What date do they break up for Christmas?

And was half term earlier than normal?

I'm in North Yorkshire and our schools broke up on Friday with half term this coming week.

Halloween is usually in half term so it seems to be the usual time for us but they aren't breaking up for Christmas until Friday 22nd December, which is the latest it's ever been.

West Yorkshire here - most schools in our LA are off this coming week and they finish for Christmas on the 22nd December. My daughter’s school go back on Monday and finish on 15th December but they have 3 weeks at Christmas (independent) This is the first time we’ve been out of sync with the state schools and it’s been a bit annoying tbh!

I'm in Leeds and Bradford and Wakefield schools were off last week, but Leeds are off next week. We break up on 22nd but friends I know in Bradford break up on the 15th which seems so early!

containsnuts · 29/10/2023 20:38

Been back a week already (scotland) and don't finish until 22nd Dec! Nearly 9 long, dark, cold weeks until the next break. So much happening with festivities, plays, parties - I always dread this term.

Gingerlygreen · 29/10/2023 20:38

I'm quite surprised at the ones who finish on the 15th wishing it was later then back later in January, I'd love mine to be at home longer before than after (mine finish 21st).
It's lovely to have them around for the excitement, watch Christmas films, meet up with friends for Christmassy things etc.
I'll only have them at home for 3 days before the big day then two weeks afterwards when you have the lull and feel deflated that it's over and long to get back to normality.

I agree @Gingerlygreen! I'd love more time in the build up rather than the first week of January off when everything is just miserable!

NoWordForFluffy · 29/10/2023 20:53

Half term is usually the last full week of Oct here (Sefton), so last week's holiday was usual for us.

We break up on 21 Dec.

Totally agree too.

LegendsBeyond · 29/10/2023 21:01

We're back to school tomorrow, they break up for Christmas on the 15th (will be a half day, too) and go back on the 2nd of Jan.

We're in West Sussex.

Same in Hampshire

Totally agree too.

I couldn’t disagree more! Horses for courses, I guess. I personally prefer more time after the big day to wind down rather than extra time in which to wind up. But I do have two children with autism and ADHD.

HangingStars · 29/10/2023 21:07

We had half term last week, one school breaks up Fri 15th and the other breaks up Wed 20th

Figgygal · 29/10/2023 21:10

Going back tomorrow after a week
Break up 15th December back in on 2nd Jan south gloucestershire

Next county over Gloucestershire are off from tomorrow and finish 22nd December

popandchoc · 29/10/2023 21:15

Just finished half term and they break up for Christmas on the 20th Dec.

Furrydogmum · 29/10/2023 21:29

Bradford schools were off last week and generally breaking up on 15th Dec. Leeds off next week and breaking up on 22nd Dec. Lots of people I know have children in education across both authorities for various reasons, and also teachers who work in one but partner or children in the other. It is daft that they don't all do it the same!

Kirklees and Calderdale are off this coming week too

Birmingham. Half term this coming week. Break up 22/12. Past few years it's been a week off before Xmas day then a week after it. Plenty of time to do some nice Xmas things with the kids beforehand, finish off Xmas shopping and food shopping. Going to be a mad rush this year.

LadyPenelope68 · 29/10/2023 21:43

West Yorkshire teacher here. We’ve just finished a stinker on an 8 week term on Friday (way too long!). Half term now but then don’t break up until the 22nd December, latest it’s been in all my years of teaching.

RaspberryJamTart · 29/10/2023 21:46

Just looked and one of mine is off for 3 weeks over Xmas 😡 just had half term

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 29/10/2023 21:48

Ds is at school in Cumbria. Back tomorrow after half term. He breaks up for Christmas on Weds 20th December. I teach in a school in Lancashire and don't break up until 22nd, which is ridiculously late. I'd far rather have more time pre-Christmas than in January!

boysmuminherts · 29/10/2023 21:51

Half term ends today, back to school tomorrow and they break up for Christmas on 15th Dec.

HouseofGods · 29/10/2023 21:51

We're in Scotland and went back last week after 1 week half term and break up on 22nd Dec. But plenty of strike and inset days between now and then 🙄

FeebasAquarium · 29/10/2023 21:58

Half term last week, break up on the 15th and back on the 2nd which feels far too early.

NisekoWhistler · 29/10/2023 21:59

Half term ends 31sr October, break up 22nd December and not back until 8th Jan Shock

CharlotteBog · 29/10/2023 22:03

2 week sodding 1/2 term has just been introduced.
Now they get 14 weeks off a year.
Obviously I still have the same amount of annual leave.
I'm ok - DS2 is 14 so apart from ferrying him about (live rurally) and stocking the fridge he's taking care of himself, but if it had been a few years ago I would have wept (lone parent).

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/10/2023 22:04

Back Tuesday break up 23rd

reluctantbrit · 29/10/2023 22:13

London borough. We all have a two week October half-term now, started on the 16th and back tomorrow, the 30th.

Christmas break - last day is the 21st December and back on the 4th.
