What is the worst-tasting drink you have ever had ?

I've had plenty of ropey glasses of water (chemicals, fluoride, iron) and off milk. But my all time champion is Greene King IPA, absolutely the most foul, disgusting beer I have drunk in 34 years of legal alcohol consumption. The one pint I managed to finish didn't taste remotely of beer, more like weak golden syrup with some unspeakable additives. Many years ago, I had a glass of Merlot which tasted like burning rubber. My guess is that it wasn't off but needed longer in the bottle to mature. Regardless, it was horrible.

My late parents were both fans of pastis drinks such as Pernod and Ouzo. Just the smell was enough to put me off. Eww.

Decades ago, I'm reliably informed that the ubiquitous Watney's Red Barrel was the gold standard for witchpiss in the brewing industry.

This is nasty too...

Another one for Negronis - I was convinced I was going to love it. The person making it warned me that I might not like it, but no I was having one. Bloody awful, almost as bad as chinese herb medicine which I had to drink over the sink due to the gagging.

I agree about Red Bull, Monster and similar energy drinks. Some of my workmates frequently drink them from the can and you can actually smell the stuff as you walk past. Goodness knows what's in them and what they do to your insides.

I once had a coffee made with soya milk because the coffee shop's milk delivery was late. I actually offered to go to the shop down the road and fetch some milk as they were short-staffed but it was refused for some reason. I duly ordered a cappuccino with the least-worst milk alternative and it was undrinkable. I managed one sip. Fortunately the staff very kindly gave me a free-of-charge replacement made with actual milk when the delivery arrived.

@GinJeanie it really is that bad we had it in the 80's quite a bit. In the end I'd start throwing up with a tiny sip, parents used to get very mad but I couldn't help it( they never took it)

I remember you helped yourself from an old Victorian drinking fountain set in a tumble down wall. At the time I was interested in tasting different spa waters!

@GinJeanie Oh Christ above, that’s the stuff of my nightmares and why the hell is the boy smiling, that’s false advertising if ever I saw it. My parents claim now it was purely preventative so I didn’t get worms. I’m waiting for the day my mums that frail to stop me and then I’ll feed her a nice slice of chocolate cake (she hates it)

I find whisky, brandy, scotch repulsive. It just tastes so awful to me I just don't know how anyone can like it.
