What time do you have dinner?

I've always aimed for around 7:30pm, so mostly that time but it can be later.

I've inherited this time from growing up, and assumed its probably quite normal, but I've never really done any kind of survey like I do for other things, hence this thread.

A follow up question is: What time did you have dinner growing up in your parents house?

5pm ish - we eat now

Can't remember what time we ate growing up. Probably similar

TheGirlWhoLived · 24/10/2023 22:32

5pm almost on the dot unless I want my children to attack each other and cry.

parents ate at 6:30 but they don’t have my middle child

SM4713 · 24/10/2023 22:33

Grandparents 6pm on the dot to watch the news
Myself as a child, I don't recall any set time. I 'assume' it was around the same time though
DH and myself in our 40's, no kids. About 6.30ish most nights, but far from rigid. 7:30 tonight. Might be 8 in summer and earlier in winter.

Nothankyou22 · 24/10/2023 22:33

Most days between 5-6 and if out to eat, probably an hour later.
we work dinner around clubs/gym so starving by 5.30 when they finish

Atmytethersend · 24/10/2023 22:48

5pm here too

chosenone · 24/10/2023 22:50

7pm. Can be slightly earlier in the winter but never before 6. Sometimes we're not all home until 5.30.

Growing up it was 5 pm on the dot! As my dad walked in the door. Seems to early to me now.

HelpMebeok · 24/10/2023 22:51

7 but mine are teens now .

prob 5 growing up

Ineedwinenow · 24/10/2023 22:51

Somewhere between 5-6pm and maybe 7-7:30 if we eat out! We are very laid back about meal times though, we can be earlier or later depending on the day of the week and what plans we have

Maddy70 · 24/10/2023 22:52

9 -10 ish. But we don't live in the uk so it's usual to eat later

When we lived in the uk we ate 7.30-8 ish

megletthesecond · 24/10/2023 22:52

We eat at 6pm. I have teens.

We ate about the same time when I was growing up. Tea was usually ready when Willo the Whisp was on TV.

ChicagoBears · 24/10/2023 22:52

We all sit down for a family meal around 6.30. DC have a snack when tbh get in from school to tide them over.

EerilyDecorated · 24/10/2023 22:53

Any time between 5.30 (unusual) and 9.30. It all depends on who's going out when for exercise, sport, book club, meet friends etc (two adults and two older teens). It's rare for all 4 of us to be home all evening.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 24/10/2023 22:54

Growing up it was around 5. Now it’s between 6 and 7.30 depending on what we’re doing (work/ clubs etc).

Feartraining · 24/10/2023 22:55

8pm-ish now. 5.45 growing up. I have no idea why so exact. Was that when newsround finished?

AntonFeckoff · 24/10/2023 22:55

Between 7 - 8.

As a child it was the moment by dad walked in the door, i.e. 5:30pm Monday - Thursday and 5pm on Fridays. If I ate at that time now I'd be snacking all evening.

Growing up it tended to be 6.30-7 when my parents got hole from work (we didn't really do sports etc).

The kids eat about 5pm, they could t wait much longer, especially after school they're starving.
DH would t be home from work by 5pm so we eat after the kids have gone to bed. Maybe 8ish. I'll sit with the kids whilst they eat and have a cuppa and we all eat together around 6ish on weekends.

Joystir59 · 24/10/2023 22:56

Anywhere between 5 and 6.30. We are just two adults late sixties.

FortunataTagnips · 24/10/2023 22:56

Until a couple of weeks ago, DP and were eating around 8.30, once DD was asleep.
But now we’re trying to eat earlier, with DD, so around 5.30. So far, I prefer it.

PoloMintRoll · 24/10/2023 22:57

530-6pm

obje · 24/10/2023 22:59

I think a lot of the time it'll vary depending on whether you have dc or not and their ages.

When Dd was younger 5pm was dinner time, she's now 9 and it's gradually moved to 5.30-6pm by the time she plays with her friends after school does homework etc

However the nights my Dd is at her dads (we're divorced) DP and I won't eat til 7.30

TheChosenTwo · 24/10/2023 23:01

As a kid I remember a microwave being presented to me at around 6, me and my brother ate and then my mum ate later when we were in bed.
Now we eat around 7:30/8 and we all eat together (or at least whoever’s in eats!).

Herbiebanannas · 24/10/2023 23:03

Between 4 and 11:30 depending on what is going on and how we feel.

myrtleWilson · 24/10/2023 23:04

8:30-9:00 if I'm cooking. 7:30/8:00 if DH is cooking

BitOutOfPractice · 24/10/2023 23:04

8pm. Kids left home. Probably 7pm before that.
