHasPockets · 29/10/2023 18:30

Spare a thought for Leicestershire, who had their half term wb 16 October and are about to go into week two of a nine week half term. Absolute bloody madness. They break up on 9 July and I hope they all have lovely cheap holidays booked already.
