Pretty much that
Going to Lanzarote tomorrow and woke up Sunday with sore throat.
Anyway yesterday I had a lots of phlegm and felt like I had a head cold.
Had a test lying around and it was a strong positive.
I've never had covid before but at the minute it feels like a cold.
No temperature and I haven't lost my appetite /don't feel sick or anything just feel like I have a head cold.
I feel guilty having to get on a plane with covid but if I don't go it's a £3000 holiday
I am okay now to go abroad with covid aren't I?

I can't believe we're over 3.5 years on from the start of this and all this nonsense still prevails.

Absolutely!! Everyone I know, even family members going through cancer treatment, are back to pre-covid 'normal'. No tests, no masks. If you have a sniffle, get on with life. If you have a temperature and feel horrific, stay home.

prescribingmum · 24/10/2023 11:13

@allsfairin Congratulations on finishing your chemo

'How will you sleep for the rest of your life not knowing who you infected and whether they lived or died?'

You cannot guilt trip people like this. Covid is not a communicable disease, you cannot expect people to cancel holidays and lose thousands of pounds on the back of a positive test when they feel completely well. If you feel your life is at risk from catching something on a plane, the onus is on you not to fly or adjust what you do.

There are so many other infections that those who are immunosuppressed are at risk of - they cannot be detected by home tests and there is the potential for fellow passengers on a flight to have them and unknowingly spread - influenza, rsv etc. You cannot realistically expect for people not to travel for this.

It's all iii, me me me. It doesn't matter what is currently the law or not it's about being a decent person. You might be fine with it but another person could die from it. I'm a high risk person so if I was to get it this could be me ending up in hospital,I've just had my booster the other day. It's bloody selfish and irresponsible. What if someone in your family caught it from someone and they ended up very ill or died. I'm sure you would change your tune then. And I don't know what cheap insurance you bought but I bought holiday insurance twice over the last couple of months for my daughter and Covid cover was standard. And so were a lot of the other quotes from other companies.

I think you need to re-read your insurance policy. Covid cover means they cover if you are too unwell to travel because you have covid. It does not pay out because you have tested positive but are feeling ok. Covid is treated like any other illness

I went to a nativity play with covid! This was at the height of covid, I had tested as felt unwell, got a negative, wore a mask and later tested again which was positive. Cold symptoms, nothing more.

But, I wore a mask. No one got it (I fessed up on the WhatsApp).

So go, wear a mask and have a good time.

Nice.

Sothisiit · 24/10/2023 08:40

The symptoms of Covid are so mild now and assimilate with a normal cold.
Personally I'd dose up, wear an FPP2 mask to protect others, cleanse frequently and head on out to you holiday.
Obviously just avoid social contact as much as possible.
The world doesn't stop for covid anymore.

Nooo SOME have mild symptoms, not all. Don't throw out crap statements.
certainly weren't mild for me when i had it few months ago.
certainly aren't mild for my friend and her husband who 2 weeks on are still ill with it.
some people are lucky to have mild cold like symptoms, others are not.

Movinghouseatlast · 24/10/2023 11:30

I've got Covid and it ain't mild my friend.

mummymayhem18 · 24/10/2023 11:33

@prescribingmum I clearly did. Hence why I bought it.

@mummymayhem18 then you protect yourself
If your vulnerable don't go anywhere you might come into contact with people if your so neurotic about covid
It's not mine or anybody else's job to change our life because your vulnerable
The law is the law and it states you can go about your normal activities

@navyplaint I'm sorry but what a twatty thing to say. Shows what kind of person you are. What was even the point of posting as you will be going whatever.
And I do protect myself, because of my various health conditions I hardly go out not just because of Covid. Mainly shopping, and appointments etc. I have started wearing a mask again to go shopping etc. I'm not agoraphobic but it's hard for me to plan things.
If I was to catch Covid regardless of how I felt with it I would not go out. I'm not selfish I know it's not just about me. I also remember the height of Covid, watching the news, the updates, lockdowns, clapping for the NHS on my doorstep etc.

EasternStandard · 24/10/2023 11:41

So many will not even know they have Covid these days and still travel

It’s circulating all the time

madeinmanc · 24/10/2023 11:45

Hope you feel 100% better and have a nice holiday 🙂

@navyplaint Let’s just say you hadn’t taken a test because you just thought you had a cold……you wouldn’t have covid.you would just have a cold 😉

So forget you tested and go on your lovely holiday.

Exactly this, what is the point of posting asking what you should do when you're going to do what you want anyway! I don't get it either.🙄

margotrose · 24/10/2023 07:41

Of course you can go.

You'll be flamed for it on here though.

Would you go if you had the flu?
Would you go if you had chicken pox?

If you wouldn’t in either of those cases, why would you go if you have covid?

HavfrueDenizKisi · 24/10/2023 11:56

Some people on this thread really need to get a grip over Covid now.

Yes there are people who catch it and can have serious side affects or are more vulnerable. However, the same can be said for a myriad of many other seemingly run of the mill infectious diseases (chicken pox springs to mind as an example).

It is no longer appropriate for everyone to isolate for Covid or to miss life events, especially if they're feeling ok. We're nearly 4 years into this and the level of paranoia has to stop.

People with severely compromised immune systems have to make cautious decisions anyway. The rest of us have to get on with life.

This is awful though.
It’s not being neurotic. That is such a bad and selfish take.
To literally have no compassion that there are people out there who are having to live a responsible restrictive life - I know children still being shielded since 2020 who have been told that covid will most likely end their lives.
Whats worse is they can’t even access medical care and respite safely because covid is so prevalent in the population - and it’s not seasonal.
Before with the flu they were vaccinated and avoided stuff in peak flu weeks but now it’s year round.

I hope you enjoy your holiday but I don’t understand why you even did a test if you’re not going to act on it in any little way.
And i think it’s really bad you have such a dim view of other people who are just trying to look after their family.

I hope you are never in a situation where your family need any type of care or help, because you’ll find it wanting.

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 12:04

@UnevenBalance I don't have flu or chicken pox
I have mild cold symptoms which is apparently covid
I am able to go to work
I don't have to isolate
So why would I loose a £3000 holiday because i am sneezing

I think you have no ducking clue what ‘protecting yourself’ means.

Im wearing an ffp3 mask, have done so as soon as prices allowed. Wore and ffp2 before that.

I caught covid once and still haven’t recovered from it 1.5 years on.
I caught covid going to a GP appointment with a GP that didn’t believe in wearing a mask and thought it’s good fir the immune system to catch covid (basically a twat but now at least, I know).
I did all I could but still caught covid because no one rise around is doing so, even in places such as surgeries and hospitals.

And all that BECAUSE COVID IS THE AIR AND THEREFORE CANNOT BE TREATED AS A PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ISSUE ONLY.

And if you have followed the covid enquiry, you’d have found out that this is the exact reason why governments have been lobbied by businesses to avoid saying ‘covid is in the air’. Because ut removes responsibility from the individuals (distancing, washing hands etc…) to the society, incl asking hospitals, businesses etc… to clean the air/have HEPA filters etc….

Sp lease, learn about covid p, the politics around it, the research before stating ‘personal responsibility’ again.
Unless you are ofc happy to put the more vulnerable at risk (as well as yourself).

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 12:05

@Youthinkyoureuniqueyourejustastatistic my point is why should I loose out on a £3000 holiday because I realistically have a runny nose and scratchy throat
On the off chance someone might catch it
I mean where does it end

Because covid is a SARS virus and is dangerous, even if you don’t feel it’s dangerous to you.

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 12:08

@UnevenBalance and the guidance is if you are well enough
You continue with your normal activities
I am well enough

Testing isn’t the norm so there will be people travelling with Covid all the time.

That’s another issue.

The point here is that she knows.
And she felt it was important enough to know if it was otherwise she wouldn’t have done a test.

So the question is: would you go around KNOWINGLY spreading a dangerous virus? Would you do the same if you knew that you had chicken pox? I’m pretty sure most people would give up on their £3k hols then. Because you know pregnant women, immunocompromised folks etc…

UnevenBalance · 24/10/2023 12:11

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 12:08

@UnevenBalance and the guidance is if you are well enough

That is actually not true.

eg in the nhs the guidance is to self isolate fir 5 days if you test positive.

Other companies might have told people to go back to work.
But that doesn’t mean it’s safe to do so or a good idea.

Well I guess ethically it’s whether your view £3k as more important than a life.

BUT logically now, you decided to take a test, there’s no law to say you need to isolate in either country.
It would be kind to wear a well fitting FFP3 in the airport and in the plane to reduce the risk you Know About to other people so you don’t ruin their holidays. It’s a small ask for a big reward for someone else.

But what stinks is that you called someone neurotic for having to take steps to isolate themselves. In the unkind nature of your comments to vulnerable people saying they should isolate themselves from the world. Like this is how people treat other still is just sad. Go enjoy your holiday.
